Showing results 1226 - 1250 of 1472 matches September 29, 2004 Link to this post And Still MORE Zanzibar Footage E1337 points out a page at Xboxyde with a couple of vids on it; the first is simply a re-encode of a video we mentioned from them last week (if you didn't get it then, it might be worth grabbing now), the second is a 16 mb, 4:19 long WMP9 showing more Zanzibar gameplay from the TGS game floor. Video quality is good, audio is mostly the Japanese announcer and show sounds. For the collector who must have EVERY video... (Louis Wu 15:02:17 UTC)
September 16, 2004 Link to this post Backstage Pass Contest - Clarified We don't normally like to post the same news item twice, but this one deserves a double-post, because of the confusion. A couple of hours ago (but yesterday, by this site's clock), we announced a new contest in which Xbox Live subscribers would get a chance to win a 3 day/2 night trip to Bungie Studios to play Halo 2 before the rest of the world. Several threads immediately popped up on our forum, pointing out that while the sweepstakes page at Xbox.com states that "Twenty lucky winners from around the world (five in North America)" will be going to Redmond, the official rules page states that the contest is open only to "legal residents of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, and Canada (except Quebec)". Residents of non-North American countries - fear not! Each country sending people will have its own sweepstakes page, with its own eligibility requirements and rules. Once they're all live, you'll be able to see whether you meet the requirements in your country - but for now, remember that the contest doesn't close until October 15, so there's plenty of time. Sorry for the confusion! (Louis Wu 00:00:01 UTC)
September 14, 2004 Link to this post Good things are coming... Wow. Got mail from AEG, a PR firm that handles a lot of Microsoft's promotions; there's a BIG contest launching Wednesday, September 15, at 9 am PDT. We don't have a lot of details yet... but I do know it involves Halo 2, and Xbox Live, and as soon as the full contest announcement has been sent out, you'll be able to read all the details here. Stay tuned! Update: There's been a timing change; the announcement will happen at 1 pm PDT, not 9 am. Keep your eyes peeled! (Louis Wu 01:01:15 UTC)
August 27, 2004 Link to this post IGN goes to Germany IGN recently put up a sizeable movie, labeled 'Halo 2 Stuff', on its Halo 2 media page. It's available as a 320x240 WMP9 stream, for everyone, or a downloadable QuickTime (up to 315 mb in 640x480) for Insiders. What it IS is a (decent) shakeycam video of the Halo 2 presentation at the recent Leipzig Games Conference; Pete Parsons and Cam Payne played out the E3 2004 demo for the crowd. As far as footage goes, all of this is already on the web, in better quality... but the start of this video contains some pretty funny stuff. There are a couple of Nightmare-Armor-clad guys (that's not the funny part)... and then the two show announcers try to get the crowd riled up for the demo, and finally (all in German, remember) start yelling 'and here's Pete Parsons!', while pointing at Cam. (Pete wasn't on stage yet.) Cam is quietly trying to let them know he's not Pete - but they're pretty much ignoring him. Eventually, they get the message, and there are a couple of minutes of fumbling while someone goes off and FINDS Pete. Dunno... I found the whole thing hilarious - and I don't even speak German. (Pete, when he started the presentation, was cool as a cucumber.) Thanks to Art Vandelay for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 18:04:32 UTC)
August 27, 2004 Link to this post More reader questions answered at Gamespy Gamespy has put up part two of its Reader Feedback Followup article - I think the big news for some players is (finally) an official announcement from Frankie about the pistol: [The Pistol] will be back. It has been changed to suit dual-wielding and no longer has a scope. (It's been mentioned, obliquely, a few times... but it's nice to have a clear, unambiguous statement from a Bungie employee.) There's also clear information about weapons quantities (with respect to dual wielding), melee attacks, and other stuff. Definitely worth a read. Thanks, LaMuerte. (Louis Wu 13:27:49 UTC)
August 27, 2004 Link to this post OMGWTF Halo Babies has put up a new strip today... poor Misterchief. Also, they've announced the winners of their Avatar contest - you can download the winning entries now. (Louis Wu 12:35:17 UTC)
August 16, 2004 Link to this post German Gaming Poll NBC Giga, a German media site, has got a poll running for the latest Giga awards. One of the categories is 'Please Release' - and Halo 2 is on the list. Winners will be announced next week at the G|C Games Convention in Leipzig. Go vote! (The site is in German, but it's not hard to figure out what you need to do.) Thanks, Marc, from Halo Universe. (Louis Wu 08:20:52 UTC)
