Showing results 1076 - 1100 of 1472 matches April 29, 2006 Link to this post The Heretic Teaser The team that brought you The Codex series last year has released an Announcement Teaser for The Heretic, an upcoming series. Spectacular editing work, married to pristine camera handling, all bundled up with a gorgeous new piece from Edgen, called 'Halo - The Heretic' - this one should SERIOUSLY whet your appetite. Grab it in QuickTime or WMP9 formats from The Heretic website. If you love the music as much as we do, Edgen has given us permission to host a copy of it, in MP3 format - 2.3 mb. (And if you want to check out more of Edgen's work, visit his portfolio reel - there's some amazing stuff in there.) Comments (on either The Heretic, or its music) can be added to Nerrolken's forum thread. (Louis Wu 00:21:09 UTC)
April 25, 2006 Link to this post Rumble Hardcore Now Available Heh - looks like the new Halo 2 XBL playlist Rumble Hardcore is up and live, with no announcements - go play! Thanks, Compton. (Louis Wu 19:53:19 UTC)
April 25, 2006 Link to this post Soundtrack Contest Voting Now Open At long last, the public voting phase for the 7 on the 7th Halo 2 Soundtrack v2 contest is open! (Huge apologies for the ridiculous delay.) The bungie.org admin staff has taken the 250 entries, removed the invalid ones, and pared the remainder down to a manageable 49 images; your job, as visitors, is to look through these, and pick your favorite 7. Later this week (or possibly this weekend), we'll tally up the totals, and announce the winners; 7 lucky entrants will receive a signed copy of the Halo 2 Soundtrack Volume 2 (officially on sale TODAY!). Once the winners are announced, we'll also put up a page containing ALL the (valid) entries, so you can rant at us about how bad our taste is. For now, though... GO VOTE! (Please take the time to read the initial page; there's some important info in there. Thanks.) Update: Bah, I'd left the directory password-protected accidentally. Fixed now. Thanks, Teo. April 21, 2006 Link to this post Tournament News A couple of tournament announcements - one I missed from earlier this week (sorry, XsAik0) in Northern Virginia - 2v2 on April 29, more details here or here, and one in West Chester Ohio - 4v4 on May 6 (thanks, Scooter). If you live in either area, check these out! (Louis Wu 22:16:34 UTC)
April 12, 2006 Link to this post Rampant Rumor-Mongering On April 1, we posted a (fake) press release from Jagex, the company behind Runescape; it announced Halo: Online, a Massively Multiplayer online role-playing game based on the Halo universe. This press release was created by Ross Mills, a longtime community member and current employee of Jagex, and while he thinks the concept is cool, he created the press release for April Fools because he knew it wasn't real. Don't tell that to The Mole, though - this writer, over at Blogcritics.org, suggests that this sort of game is EXACTLY what Bungie is working on right now. According to The Mole they're going to announce it at E3... and release it this fall. Let me go on record as saying that I believe The Mole... is smoking something that's almost certainly not legal in this country. (Louis Wu 13:44:12 UTC)
April 5, 2006 Link to this post MLG Pro - It's where the (Halo) money is 3Suns provides a roundup of new stuff at the MLGPro.com website; Player of the Week is Bonfire, Blog of the Week belongs to CodeRed... and the Prize Money Announcement for MLG NY has been posted, and hot dang, there's almost $30,000 in Halo prizes alone! (There's another $10k for SSBM.) Check it all out. (Louis Wu 14:48:01 UTC)
April 5, 2006 Link to this post H2O Stats Reader v1.5.3 LunarShadow dropped by our forum to announce an update of H2O Stats Reader, to bring the program in line with the changes made at Bungie.net this week. You can find a link and more info in the forum post. (There's at least one report of problems with the new version, as well - so be careful.) (Louis Wu 14:35:31 UTC)
March 31, 2006 Link to this post IGN: The Rumor Guys Gah. When sites as big as IGN post rumors about Halo 3 release dates, our mailboxes fill up with speculation. According to them, Halo 3 will be released in March 2007, with more info coming at E3. This might be true, it might be garbage... we can't say. Bungie is still keeping mum about whether or not they're even DEVELOPING the title, much less when they're releasing it. Nevertheless, IGN has put this up, which means unless we acknowledge that it's out there, our mailboxes will CONTINUE to fill. When Bungie actually announces something, we'll be sure to crow it from the rooftops... looks like Coolpengwn was the first to let us know. (Louis Wu 10:40:13 UTC)
