I.M. Banks gets cyclical with T.S. Eliot
Hamish Sinclair notices a nice little bit of cyclicism in Iain M. Banks' Culture novel. The title of his latest book, Look To Windward, comes from a T.S. Eliot poem called "The Waste Land"... and this particular passage was quoted at the start of Banks' first Culture novel, Consider Phlebas. (Just to try and tie it all into Halo, another T.S. Eliot quote appears in the Cortana Letters.) Nice spotting, Hamish! (Louis Wu 20:32:47 UTC)

Doug confirms that second face is Shikai
In the midst of the chaos, info. While we let whatever's happening at the Core take its course, we'd like to pull out one nugget from the wreck that is the forum. Char the Pirate passed along that Doug Zartman confirmed that the sniper in the GameCenter shots is Shikai Wang, not Doug himself. The actual quote, on the off chance that all info at the Core is lost, was this:

In a letter to doug telling him what I liked about the shot i mentioned the snipers face (I congratulated him on it). He replied with this, "Thanks! I'd love to take the credit, but I gotta tell you (assuming you're talking about the Gamecenter screens) that that's a pic of Chucky and Shikai, one of the Halo artists. All of the team's faces are in one or another build of the game at this point."

Nice to have closure on that one. (Louis Wu 07:38:06 UTC)

Allan Turner says more models to come
Massa, from Halo Network, asked Bungie about the Gamecenter screens. Allan Turner, tech support for Bungie, suggested that these are but a taste of what is to come. Encouraging news! (You can read his whole quote here.) (Louis Wu 05:41:27 UTC)

In a similar vein, Matt is FAR more forthcoming about the actual state of development in another post. Here's a snippet:

The physics are pretty much done at this point; there will certainly be tweaking done here and there but the bulk of it is ready to go. The bare bones of the story have been etched out for a while but a lot of the intensely detailed bits are still in Jason and Rob's heads. We're still concentrating on building the net game; there are nightly games here at the office. When that's solid, we start serious work on the solo game (certain preparatory work is being done now, but there aren't any complete missions you can play from start to finish).

Read the details for yourself! (Nightly net games... hmm, wonder how hard it would be to break into Bungie headquarters?) (Louis Wu 00:01:00 UTC)

Thanks to Moose-Factory, who posted on our forum about a new GameSpot article/poll on the "Best Action Games of 2000". Currently, with just under 2000 votes, Halo trails TF2 by 8%. See if you can fix that! (The article starts here.) (Louis Wu 01:39:39 UTC)

Seen on Total Halo: A couple of tidbits from gaming mags. PC Gamer says they have new screens, but are waiting to publish... and InciteGames says Bungie has asked them to remove the Incite movie because "development direction on the game has changed and our movie (evidently) no longer accurately represents the game." Nice snag, fAT1! Pax. (Crux Fidelis 19:52:34 UTC)

A small mystery cleared up! Back in January, we reported that a small player nametag ("Husk") had been identified on a screenshot. Today, on our forums, Matt "my ears are burning" Soell identified that tag as a bot designator. Who says we can't get answers to our questions? (Louis Wu 20:10:38 UTC)
