Showing results 176 - 200 of 211 matches December 27, 2003 Link to this post You gotta love that plasma grenade. Cowled_Wolfe created a small, soundless stop-action movie with Halo action figures... he submitted it in WMV format (243K), but you can also grab a QuickTime version (256K) if you'd rather. He says a longer one (3 minutes, maybe), with sound and a better framerate, is in the works. Comments can go in this forum thread. (Louis Wu 10:38:52 UTC)

There would have been more, but a suprising number of authors believe the 750 word minimum is just for show, and can be avoided by padding their stories with garbage. It's there for a reason, folks. (Louis Wu 09:24:09 UTC)
October 23, 2003 Link to this post BG mod available from FilePlanet Framerate writes to say that a mod of Blood Gulch he's created is now available on FilePlanet; it's a hexedited version of the map allowing the LAAG to fire plasma blasts and the pistol to shoot rockets. (At 13.7 mb, one wonders why folks don't just download the 46Kb BG Edit from Clan AKA to make their own...) (Louis Wu 07:31:14 UTC)

A lot of writers are still having trouble with the whole 'series' concept... if anyone can suggest a way to make it clearer in the docs, I'm all ears. (Louis Wu 09:57:24 UTC)
August 10, 2003 Link to this post A homemade MC You folks might remember Chris Bryan. He makes some kickass Halo-related stuff (both in traditional and digital format)... well, he's turned in another impressive tidbit. He's not very happy with this one: I found this little test render here from the animation I did for class. Its really short, and the timing is bad.. I animated this with a 300MHz PC and an old FireGL 1 card that ran Maya at 10-12 FPS on with an empty grid, NO GEOMETRY! With all that negative press, you might think the actual render stinks... you'd be dead wrong. Check it out: 9 seconds long, QT format, 640x480, about 1.3 mb. Wouldn't it be cool to use this system to make a Halo movie? (Louis Wu 14:35:09 UTC)
August 9, 2003 Link to this post When Rockets are Cheap... Okay, so BOLL decided to run with the info he learned yesterday about hacking Halo... and created a 4:42 long look at some of the absurd (but oh-so-cool) things you can do now. Want a LAAG gun that shoots Master Chiefs? You got it. How about rapid-fire rockets? Heck... how about plasma grenades? This has to be seen to be believed. So here's the deal. BOLL's put up three different copies for you to grab; they're all 320x240, and the same length, they just differ in compression: - QuickTime (high framerate, 19.7 mb download)
- DivX (29.8 mb download)
- QuickTime (higher quality, lower framerate, 22.5 mb download)
In addition, I re-encoded the first version to be quite a bit smaller, without much loss of quality; you can grab the re-encoded version (15.7 mb) from two places: To make matters even MORE confusing, BOLL is in the process of uploading the original (1.6 GB) version to our ftp folder; once we've got it, we'll create one or two QuickTime versions. One will be the same filesize as the existing movie (~15-20 mb), but much higher visual quality, the other will be larger (both filesize and screensize). If you only want to download once, you might want to wait until tomorrow. This one is a must-see; even if you're not excited by the hacking scene, it's a hoot to see how much damage you can do when you're standing in a tower of 3 dozen master chiefs and your assault rifle fires frag grenades... Update: Nick yanked his mirror last night. However, Team Ice has tossed it up; you can grab it from this page. (Louis Wu 02:33:25 UTC)
June 18, 2003 Link to this post GamePlasma previews Halo 2 Another Halo 2 Preview posted - this time over at GamePlasma. Some um... interesting suggestions (the machete's back? And release has been pushed up to December 2003?), but mostly a pretty upbeat piece. Thanks to TankRamp, at Battleground: Halo, for the heads-up. (We've added this to our Previews section.) (Louis Wu 15:11:37 UTC)