July 31, 2004 Link to this post 82 mb of Maw Goodness The final winning run in our Going Nowhere Fast contest, Trefitch's Maw sprint, is now available via Direct Download from the GNF Status page. If you're not one of the 900 people who have already grabbed this 82 mb file via BitTorrent - now's your chance to get an HTTP download. It's a gorgeous run... check it out! (Again - announcement of the Grand Prize winner should be sometime in the coming week.) (Louis Wu 19:57:05 UTC)
July 28, 2004 Link to this post Mac Halo Timer 1.5 released The latest version of the Mac Halo Timer, now up to 1.5, has been announced. Lots of new features - if you're running MacOSX 10.3 or higher, and you want to keep track of spawn times for various items, this puppy's for you! (Louis Wu 09:01:23 UTC)
July 28, 2004 Link to this post GNF Phase 10 The final winning run for our Going Nowhere Fast contest, Trevor Fitch's Maw run, is now available for download via BitTorrent. Once again - it hasn't been mentioned for a bit, so here is a BitTorrent client download link. This run is really efficient - no deaths at all, and some really classy moments. 82 mb, QuickTime format. Go grab it! Now that all 10 winning runs have been released, we're ready to begin consideration of the Grand Prize winner - these 10 runs, plus 20 more, will be analyzed for style and speed, and the run that comes out on top of the heap will garner for its owner a brand-new Limited-Edition Halo Xbox. Expect an announcement sometime next week. (Louis Wu 08:58:14 UTC)
July 21, 2004 Link to this post Happy Happy Carnage Carnage Today is the 5th anniversary of the MacWorld Trailer, the day that Halo was introduced to the world (and the planet reverberated with the clang of dropping jaws). And yesterday was, incidentally, the 5th anniversary of this domain name (halo.bungie.org) - the website had been up at that point for almost two months, but it had been reachable at blam.bungie.org; we changed names (and post formats) when Halo was officially announced. (Why the 1-day offset? It's hard to tell this far down the road... but I think it's a mistake. :) ) The traditional gift for a 5-year anniversary is wood - I offer you the inside of my skull in celebration. We've come a long way, baby! (Louis Wu 11:06:08 UTC)
July 19, 2004 Link to this post The Return of the Ring Ducain has announced a new contest - The Three Towers. Put stuff on the Blue Beam towers, win cool schwag. How great is that? (Louis Wu 16:09:11 UTC)
July 19, 2004 Link to this post A comment about leaks Many of you probably saw threads on various Halo or Xbox forums this weekend about leaked beta screenshots. Bungie has yet to make a public announcement about this (it's unlikely that they ever will, actually), but there are many clues that suggest that these aren't fakes; that they did, in fact, come from a beta version of Halo 2. I wanted to take a moment to state our official policy on leaks like this, and to explain why I think they're a problem. We will NOT allow links to these pictures to be posted to our forum - as we find them, we'll remove them, and if people persist, they'll be banned. As one of our admins posted last night, if you can't find them for yourself, that's YOUR problem. Many folks are asking what the big deal is - they're just screenshots, and not even very exciting ones... who cares? Putting aside the legal issues (which aren't actually minor), there's a really good reason to keep pics like this away from the public... many casual gamers don't realize that a beta version is NOT a final version. Often, there are elements that have been added specifically for beta testers - debugging information, or extra on-screen displays, so that testers can provide useful feedback to the creation team. (Beta testing isn't a game; that should have been made clear from the recent Bungie.net article. It's pretty serious business.) When beta shots hit the public, though, many people are oblivious to the fact that they're looking at a test image. We've already had folks griping on our forum about how cluttered the HUD looks, and how disappointed they are in Bungie for putting so much crap onscreen. Others read these comments, maybe without even looking at the pictures themselves, and the ideas spread... and before too long, there's buzz about how crappy the interface of Halo 2 is. Only... it's NOT the interface of Halo 2 - it's the interface for BETA TESTERS. Boiled down: the final product can NOT be judged by the appearance of an early beta - but because many people can't make distinctions like that, pictures of early betas do NOT belong in the public eye. July 13, 2004 Link to this post Miniature Halo Wallpaper Contest Winners SEspider has announced the winners of his Wallpaper contest on our forum - go read the details and check out the winning desktops. (Louis Wu 10:51:29 UTC)
July 5, 2004 Link to this post What DOES a Rabid Lilliputian look like? stan has announced a new contest - come up with a picture of his clan mascot, win free ice cream. Details in this forum post. (Louis Wu 09:23:29 UTC)
July 5, 2004 Link to this post Everybody loves eggs Hehe - Pico has found an egg in the recently-announced SP-to-MP conversion of AotCR, by nukedude... and while it was designed to be unattainable without cheating, nukedude has stated that there IS a way to get it (but he won't tell anyone how). Can YOU find the way? Personally, I'm more interested in the concept of a melee-only weapon in GENERAL - creating a map with ONLY this weapon would enforce the melee-only gametype we try (using the honor system) at local lanfests. (Louis Wu 08:14:48 UTC)
