(The trailer was sent in a few days ago - I apologize, it got lost in the shuffle.) Heavily inspired by Red vs Blue, it's the story of a team of Spartans on Coagulation, living and working under the threat of Covenant encroachment. Audio can be a little hard to hear at times. HALOChat has provided a mirror for episode 1, in case bandwidth runs out. Both vids are WMP9 format - the trailer is 14 mb, ep 1 is 22.5. (Louis Wu 13:19:38 UTC)
February 16, 2005 Link to this post Two movie groups find a home That Weasel writes to let the Halo world know about a couple of new Halo machinima projects that now live as subsites on the That Weasel Television website. Team Destruction can be found there (their trailer vid was mentioned a couple of weeks ago, but now it has a proper home, and multiple formats), as can Masters of Devastation. (The latter group doesn't seem to be doing machinima so much as Halo PC tricking.) See what you can find! (Louis Wu 22:50:08 UTC)
February 15, 2005 Link to this post Project ODST Teaser Project ODST, a live-action fan film, has released a teaser trailer - the forum post says 'keep in mind this is not a representation of the final product', so I'm not sure what it is... but you can watch it. Currently only available via BitTorrent, you can visit this page to grab the torrent. 12.2 mb, WMP9 format. (Louis Wu 13:47:58 UTC)
February 13, 2005 Link to this post Sounding Different A bit ago, Eric Oxenberg submitted a movie he'd made for an audio engineering class in college. It's something a little different; it's footage from the E3 2003 trailer, with all new sound effects, music, and dialogue. It contains over 100 SFX queues. It's not for everyone (the video hasn't been altered at all, it's just new sound), but it's well-done and fun enough that I thought we'd offer a copy. It's available in QuickTime (13.9 mb) and WMP9 (14.2 mb) formats. Check it out! (Louis Wu 15:57:28 UTC)
February 10, 2005 Link to this post The Codex - Episode 1 The Codex, a new machinima series that released a trailer about a week ago, has made good on its promise to release Episode One on February 9th. Go visit for the new episode (QuickTime now, WMP9 and DivX coming very soon), as well as lots of new updated content.
We'll be posting mirrors if they decide they need them; this one's quite nicely done. (Louis Wu 01:41:37 UTC)
February 3, 2005 Link to this post More Movie Stuff Man... you can't take a night off around here, things just move too fast. Okay, while I was sleeping (and other stuff), we heard: - Ripp0n's Montage got another pair of direct download mirrors; a bunch of you have gotten it via BitTorrent, but for those who can't, HALOChat has put it up via HTTP, and there's another copy at That Weasel Television. Check yesterday's news if you don't know what this is about.
- Sharkface217 created a Halo PC Tribute Video, and released it at the Gamers Alliance. I'm not sure I get it, completely... but there it is. 31.5 mb, WMP9 format. (For me, personally... if I were a new HaloPC player and this was the first thing I saw... I'd probably pick a different game.)
- Devin Olsen released his own Halo 2 Montage vid - just under 19 mb, WMP9 format. Lots of Killtaculars and above. (Some good footage showing the potency of the plasma pistol/magnum combination... I love the Colossus 'attack while in the air, kill before you land' kill.) Update: this one, too, is having trouble - Devin asks for mirrors. If you can help him out, drop him a line! Update 2: Yayap to the rescue!
- Craven47 posted a short (43 second) 'Dance Movie' (3 Spartans jumping around on Lockout) on Putfile. Just over 5 mb, WMP9 format.
- That Weasel, always around to help, has mirrored a whole bunch of OTHER recent movies, besides Ripp0n's - The Codex Trailer, Vehicular Pwnage, and the Sleeping player are all there now.
