Showing results 926 - 950 of 952 matches February 4, 2005 Link to this post Saving Private Cyan I'm always amazed by how many people are now working on machinima projects, and how many of them are actually pretty good. I found a series called 'Saving Private Cyan' over at turtleturtleclan.net; Episode One is out now, Episode Two is coming this month. The voice acting could use some work... but the cinematography is quite good. Don't kill their bandwidth downloading from them, though - get Episode One from us. It's available in its original DivX format (25.1 mb) from
bungie.org or mythica.org , or reencodings into QuickTime format (24.3 mb - bungie.org or mythica.org) and WMP9 format (25.4 mb - bungie.org or mythica.org). (Louis Wu 18:05:44 UTC)
February 1, 2005 Link to this post The Codex - up again Last night, we posted links to a trailer for The Codex, a new machinima production. Their server melted. They moved to a new host, and the links are back online, with smaller downloads (which means more people can view them)... and to make sure it doesn't happen again, we've tossed up mirrors on mythica.org and files.bungie.org. Go grab 'em! (Louis Wu 21:28:53 UTC)
January 22, 2005 Link to this post One Bag for Two Dennis Powers writes to point out a new machinima series he's begun - it's called 'The Halo CE Chronicles', and follows a "hapless Spartan stationed to a
distant Outpost Station and his relationship with the station's AI." Currently, there are two movies to see - a short trailer, and a 3:49 Episiode 1. The movies are in Flash format, so all you'll need to see them is a browser. Powers does all the voices to date. Check it out! (Louis Wu 21:07:33 UTC)
January 18, 2005 Link to this post Meet the Family Machinima marches on - Stryke Force HQ, a series started up a month ago, has posted episode 2 on their video page. Lots of backstory, mixed with clean filmmaking technique - absolutely worth a watch! (This episode is WMP9-only at the moment, but I'm working on a QT version... the only issue is bandwidth.) 17.6 mb - go grab it! (Feenix started a thread about this in our forum - don't forget to shoot them some feedback!) (Louis Wu 13:48:16 UTC)
January 18, 2005 Link to this post Just another face at Zanzibar Gavin Miller dropped us a note to let us know that the machinima series Them vs Us (first mentioned a couple of weeks ago) has a new website, a new forum, and two new vids up... with their first actual episode coming later this week. Go check 'em out! (Louis Wu 12:12:46 UTC)
January 16, 2005 Link to this post Bob the Engineer Yaksha posted a small (3.1 mb) film on our forum, a trailer for ano upcoming machinima called 'Bob the Engineer'. It's 1:28 long, in WMP9 format. I'm not sure how long his bandwidth will hold out, so we've provided mirrors - for the original file and a QuickTime version (3.9 mb). (Louis Wu 16:24:45 UTC)
January 7, 2005 Link to this post Halo as an education at Sundance According to Slashdot, the Red vs Blue crew will participate in a panel discussion on machinima at the end of January at the Sundance film festival, presenting a live demo showing how they produce RvB. Nice! Thanks, full-bore. (The 'feature in the January 2005 issue of Wired' mention has to do with Rooster Teeth's The Strangerhood series, not RvB.) (Louis Wu 20:18:58 UTC)
December 31, 2004 Link to this post THEM vs US Another Machinima series starting up - THEM vs US: A Zanzibar Story. Currently there's just a teaser up on the page, but they promise more to come. Their hook - it's all being done over XBL. The performers have never met in real life. Give it a look! (Louis Wu 00:14:09 UTC)
December 19, 2004 Link to this post I was waitin' for Boss Hogg there... The Hi-Res version of FTC 16 is now posted for sponsors, over at XboxOttawa.ca. It's rather huge (almost 150 mb, in DivX format), and I've got a correspondingly huge QuickTime version in the works (should be up later today or tomorrow at the latest) - but man... it's some awesome work. These guys get better and better. You might have to go back and watch older episodes if you've forgotten any of the story threads... but this one is packed with almost 14 minutes of beautiful machinima. The lower-res free version will be up sometime later... but if you can hack the $10 donation fee they're asking, this large version is GORGEOUS. (Louis Wu 15:49:19 UTC)
