November 18, 2007 Link to this post New material from Elnea So Elnea's been making Halo art, movies, music, and comics for a while now... but she has this weird aversion to bandwidth help. She creates stuff that's WAY above the mainstream, quality-wise... but she doesn't want to be a burden, or something. Last night, though, she crossed a line. She posted remastered versions of five pieces of music... on MySpace. Yes, Tai Chi Knees now has a MySpace page. Okay, fine. Everyone who can tolerate that site is welcome to go explore her offerings there... but for those of you who are like me, who would love to hear these newly-produced (and amazingly polished) pieces WITHOUT having to visit MySpace - we're mirroring all five. Phooey to her, I say. She's right - the remixes are amazing. (Compare old to new, if you're not sure.) 'More Than Just a Voice' really gets under my skin, and brings out - in a serious way - the relationship between Master Chief and Cortana that's usually discussed with sniggers. This is good stuff. And well worth spending bandwidth on. (Louis Wu 16:33:54 UTC)
November 17, 2007 Link to this post Halo Escape Teaser

November 17, 2007 Link to this post Prelude
Jamie98s is back, with a short project - he says "it's kind of a trailer but not really". Filmed in Halo 2, with some interesting mods and lots of post-production work. Sad... but powerful. About 20 mb, in either WMP9 or QuickTime formats... go watch! (Louis Wu 12:35:56 UTC)

October 27, 2007 Link to this post We're not very good at this promotion thing. We totally spaced on letting you know about this ahead of time... but Mig and I were on Spike TV's Game Head last night. It SHOULD be on GameTrailers later today, and you can watch it again on Spike TV next Friday night (well, Saturday morning) at 1 am if you'd like. (It's the Simpsons Game episode.) It was a cool little (about a minute long) snippet plugging HBO and the Halo community - go find it! Update: available on GameTrailers here. (Louis Wu 13:49:23 UTC)

October 16, 2007 Link to this post Oregon Trail, 2552 Style.
AnTi PRO let us know that ArmTheFlag.com is in the process of creating the first episode of a Halo 3 machinima project titled ' Oregon Trail: Pioneering Evolved'. They released a trailer a month ago, using the Halo 2 engine... but didn't want to spread the news too widely until the Halo 3-based first episode was almost finished. They're mostly done with filming, and about to start on voices... so it's time to go watch the trailer. You can stream it at YouTube, or download it from Mythica. And keep your eyes peeled for Episode 1! (Louis Wu 20:40:56 UTC)
October 15, 2007 Link to this post That must have been fun.

ScrewAttack posted a video showing the 10 best games available this holiday - that aren't Halo 3. (Halo 3: so overmarketed, you can even use it to sell OTHER stuff.) Thanks, Linkmaxwell. (Louis Wu 17:29:56 UTC)

October 9, 2007 Link to this post Dust to Dust Trailer
Yesterday, siliconmaster482 stopped by our forum to point out a machinima project being built in 3ds max - it's called Dust to Dust, and they've released a trailer. I liked it; it's quite simple, but the work is quite good. We're helping with hosting - there are three WMP9 versions listed in his forum post, and we're mirroring those... plus we've got three corresponding QuickTime versions. High Res (1024x720): WMP9 (32.3 mb) | QuickTime (27.8 mb) Medium Res (640x480): WMP9 (11.6 mb) | QuickTime (10.8 mb) Low Res (320x240): WMP9 (4.3 mb) | QuickTime (4.4 mb) Go watch, and see if you agree that this project has serious potential! They're looking for folks who'd like to help build sets in 3ds max, as well as anyone able to render the final films; these are their two biggest bottlenecks at the moment. siliconmaster482's email is in the forum post, if you'd like to join the team.

September 23, 2007 Link to this post Halo 3 Reviewed Alright, the embargo is up and what was considered an onslaught of news in the past week will appear a steady trickle. Gametrailers has their video review, giving it a 9.8/10. Team Xbox has also posted their review, giving it a 9.7/10. Thanks to Zeouterlimits for both of those. Gamespot has also posted their review (with video), giving it a 9.5/10. IGN's review is up as well, they've marked it a 9.5/10. At this point the line between spoiler and common knowledge is becoming blurred. If you're worried about them, just take solace in the high numbers and don't read them until after you've got your hands on a copy. Update: 1up has also posted their review, giving it a 10/10 (both Gamespot and 1up don't rank by tenths of a point, only by halves, in case you were wondering). (KP 19:06:35 UTC)
September 22, 2007 Link to this post Enemy Weapon Lots and lots of people noticed the new Believe trailer, titled 'Enemy Weapon', which was released last night. You can find a high-res version of it at halo.msn.com (thanks, The Cancers) - Silverlight is required. If you want to pass on Silverlight, it's also available at Yahoo Games (thanks, mhuber33) and YouTube (thanks, S043). Haven't noticed a downloadable version yet. This one has a pair of UNSC vets discussing the weapons they used - and the weapons they fought against. Great piece. Update: DHalo grabbed the HD version off the MSN site, and uploaded it to Mythica; you now have a downloadable version if you want one.

September 22, 2007 Link to this post A different take on Halo Wars
And now for something quite different - YouTube user wronginc hacked up the footage from the Halo Wars trailer and put his own music to it. Hard rock - but it fits nicely. Take a look!

September 20, 2007 Link to this post Video Walkthrough of Construct (unauthorized) Hmm... this is the sort of thing I'm not sure if I should be mentioning. Someone has created a reasonably high-quality film of a walkthrough, in Forge, of the multiplayer level Bungie announced yesterday, Construct. There are no spoilers in the film - it's just a guy running around the map, no voiceover at all - and it shows off the gorgeous graphics of the level to nice effect... but it IS content that hasn't been released by Bungie yet (though they HAVE announced it, and released screenshots). It's up to you whether you visit or not; it's a really pretty level, but you'll get to run around it all by yourself in just 4 days. If you want to see it now, visit GameTrailers. I found this at Planet Halo. Update: Brodingo points out that there are runthroughs of The Pit and Isolation, as well. (While the multiplayer environments match locations in the Campaign, these cannot be said to contain spoilers, because there is no context for what you're seeing. No part of the STORY is spoiled by seeing the environment, in these cases. That said - these were created by people who got their hands on the game before they were supposed to, and have been uploaded without Bungie's approval; if you want Bungie to decide what you see, and don't see, before launch, don't visit these links.) September 15, 2007 Link to this post Floaty Silence 3 - Teaser 2
Hellhawk has created a second teaser for Floaty Silence 3 - you can grab copies in WMP9 format (1.5 mb) or QuickTime format (1.9 mb).

September 13, 2007 Link to this post Sensationalism at its worst
Not totally sure why this is news - but it's shown up on both SPOnG (thanks again, Narc, this time in #hbo) and CVG; a couple of Sony developers were chatting about the Museum ad and decided to post the chat online. And yes, one of them says a bad word about Halo. (What's more interesting than the bad word is the reaction to the trailer. THAT'S worth reading - it's a pretty thoughtful exchange.)
