LE availability researched
When the Limited Edition box set was originally announced, Halo forums across the net were flooded with folks outside the US worrying anxiously about whether it would be available internationally, and whether it would be available in PAL format. There's still been no official confirmation - but some investigation by fans would suggest that non-US residents have nothing to worry about. Mogwong found the LE announcement on the Xbox.com Australian site, with a clear 'Limited Edition Halo 2 to be Available for Pre-Order' headline at the top (something that would have gotten pulled from the original before placing it on the AU site if it WEREN'T to be available), and Ciarán found a pre-order page at Gameseek (and another at Alcom Electronics in Switzerland) offering a PAL version of the LE box for preorder. Combined, it looks like the Limited edition will be available worldwide, and in both formats! (Remember, it's pre-order only; once Halo 2 is released, you probably won't be able to find it.) E3 Demo - best free option yet
Gamespy has posted a very nice quality version of the E3 demo - Direct Feed, QuickTime, 480x360, 227 mb (zipped) It includes conference footage (Halo2-related) from before and after the actual demo, including the announcer's revelation that the release date is tattooed on his arm. If that's not enough, there's an even HIGHER quality version - 337 mb zipped, 640x480 QT, also free. As of this moment, there is NO wait on the Fileplanet public servers. (That will likely last about 5 minutes, though, so hurry.) (Louis Wu 12:37:16 UTC)

Halo Custom Edition - Available
At 9:50 pm Central last night, Cysco announced that Halo Custom Edition and the Halo Editing Kit were being released sooner than expected. There is a thread containing a list of mirrors for both items (they're BIG), also on the Gearbox forums. First word here, both on our forum and via email, seems to be Munkeegutz - thanks! Go grab 'em! (Louis Wu 14:10:03 UTC)

Halo Custom Edition
In tandem with the HEK announcement, Cysco, over at the Gearbox forums, has changed the HaloPC forums to Halo Custom Edition forums. What is Halo Custom Edition? Glad you asked - Cysco answers some basic questions in this thread. It's a completely unsupported version of Halo, available free to all HaloPC owners, that introduces lots of new features - including the ability to play user-created (think HEK) content. THIS is what we've been waiting for; THIS is why it wasn't as simple as 'dump that HEK out there'. There will be lots more info in the next few days about this stuff... but for now, you can discuss on our forum, on Gearbox's forum, or at Bungie.net - it's the topic of the moment. (Thanks to Reppyboyo and L337Mondo for the first notices.) (Louis Wu 21:13:57 UTC)

Seropian Talks Business
There's been some buzz in the Bungie community this morning about the announcement of Wideload, Alex Seropian's new gaming company. We had a chance to chat with Alex this morning about where Wideload is, and where it might be going... if the idea of a new game based on the Halo engine, built by old-school Bungie folks, gets you excited, go check this out! Hearty thanks to both Alex and Miguel Chavez for their time (and Mig's great questions!). (Louis Wu 16:36:27 UTC)

RvB up for a Webby
Wow... Red vs Blue has been nominated for a 2004 Webby Award in Humor - winners will be announced on May 12. This was pointed out on our forum, by iBob... but I didn't notice it until Narcogen posted it on Rampancy.net. Looks like I'm getting behind on my forum reading... (Louis Wu 14:24:50 UTC)

Xbox.com back up
Just a quick heads-up; if you missed the interviews with Brian Jarrard and Tom Gioconda over at Xbox.com yesterday (because I was an idiot and announced them moments before they went offline for the Tsunami update), Xbox.com is back up, and the interviews are readable again. Lethal Rage 3
Pico has submitted Lethal Rage 3, a massive (10:11 long, 35.7 mb) tale of heroism and courage, of finding the strength within to carry on when all hope is lost... and, well, to act like an idiot when you win. Cinematography is awesome, storyline is great, and there are some very nice stunts. VERY nice. Watch this one. (And mirror it for us, if you've got the bandwidth - it's gonna be popular.) It's currently available in QuickTime format from Mythica.org and files.bungie.org, but if you want to put up a copy, send us a link, and we'll announce it. A DivX version will be coming at some point. Update: DOH! Pico had asked me to link to a thread he started last week about this, for discussion. I forgot. Luckily, he started a new one today; comments can go here. Update 2: Another couple of mirrors - enough to warrant a mirror page. We'll add more as they come in. Thanks, folks! Guest Stars.
We have a special Guest One One Se7en strip for you today; it was created by Stuntmutt himself, and it ushers in a new age of Guest Strips. By order of the Grand High Poobah (that would be Stuntmutt), there will no longer be any guest strips posted during the week. One One Se7en will come out 3 days a week, as it did when it started - all strips will be his. Once per month, all submitted strips will be added, via the Archive mechanism. There are other (relatively large) changes in the works... but no more on that until we're ready to announce them. In the meantime, enjoy this tribute to Guest Strippers everywhere from the man who inspired them. (Louis Wu 16:08:17 UTC)

Happy Birthday, Tina!
A bunch of new artwork from Tina Leyk today; both her Artwork page and her Fur-Lo comic page have been updated. One of these days, soon, I'll add search functions to those pages, so finding new material is easier. For now, though, you're looking for the last two items in the 'Doodles' section on her art page (they're marked as added 14 March), and the Public Service Announcement at the top of the Fur-Lo page (read it! You people sending her hatemail suck!) and the last panel in the 'Still More Single Panels' section are both new. And yes... the birthday panel is accurate; today's her birthday. :) (Louis Wu 15:22:04 UTC)