December 14, 2004 Link to this post Stryke Force - now mirrored Last night, we mentioned a new machinima series, Stryke Force. Within a couple of hours, it was dead in the water, a victim of enthusiastic downloaders. Episode One was interesting, and deserves to be seen... so we're helping out. You can find the original WMP9 version (20.4 mb) at both mythica.org and bungie.org, and a QuickTime version I just encoded (19.9 mb) also at mythica.org and bungie.org. Hopefully, these will lighten the load on the original server, and allow the HTML pages they have to be displayed. (Louis Wu 15:28:53 UTC)
December 14, 2004 Link to this post Stryke Force Starts Up Feenix dropped us a line about a new machinima series known as Stryke Force - a promo video and the first full episode are now posted. Video quality is quite good, and the story is intriguing... can't wait for the next episode! Take a look. (WMP9 format, 20.5 mb for Episode 1 - the promo vid is DivX format, and 9 mb. The Opening credits are included in the first episode, so unless you HAVE to have the hi-res version of them, you can save yourself the 8 mb download.) And don't forget to stop by their forum and let 'em know what you think! Update: well, that didn't last long. We got word about 2 hours after we posted this that the site had gone down for exceeding its bandwidth. (I'd have posted this note earlier had I noticed, sorry.) I can't do anything about helping out right now - but it's possible I can get a copy of the vid up later today. (Louis Wu 02:14:25 UTC)
November 23, 2004 Link to this post Alone It's amazing what turns up when you're not looking. We got email from Jeremy Durkota about a machinima series known as 'Alone' - it was created by a Red vs Blue fan and promoted on the Sponsors vs Freeloaders site (they're a RvB fansite)... but when I visited a couple of days ago, I was surprised to find not one or two episodes, but two SEASONS. There are a dozen films, ranging from promos to commercials to actual episodes, almost all the work of one guy, Matt Spencer. Check out Echo Zulu Films! (Louis Wu 14:41:26 UTC)
October 16, 2004 Link to this post The Heart is a Lonely Hunter Every once in a while, a Halo movie comes along that's head and shoulders above almost everything else out there. Great filmography, awesome sound, fantastic voice acting... if you look back on all of the Halo machinima creations that have been released (we're not talking music videos now, or gameplay presentations), there are only a couple that are up there in a class that can stand alone, be of interest OUTSIDE the Halo community. (Red vs Blue is probably the most prominent example.) Now (in my opinion), there's a new one. 'The Heart is a Lonely Hunter' is a 30-minute movie which has it all; great acting, great storyline, great cinematography, great music, great effects. Humor and pathos, all rolled into a Halo-driven package. 30 minutes is WAY too much to release on the web in this format, so they've broken it up into 6 episodes. The first one (as well as a 1:14-long, 7.5 mb trailer) is available on the HiaLH website; It's 2:51 long, 20 mb, in QuickTime format. To ease the load on their server, we've mirrored this episode at mythica.org (and the trailer, too). Episode 2 will be released sometime early next week. Our forum is still down, so comments should be sent directly to the team (check their Contact page for email addresses) or to us - we'll pass them along. Update: As many of you have noticed, the HiaLH website is offline right now, for exceeding their bandwidth. We're tossing up another mirror of both of these files; you can find the trailer and Part 1 at files.bungie.org. We're talking about BitTorrenting the entire thing, but give us some time to work it out. (Louis Wu 15:18:51 UTC)
October 1, 2004 Link to this post The Strangerhood Recently, a new website put together by the Red vs Blue team went live - The Strangerhood is a new machinima series that uses the Sims 2 engine for storymaking. This is totally unrelated to Halo - except that a team that came together to make Halo-based movies originally is making this. An astounding number of folks wrote to tell us about it, so rather than let this flood CONTINUE, I figure we'll actually mention it. There are a number of articles about the new series prominently linked on their front page, as well as an intro trailer that can be downloaded. It's really well done, and if you enjoy machinima, you should check it out - but please, don't send us news about this, because even though we love the guys involved, it's not Halo-related. Enjoy! (Louis Wu 08:29:12 UTC)