July 3, 2004 Link to this post B.net Avatar Contest Results SketchFactor has announced the winners (and not-so-winners) of the Bungie.net Avatar contest that's been going on this past month. There's some great stuff (and not so great stuff) to be seen - check it out! Thanks to Sep7imus for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 20:12:00 UTC)
July 3, 2004 Link to this post Halo Custom Edition... in limbo Ow. A note on our forum points out that Randy Pitchford has made an announcement on the Gearbox forum that there will be no Halo CE updates in the near future - work on the project was contingent on market penetration, and to date, Halo CE adoption has been disappointing. This is definitely a blow to those looking to improve the Custom Edition product... (As far as I can tell, c0ld vengeance had nothing to do with this news post.) Update: STB pointed out a thread that brings ALL of his posts into one place - taken as a whole, it's far more positive than the first post we mentioned. Read the thread. (Louis Wu 17:12:51 UTC)
July 2, 2004 Link to this post 4th of July Safety Tips Red vs Blue has decided to put off the release of Episode 38 (the final episode of Season 2) so that they can make it as polished as they want it to be. In its place, they've released a new Public Service announcement to celebrate the Fourth of July - and I gotta say, it made me laugh... a LOT. It's up for sponsors now, and should be up for the general public later this weekend. Grab it, watch it, and HEED ITS WARNINGS! (Louis Wu 21:07:17 UTC)
June 10, 2004 Link to this post Oochy 2 - Ouchy. Merecatfish has sent us a note about Oochy 2, it's a sequel to Oochy Woochy. It's 13.7 mb, in WMP9 format (4:11 long). It shows... well, I'm not sure. It shows you glitches in maps you've never seen before (and that aren't identified in the movie). You have no clue what's a glitch and what's not - because you don't know how the map USUALLY acts in that situation. To top it off, parts are too dark to see. If this sounds like your cup of tea, you can download it from Coerce.net or Boomerica. But wait - there's more! Mere also created a 3:07, 6.5 mb Outtakes movie that's roughly as exciting to watch as a snake shedding its skin. In slow motion. Again, this is available from Coerce.net and Boomerica. I warned Mere that if he made me announce this, I was going to have to alter the rules we have about movie announcements - he said to go ahead and announce it anyway. The old rule was that if a submitted movie met our hosting guidelines, we would provide bandwidth for it, and announce it on our news page. If it didn't meet our guidelines, we would still announce it if the creator found hosting space elsewhere. Because I fear MORE movies like this being released, I need to change these rules to state that if a movie doesn't meet some minimum standard for general interest, we will not be willing to put up a news post about it, EVEN IF YOU FIND YOUR OWN HOSTING. If that sounds a bit draconian... well, sorry. (Louis Wu 20:57:34 UTC)
June 7, 2004 Link to this post Is This Some Kind Of Joke? One One Se7en checks out a new Halo 2 feature revealed at E3. I was waiting for the 'Candygram' announcement. (Louis Wu 12:49:40 UTC)
June 1, 2004 Link to this post Halo 2 Music Transcription Rampancy.net has posted a transcription of the music from the Halo 2 announcement trailer, courtesy of Poop Scoop. 2.5 mb, due to the 8 pages of hi-res jpegs - and there's also a Finale Notepad file containing the whole score. Nice! (Louis Wu 16:01:33 UTC)
May 25, 2004 Link to this post Looking Back From Narcogen, at Rampancy.net: In celebration of Rampancy's fifth year (the early parts of which were spent
as The Core), we've published the first two parts of Halo: Combat
Retrospective, a look back at what people thought of Bungie and Halo before
the award-winning game was even announced, yet alone released, and what's
changed since then: everything and nothing. Narcogen reminds us, obliquely, that we've allowed our own 5-year anniversary to pass, unheralded. (It was Saturday.) As long as I don't forget my OWN, though, I guess we're fine. (Louis Wu 12:46:53 UTC)
May 23, 2004 Link to this post Fan Fiction contest announced Steve and Hextall27 are starting up the 1st Annual Enkidu Fanfic Contest - rules and regulations can be found in this forum post. They're also looking for judges. (Louis Wu 22:27:59 UTC)
May 22, 2004 Link to this post A Secret Character, eh? The Bungie Weekly Update is on our forum again this week. Frankie said they owed us because nobody believed that last week's was real. Personally, I think the naked pictures of Divine I slipped him at E3 were what tipped the scales. It's a pretty darn good update... there's animation stuff, slow-mo effects, vehicle physics, and the return of some of the material from the Halo Announcement Trailer. (Reinforcements are on the Spoke... so what's this about a pickle?) Check it out! (Louis Wu 00:13:48 UTC)