March 28, 2006 Link to this post Sheet music - now for schools Wow, very very cool. We get email regularly from high school students or teachers looking for sheet music for Halo pieces; we generally send them to Rampancy.net, which has (I think) the largest collection of Halo sheet music on the net. However, most of this is fan-transcribed, and ranges in quality from very, very good to... um, not so good. Konrad noticed an article over at Siliconera which says Video Games Live has teamed up with Alfred Publishing to bring a number of video game pieces to schools. The arrangements seem to be done by teachers... but I'm guessing there's SOME sort of quality control, right? (I can't point you directly to the VGL announcement at Alfred, because it's in a frameset - but it's about halfway down their front page at the moment. Currently, it lists The Halo Theme (for both Orchestra and Marching Band) and Halo (for Concert Band), all ranging from $50-$60, with more pieces coming.) (Louis Wu 19:49:20 UTC)
March 21, 2006 Link to this post Stealing Sucks. Really. I wish this sort of thing never needed to be written - but I HATE theft of intellectual property. A week and a half ago, Tony Muzzatti dropped by our forum to announce a casting call for a new TV pilot he was going to film. It included links to a promo video. A few days later, he stopped by again, with more details. A week after that, a movie was submitted to the MPRRS, by Zach Larson, of Team ZCZ, otherwise known as ClanFSR. (You might remember ClanFSR; they were in our news a month ago for stealing other people's videos and claiming them for their own.) The video submitted by Zach used the same music, the same dialogue, the same action as Tony's promo vid; the biggest difference was that it had been refilmed on Headlong, where Tony's was filmed on Coagulation. It's one thing to hear someone's idea, say "hey, I can do that better", and beat them to market... it's another thing entirely to rip them off outright and claim their work as your own. Once again, ClanFSR/ClanZCZ/ClanWhatever has shown that they have zero morals, and about that much creativity. Here's a warning to steer clear. (And if you DO happen to run into one of 'em, keep your hand on your wallet.) (Louis Wu 21:45:24 UTC)
March 20, 2006 Link to this post True Believer. Friday, Bungie announced the Halo Graphic Novel, and how it would be published by Marvel. Today, One One Se7en points out a potential downside to that teamup. (Louis Wu 17:53:33 UTC)
March 18, 2006 Link to this post A Graphic Novel... Fanmade Demonelite wanted to put together a Halo graphic novel using in-game shots, modified in Photoshop - last night's announcement of an official one prompted him to post his efforts so far. (There are higher-res versions in this post.) Fantastic stuff! (Louis Wu 20:25:58 UTC)
March 18, 2006 Link to this post For those who love Halo art... Wow. Bungie's Weekly Update is certainly worth reading this week... they've announced what looks to be a pretty darned spectacular product, coming this summer... a Halo Graphic Novel, put together by some amazing names. Go read it; I can't do it justice with a news post. (It's at B.net, of course, but it's also local, in the BWU Archive.) If you're wondering about that link name... check this forum post from earlier this afternoon. Moral of the story - Frankie can be petty, don't cross him. (Louis Wu 01:36:38 UTC)
March 13, 2006 Link to this post The Big Pink Elephant Over the past few months, Narcogen has been getting more and more vocal about his distaste for the Bungie policy of silence with respect to upcoming projects. (He's not complaining that they're not discussing upcoming projects in detail - he's unhappy that they're not even saying WHAT they're working on - that today, almost a year and a half after the release of Halo 2, they haven't announced whether or not they're even planning on a Halo 3.) Last night, he posted a pretty solidly-reasoned argument on our forum - and then decided it was worth saving for posterity in his blog at Rampancy.net. It's unlikely that Bungie is going to change its publicity policies based on fan demand... but you DO have to wonder what's holding up the announcement about whether or not they ever plan to release a third installment. (To be clear: I understand completely why a gaming company would want to remain close-mouthed about the DETAILS of the game(s) they're working on - but as Narc points out, a huge percentage of the Halo 2 purchasers out there are expecting a Halo 3, simply because of how the second game ended; the longer Bungie goes without making an announcement, the harder it's going to be to weather the storm if the announcement is 'we're bagging it'.) Go read. (Louis Wu 16:42:56 UTC)
March 9, 2006 Link to this post Learning Lessons from the Timmys of our Time Last week, Mothergoat released the MPD public service announcement - and fans loved it. Today, you can grab just the MP3 - hi-res, 3 mb worth of teh funni. Go listen! (Louis Wu 11:50:50 UTC)