September 24, 2004 Link to this post Machinima in the Ottawa Citizen The multipage article on machinima (with a focus on FTC) that appeared in yesterday's Ottawa Citizen is now online, for folks with a subscription to the paper. If you DON'T have a subscription, SquattingBear4ever sent in a huge (2685x1684, 815K) scan of the article. It's a great read. (Louis Wu 13:27:20 UTC)
September 23, 2004 Link to this post Ottawa Citizen continues its Halo coverage A couple of days ago, Andrew, from XboxOttawa, pointed out in our forum that today's Ottawa Citizen newspaper would be running an article in its Tech section that covers machinima and several groups that use Halo to make it (including XboxOttawa). If you're somewhere that that newspaper is available, grab a copy! (If you're not, we'll bring you a press scan after it's off the shelves.) (Louis Wu 09:37:24 UTC)
August 27, 2004 Link to this post Lethal Rage 4 Pico has put up a teaser for Lethal Rage 4, the next in his series of machinima battle vids. About 2 mb, in either WMP9 or QuickTime formats. (Mostly hype, but there's enough rapid-action video to make you want this out...) (Louis Wu 12:44:48 UTC)
August 16, 2004 Link to this post RvB Set Pieces IV Hawaiian Pig continues his RvB Set Pieces series with Installment IV - Requests. He's been combining the MegaBattle Picture technique (using the development camera in HaloCE to put multiple characters in the same scene) with the popular machinima series to create scenes from Red vs Blue, in high resolution, as they might look from a different camera angle than the RvB team used. The forum post contains links to the last batch of pics, in case you missed them, followed by a couple of much requested scenes... and some REALLY impressive movie posters for Season 3. Check 'em out! (Louis Wu 08:27:27 UTC)
July 12, 2004 Link to this post FTC13 available for the masses - sort of Hmm. Fire Team Charlie has put up low-res versions of Episode 13 for download via BitTorrent... but the torrent file links to a zip file that contains BOTH the DivX and QuickTime versions (so you have to download 142 mb worth of content ANYWAY). Oddness. Hopefully, they'll separate these out to two separate torrents soon. Meanwhile, if you don't mind grabbing extra content, go get 'em! Update: There are now separate torrent files for the two different versions on the FTC Downloads page, so you only need to download the 70 mb version you WANT, rather than both. :) This is really one of the most technologically impressive bits of Halo Machinima to be made... you definitely want to check it out. (Louis Wu 08:08:55 UTC)
May 24, 2004 Link to this post More post-fanfest pics Andrew, from XboxOttawa, has put up some pics he took at Dean Miranda's Plasma Fiesta lanfest after E3 - he managed to miss all the food, but he got the people. Yes, Silverbrin likes playing Halo standing up. Don't ask me why. (Louis Wu 01:01:30 UTC)
December 22, 2003 Link to this post RvB interview at machinima.com Geoff Fink (gfunk) and Gus Sorola (guS) , of Red vs Blue, have been interviewed over at machinima.com today; if you're interested about how they got their start, and where they're going, go read this! Thanks to Hugh Hancock for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 14:56:06 UTC)
October 27, 2003 Link to this post Congrats, RvB! Thanks to jayWHY, for noticing that Machinima.com has posted the results from Saturday's Machinima Awards 2003 (they'll be officially posted by Machinima.org later today). Red vs Blue's Blood Gulch Chronicles took Best Independent Machinima Film, Best Writing, and Best Picture - not a bad collection of prizes! (You can download most of the entries, including a whopping 487 mb, 4-episode version of Blood Gulch Chronicles, from FilePlanet.) (Louis Wu 11:53:02 UTC)
October 24, 2003 Link to this post RvB on MSNBC The Machinima Film Festival to take place in New York tomorrow got a writeup on MSNBC. Red vs Blue (nominated for lots of awards) is mentioned prominently, and even Randy Glass' Warthog Jump site gets a link. Check it out! (Thanks, Kev117.) (Louis Wu 19:39:30 UTC)

In addition, Halo 2 was nominated for the best Commercial/Game Machinima. (This last is odd, since it won't be out in 2003...) Check both the Academy's website, and the Museum's, for more details. Nice going, RvB! (Louis Wu 12:30:53 UTC)