I'm sure there are/will be more over the course of the day - but I'll make a new post later. And the bandwidth just keeps going up, up, up, up... (none of this is ours, though.) (Louis Wu 14:08:41 UTC)
February 2, 2005 Link to this post Mop-Up Movie Action We mentioned a couple of movies yesterday that have updates in availability... lessee. DementedPuppy has posted a QuickTime version of Vehicular Pwnage; it's about 17 mb. (The WMP9 version is, of course, still available.) And HALOChat has put up a copy of the DivX version of the Codex Trailer - it's always good to have extra help with hosting! If you missed either of these yesterday, go grab 'em now. (Louis Wu 11:21:44 UTC)
February 1, 2005 Link to this post The Codex - up again Last night, we posted links to a trailer for The Codex, a new machinima production. Their server melted. They moved to a new host, and the links are back online, with smaller downloads (which means more people can view them)... and to make sure it doesn't happen again, we've tossed up mirrors on mythica.org and files.bungie.org. Go grab 'em! (Louis Wu 21:28:53 UTC)
February 1, 2005 Link to this post The Codex - coming soon New video to watch - a preview of things to come. The project is called 'The Codex', and the trailer is a bit over 3 minutes of tight camera work, beautiful edits, and great coordination with the soundtrack. Hard to tell yet how the plot will hold up... but the trailer certainly leaves you wanting more! Visit their Videos page for download links for QuickTime and DivX formats. A thread was started up on our forum, as well... be sure to leave 'em some feedback! Update: As many, many of you have noticed, the Codex website is offline for going over their bandwidth limits. I'll see what we can do about getting local versions up here to help 'em out. (Louis Wu 02:15:43 UTC)
January 22, 2005 Link to this post One Bag for Two Dennis Powers writes to point out a new machinima series he's begun - it's called 'The Halo CE Chronicles', and follows a "hapless Spartan stationed to a
distant Outpost Station and his relationship with the station's AI." Currently, there are two movies to see - a short trailer, and a 3:49 Episiode 1. The movies are in Flash format, so all you'll need to see them is a browser. Powers does all the voices to date. Check it out! (Louis Wu 21:07:33 UTC)
January 20, 2005 Link to this post I see dead people. Joshua Rennert posted a note on our forum about a sequel he and the Tricking IT crew are working on; working title is Beach of the Dead 2, though that won't be the release title. The trailer, made by ipushmycar, is short (48 seconds) but pretty sweet; high and low resolutin WMP9 links are in the original forum posts, and we've added high (5.3 mb) and low (2.2 mb) resolution QuickTime versions, as well. This looks like something to watch for! (Louis Wu 18:32:23 UTC)
January 16, 2005 Link to this post Bob the Engineer Yaksha posted a small (3.1 mb) film on our forum, a trailer for ano upcoming machinima called 'Bob the Engineer'. It's 1:28 long, in WMP9 format. I'm not sure how long his bandwidth will hold out, so we've provided mirrors - for the original file and a QuickTime version (3.9 mb). (Louis Wu 16:24:45 UTC)
January 7, 2005 Link to this post Halo 2 Trailer Termi, of Shaolin Productions, created a Halo 2 trailer recently - cutscene footage and added text and effects. The end product is pretty slick. You can grab it, in its original DivX format, on the Shaolin Productions website (there's some description and a few screen grabs, as well). You can also get it from files2.bungie.org or mythica.org (in the original, 692x428 form factor, 35 mb) or a smaller version (460x286, 9.2 mb bungie.org or mythica.org). And finally, it's available in QuickTime, as well - same screensizes: large (31.3 mb, mythica.org | bungie.org) and small (9 mb, mythica.org | bungie.org). Whew! (Louis Wu 16:32:57 UTC)
January 4, 2005 Link to this post Halo 2 The Movie WINBIG24 sent word about a trailer for download over at HaloMods. It was created by ShadowX, and it uses our Cutscene Library (and a War of the Worlds trailer) to paint a grim picture of invasion. 5.9 mb, in WMP9 format. (Might have been better to keep the widescreen aspect of the originals, though...) Update: Seems ShadowX posted a link on our own forum - silly me for not checking first. (Louis Wu 14:50:56 UTC)
January 2, 2005 Link to this post Halo2: Love it Live LD2k posted a pretty nice video on our forum yesterday - I found the rapidshare link in the post to be annoying, so I've mirrored a copy for him. 6.7 mb, QuickTime .mp4 format. Heroic gameplay, set to Troy's trailer music. Nice cuts. (Louis Wu 15:41:13 UTC)
December 29, 2004 Link to this post DLX 2004 Trailer Awards DLX (Gamespot's download site) gave out awards for the Best Trailer of 2004 - Halo 2 was nominated, but Grand Theft Auto beat it out. Thanks, TricKy. Update: Halo 2 (well, the Plantronics Halo 2 headset, anyway) was also up for a pair of awards in the Gamespot Hardware Awards... but lost those, too. Thanks again, TricKy. (Louis Wu 19:08:58 UTC)
December 21, 2004 Link to this post N00bs Gone Wild The Flaming Arabs clan has put together a trailer for an upcoming movie called 'N00bs Gone Wild' - a look at teamkillers. You can grab it off their website; 1:51 long, 9.3 mb, WMP9 format. (Louis Wu 14:03:23 UTC)
December 14, 2004 Link to this post Retox Another vid - this one by Hogmasta. It's called Retox, and his forum post states that it's his last Halo vid. It's available as streaming QT and streaming WMV - the downloadable links either don't work or point to an Enter the Matrix vid. Pretty standard stuff, overall... but feedback on the forum is quite positive, so maybe I'm getting jaded. (Louis Wu 02:22:01 UTC)