They've got direct downloads of the Evolution of Halo video, both halves of the Trickety Trick vid released recently, and a pair of short vides from Dre and TnP that aren't hosted anywhere else. Check it out! (Louis Wu 10:30:40 UTC)

Mac Halo v1.04 released
I posted this to our forum earlier, because HBO wasn't reachable. (It's STILL not reachable, for the most part, but that's not going to stop me from updating.) MacSoft has stepped up to the plate and released a 1.04 updater less than 2 days after the PC updater came out. The Press Release is brief and to the point:

MEDIA ALERT
MacSoft Releases Halo 1.04 Update

MINNEAPOLS, MN -February 13, 2004 - Destineers's MacSoft unit announces that they have released a patch for their hit game, Halo. The patch brings Halo for Macintosh to parity with the PC version, which was released just 1 day ago. User's wishing to apply the patch (v1.04) must already have Halo v1.03 installed.

The patch is available now at
http://nikon.bungie.org/misc/halo_103-1041_updater.sit

Mirror:
https://files.bungie.org/halo_103-1041_updater.sit

You should be aware that there might be keyboard issues with this release - there have been a few reports of oddness. (At least one was phrased in a pretty obnoxious way.) These have been reported to MacSoft; hopefully the issue will be resolved quickly. Update: Links have been replaced with the 1.041 updater links, to avoid confusion. (Louis Wu 01:52:35 UTC)

Elevation
I keep forgetting to put this in the news... but WhoKnew announced a new Halo movie that his clan (Alpha Base) has put together. It's called 'Elevation', and they're hosting copies in both WMP9 and MOV formats. It weighs in at 16 or 17 mb, depending on the version you get. Modded action - pretty fun flamethrower! New Screen - No Fun?
3Suns points out a writeup of last week's Halo 2 announcement and new screenshot over at Computer and Video Games - there's no information there that hasn't been covered on a few dozen sites by now, but the last paragraph is interesting:

[...] Bungie has also dipped into its vault and pulled out the first ever screenshot from the sequel's multiplayer mode. We're, erm, sure it's a lot more interesting to play than it looks.

I guess they're unhappy that it's barren... (Louis Wu 10:50:29 UTC)

Ph34r the Claw!
We didn't get a chance to post this on Friday, as we normally do - but Red vs Blue posted a new Public Service Announcement this week, in lieu of episode 23. It's out for everybody now - for sponsors in Hi-res (as it has been since Friday), and for casual visitors in 320x240. Go see what happens when NASA goes overboard... (Louis Wu 13:18:19 UTC)

HBO - on Homelan!
It took a little while, but the kinks have been worked out - and HBO is very proud to announce the presence of two more HBO Halo PC dedicated servers! Thanks to Homelan, those looking for the somewhat different flavor of gameplay on the HBO servers (no-shields BC Shotties, anyone?) can find what they crave at Homelan_HBO_East and Homelan_HBO_West, so named because of their geographical location. Try 'em out, see how good the gameplay is; low ping, low lag - these servers rock! (As with other HBO-branded servers, you can see a status report by clicking the link at the top of our main page. We'll be setting up a 32-seat Ventrilo server in the next couple of days, so that players can always jump into voice chat when they want to. Come Play With Us! (And don't forget to let Homelan know that they rock.) (Louis Wu 21:20:40 UTC)

A pair of vids
A couple of movies folks asked us to tell you about: First, a movie that MereCatfish wanted us to announce a couple of weeks ago; we managed to miss the email. It's called 'Fun, Yet Useless', and it's a Halo PC glitch/stunt film - title pretty much covers it. It's hosted by nukedude in WMP9 format (26.1 mb). (Apparently, there's also a DivX version at www.blam-halo.co.uk... but the link passed on to me doesn't work, and navigating the site directly turns up nothing.) A second movie comes from SpaceGhost2k, and is hosted by a buddy of his from the TeamXbox forums. it's called 'Halo Music Video', and weighs in at 50.6 mb in WMP9 format; it's stock footage from the two Halo 2 movies (almost uncut), set to Queen's 'Another One Bites the Dust'. Um... okay. (Louis Wu 11:27:07 UTC)

Number One One Se7en
So the buildup to One One Se7en number 117 has been pretty big; last week's (Stuntmutt-drawn) strips have all been teasers for it. Several people on our forum speculated that it would be tied, somehow, to the Plinth of Art announcement we made yesterday... but it was noted that main strips don't come out on Sundays. (I was amused that the Sunday strip that DID comment on the Plinth of Art, and that preceded the 117th strip, was number 17... you just can't get away from that stuff.) Anyway, the fact of the matter is, Stuntmutt DID go all out for this one. It's a special 4-page comic; I'm pretty sure he takes the prize in 'Halo on Legendary at Lightning Speed'. Go check it for yourself... (Louis Wu 03:06:19 UTC)

Presenting... The Plinth Of Art Results
On December 6, 2003, we announced the Plinth of Art - a contest for the rest of us, conceived of by Stuntmutt as a way to promote his One One Se7en strip in an ostensibly more elegant manner. On January 17, 2004, the contest ended - and today, we bring you the results. Congratulations to our winners - you can find full details, as well as all the entries, on the Plinth website. Enjoy, and have a great evening! (Louis Wu 03:21:58 UTC)