March 5, 2006 Link to this post MPD - You CAN be cured. Wow. Mothergoat took some time out of his busy schedule to put together a Public Service Announcement yesterday; he looks carefully at MPD, a treatable disorder affecting a large percentage of the over-24 gamer population. I think even Green Day would approve. Swing by his forum post for download links (we've provided local mirrors, both of his original WMP9 and a QT version for those who need it). Then laugh a lot. (Louis Wu 15:02:23 UTC)
March 4, 2006 Link to this post In Europe, it's called the Space Program. Very cool - a new Public Service Announcement has been posted over at Red vs Blue... "The Olympics Suck." It's pretty funny; I was just discussing why nobody watched the Olympics this year, over dinner... and now this! It's got something for everybody - even Stephen Colbert. If you're a sponsor, go grab a copy. If you're not... wait a few days. Maybe watch some Olympic highlights or something while you wait. Thanks, CougRon. (Louis Wu 03:48:05 UTC)
March 1, 2006 Link to this post Managing XPectations. So, not too long ago, Bungie announced that Halo 2 would be coming out on Windows Vista - and a lot of people griped that they didn't want to upgrade their operating system just to play Halo 2. Stuntmutt takes the 'if you can't beat 'em, laugh at 'em' tack in today's One One Se7en. (Louis Wu 14:18:38 UTC)
February 25, 2006 Link to this post 7 on the 7th - next phase Heh - it's been so long, many of you have probably forgotten... but the 7 on the 7th Halo Joke contest closed its doors to submissions last night, and judging has begun. Even after tossing the stuff that's not Halo-related, there is still a HUGE list of jokes to go through... but never fear, we'll pick 7 winners soon, and announce them when we do! (Louis Wu 14:15:33 UTC)
February 16, 2006 Link to this post MLG 2006 Season Official Announcement MLG kicks off the 2006 season with a huge, detailed announcement full of tour and event details, rules, and a mess of other stuff. Check it out, and thanks to Derek for the heads-up on the forum. (mnemesis 22:28:08 UTC)
February 16, 2006 Link to this post Major Nelson Live DJ Voltage Spike of MMORadio.com drops by the forum to announce that Major Nelson will be their live guest tonight on the Gametime Radio Show. The show starts at 6 pm PST, so listen in to hear what the Major has to say about... Xbox Live stuff. They'll also have a toll-free number and a Skype account, so you can call in your questions. (mnemesis 22:08:21 UTC)
February 11, 2006 Link to this post Fangtasm Today's Weekly Update is, unsurprisingly, mostly about the Halo 2 for Vista announcement yesterday. It's worth a read, especially if you feel betrayed. There's also some pretty droolworthy stuff about upcoming Halo novels , and a rather disturbing picture. And, of course, you can read it locally if you so choose. I haven't been to the forum yet, but I've no doubt Frankie was first with the announcement. Hang on... yep. (Louis Wu 00:22:43 UTC)
February 10, 2006 Link to this post Halo Movie News You might remember LatinoReview.com - last November, they posted a review of the Halo script, which stirred up a little bit of controversy. Today, they posted a review of the Casino Royale script... and buried at the bottom is a small note of interest to Halo movie news watchers: Also we just got word that D.B. Weiss, the writer of the excellent spec script KASHMIR, which was one of my top 5 scripts of 2004 is rewriting HALO. Expect an official announcement soon. Go read the rest of it for El Mayimbe's comments... and this time around, think twice before screaming "fake!" (It'll be interesting to see if/when this news makes it public in more standard channels...) (Louis Wu 14:50:57 UTC)
February 9, 2006 Link to this post Halo 2 on Vista - Explained. Well, sort of. Over at Bungie.net, Frankie's posted a pretty large article about the whole Halo 2 on Vista thing; there's an awful lot of "we'll provide you with more details in the future"... but there's also some decent info. Bungie's not doing the conversion, but they're helping. (It's not being farmed out to a 3rd party developer, like Halo was; the conversion is being done by an internal MGS team.) No (real) word on a Mac version yet. There's also some cut-and-paste PR on Windows Vista... which might make you wonder a bit about the "we're not doing this to sell a new operating system" answer. (But only a bit.) As you get closer to the bottom, you can pretty much stop reading; the answers to every single question are 'we haven't said anything yet'. Whee! (I'm sure that's as frustrating for Frankie as it is for us.) (Louis Wu 18:59:44 UTC)
February 4, 2006 Link to this post MLG Championship - coming soon 3Suns points out that MLG has announced the location (and dates) of their National Championships this year - they'll be in New York City on February 25 and 26. Book your plane fare now! (Louis Wu 14:21:54 UTC)