November 26, 2004 Link to this post Halo 2: The Movie Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving... or if you're outside the US, you did something else involving far too much food. We've just said goodbye to our guests, and I'm sitting down to take a look through today's mail. We've got a very nice new film from Jon Oakes - he melded video footage from Halo 2 with audio material from the Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow trailer, to make a pretty slick little piece. 5.6 mb, QuickTime format, kindly hosted by KP on boomerica. Go watch, as you digest! (Louis Wu 00:01:03 UTC)
October 29, 2004 Link to this post Eye Candy New video, straight from Bungie - the new trailer (both long and short versions), in English, French, German, and Italian... last summer's movie teaser... and the bonus of bonuses, a multiplayer featurette yanked off the Making of Halo DVD (high and low res, 88 or 44 mb, WMP9 format). Go watch the fantastic fllmmaking of Jim McQuillan and Film Oasis as they turn Bungie opinion and chatter into a work of art. Yeehaw! (While we're mentioning the launch ad, we should mention that the German version is also available in DivX format from HaloUniverse.) What are you waiting for? (Mac users - we'll do our best to get a QT version out in the next day or so. This came as a total surprise, though, so it's not ready yet.) (Louis Wu 20:08:15 UTC)
October 23, 2004 Link to this post Lonely Hunter - Part 2, finally Apologies for the delay - I promised last week that we'd continue releasing segments of 'My Heart is a Lonely Hunter' every few days, and it's been almost a week. I realize that more than 1500 of you have grabbed the entire movie via BitTorrent in the last couple of days... but many are still waiting patiently for the smaller pieces. You can grab Part 2 either on mythica.org or files.bungie.org - Part 3 will follow soon. (Part 1, if you missed it and can't handle the BitTorrent version, can be grabbed at the links in this news post.) [I actually wrote this - and posted it - about 12 hours ago... but somehow, I managed to forget to actually FINISH the posting process. Sorry to everyone involved.] Update: the DJ writes to say that all released pieces so far (the trailer, part 1, part 2, and the full 30-minute movie) can be found on Halo Impulse, as well. Thanks! (Louis Wu 12:08:08 UTC)
October 22, 2004 Link to this post Movies Two new video clips for you today, around the web; Xbox Central is hosting an MTV news clip showing the 'Halo 2 Council' (celebrities getting special Halo 2 goodies) and the Pelican case'd Xbox/screen that's among their loot: 8 mb, WMP9 format (thanks, Ben Bayes), and there's a higher-res version of the leaked EB Games commercial we saw a couple of weeks ago; unfortunately, the only place it's currently available is on a site hosting pirated information, so we're not going to pass out the URL. (It's also in French.) Thanks, Hikaru-119. Update: Gah, I should have passed on this news item altogether. Warbow points out that the MTV piece is no longer available, either. Sorry. (Louis Wu 14:41:19 UTC)
October 16, 2004 Link to this post The Heart is a Lonely Hunter Every once in a while, a Halo movie comes along that's head and shoulders above almost everything else out there. Great filmography, awesome sound, fantastic voice acting... if you look back on all of the Halo machinima creations that have been released (we're not talking music videos now, or gameplay presentations), there are only a couple that are up there in a class that can stand alone, be of interest OUTSIDE the Halo community. (Red vs Blue is probably the most prominent example.) Now (in my opinion), there's a new one. 'The Heart is a Lonely Hunter' is a 30-minute movie which has it all; great acting, great storyline, great cinematography, great music, great effects. Humor and pathos, all rolled into a Halo-driven package. 30 minutes is WAY too much to release on the web in this format, so they've broken it up into 6 episodes. The first one (as well as a 1:14-long, 7.5 mb trailer) is available on the HiaLH website; It's 2:51 long, 20 mb, in QuickTime format. To ease the load on their server, we've mirrored this episode at mythica.org (and the trailer, too). Episode 2 will be released sometime early next week. Our forum is still down, so comments should be sent directly to the team (check their Contact page for email addresses) or to us - we'll pass them along. Update: As many of you have noticed, the HiaLH website is offline right now, for exceeding their bandwidth. We're tossing up another mirror of both of these files; you can find the trailer and Part 1 at files.bungie.org. We're talking about BitTorrenting the entire thing, but give us some time to work it out. (Louis Wu 15:18:51 UTC)
October 1, 2004 Link to this post The Strangerhood Recently, a new website put together by the Red vs Blue team went live - The Strangerhood is a new machinima series that uses the Sims 2 engine for storymaking. This is totally unrelated to Halo - except that a team that came together to make Halo-based movies originally is making this. An astounding number of folks wrote to tell us about it, so rather than let this flood CONTINUE, I figure we'll actually mention it. There are a number of articles about the new series prominently linked on their front page, as well as an intro trailer that can be downloaded. It's really well done, and if you enjoy machinima, you should check it out - but please, don't send us news about this, because even though we love the guys involved, it's not Halo-related. Enjoy! (Louis Wu 08:29:12 UTC)
August 25, 2004 Link to this post Attack of the Giant Grunt This was released yesterday, but would have been completely buried... timboh56 created a trailer for a stop-motion picture he's putting together, 'Attack of the Giant Grunt'. It's short - but it's quite good, so we've mirrored both the original WMP9 version (721K) and a new QuickTime version (812K), so that you don't have to hammer his personal website. C'mon... it's tiny. Grab it. (Louis Wu 14:13:16 UTC)