April 7, 2003 Link to this post Ravine Jumping, Revisited Back in July, we posted a video by Warbow, showing a jump across the broken bridge underground in AotCR, without explosives. He didn't quite make it to the other side (well, he did, but not a place he could actually leave from). synide recently submitted a vid showing this jump... but making it all the way across. Yes, he used a plasma grenade, but he did it with s7yle, and for that, we give him props. One day, we'll even add this to the Tricks section. (It's true - one day we'll reopen that section in all its glory. Hopefully, before Halo 2 is released.) Update: please - stop writing in that Warbow wasn't 'stuck' on that pipe. I'm sorry now for my wording. Read this forum post for more details. Thanks. (Louis Wu 02:13:04 UTC)
January 19, 2003 Link to this post A Halo Koan Now this is a pretty cool glitch. In answer to the old chestnut "If a tree falls in a forest, and nobody's around to hear it, does it make a sound?", SaFruk discovered that on at least one multiplayer map, the answer is 'No.' Toss a couple of plasma grenades on a dead body on the map Chiron, leave the room before they explode... and they'll REMAIN unexploded until someone enters the room. This doesn't seem to work on open levels... but Chiron is a series of unconnected rooms. SaFruk suggests using the glitch to set up proximity mines for your enemies... see what else you can come up with! (Louis Wu 20:53:12 UTC)
December 7, 2002 Link to this post Hey! They're not working! Some fun stuff happening on the Bungie webcam recently... Opie captured a rare sighting of the Bungie Webmaster (you can never see him because he's really a ghost), and Second Hand Plasma and Skeletor bring you news of Lego building. (Louis Wu 05:22:11 UTC)
August 31, 2002 Link to this post Halo National Championship pre-pictures Pictures - not of the HNC itself, but of the reception on Thursday night. Check out the setup! (The actual finals were played with 2 players per console on 36" plasma screens.) We bring you what we can... (Louis Wu 01:19:53 UTC)
August 14, 2002 Link to this post Movie Bandwidth needs... It's happening again. :( Recently we had two movies submitted to us (different submitters) containing interesting gameplay clips put to music. They're very different - one focuses on a Master Chief who can't drive, is in .wmv format, is almost 9 minutes long, and weighs in at 14 megs, the other focuses on what happens when plasma grenades and warthogs get together, is in .mpeg format, is almost 5 minutes long, and weighs in at almost 50 megs - but they have the same problem - they need a home, and neither one meets our Movie Posting Guidelines. The Halo 2 trailer is on the horizon, some other very promising pieces are coming soon, and some of our biggest bandwidth donors are facing troubles of their own... bandwidth is really, really tight. :( If anyone wants to help out with either of the files mentioned above, let us know - we'll send 'em off to you, and post a link (and our grateful thanks). If anyone has a large, unused bandwidth pipe that they are just aching to fill-drop us a line, we'll set up a movie mirror, and thousands of Halo fans will love you. (Louis Wu 16:42:14 UTC)
March 31, 2002 Link to this post A website worth exploring Daniel writes to say that Team 7hr33's website has had a major overhaul - new layout (I like), TONS of new content (much of which I will eventually steal for inclusion here), and one disappointment - a movie, posted yesterday (and filmed on March 11) shows Team 7hr33's exploration of the 'Black Door' on Two Betrayals, mentioned in the recent Gameplay Trick uploaded by Frogblast. (It STILL doesn't predate Legolas' documentation in our forum... but it is the first video showing the door.) Go visit - check out the Maw vids, the frontwards 360 in a Scorpion, and the very slick plasma pistol/grenade combo trick... and everything else around there. These guys have S7yle, with a capital S. (Louis Wu 03:54:00 UTC)
February 26, 2002 Link to this post Did he have that on a string? Several days ago, one of the more impressive feats of mass displacement was demonstrated on our forum. It's now found a home on our Tricks page - a tribute to the power of the plasma grenade (and some simply astounding timing). More to come tomorrow... (Louis Wu 03:11:29 UTC)
February 23, 2002 Link to this post The Lieutenant and his squad...
"Frag out!" Grenades whipped around the corner towards the Covenant squad. We ran out into the secondary corridor, backpedaling as we tried to lay down suppressing fire and retreat simultaneously. Elites roared as they saw us try to escape, lighting up the corridor with white plasma. Roger Lin turns in the first chapter of his 'Resistivity' saga - white-hot battle scenes await you in our Fan Fiction section! (Don't forget to leave him feedback...) (Louis Wu 03:38:20 UTC)
February 15, 2002 Link to this post Plasma grenade in the side pocket Frogblast has posted a short video of a neat trick for taking out Banshees. Major Sack on that lad... (Count Zero 19:29:17 UTC)
January 3, 2002 Link to this post The Marines keep going
Hot pink plasma shot out of the enemy turret guns and flung through space barely missing one the fighter ships. Two more fighter ships appeared around the side of the Covenant War Cruiser and commenced firing at the guns.
Tom Murphy takes a look at life after Halo in the first part of his new Fan Fiction series, 'Pride and Honor'. Check it out in our Fan Fiction section. (Louis Wu 02:10:14 UTC)
October 30, 2001 Link to this post Xbox Odyssey info W00t! Heads-up kudos to Cesar, from TeamXbox - Xbox.com has put up an information page about the Xbox Odyssey (which TeamXbox mentioned last week) - one of the photos shows an ENORMOUS plasma screen, running Halo... if you live in (or near) San Fransisco, LA, San Diego, or Phoenix, GET YOURSELF INTO THIS THING. (It's coming to 40 cities - this is just the first leg.) (Louis Wu 10:44:11 UTC)
