Showing results 101 - 125 of 143 matches April 8, 2004 Link to this post Get on the Grid Once upon a time, HBO participated actively in the distributed search for extraterrestrial intelligence - and the Halo SETI Marines continue today, though at a much slower pace than when they were front-page news here every day. A year or so ago, Ross Mills started the HBO Researcher team at grid.org, aimed at using distributed computing to help find a cure for cancer. Today, P_71W has started a NEW team, this one ALSO at grid.org; they're called 'Team H.B.O.'. If you have extra CPU cycles going unused in your home or workplace, you can put them to use fighting cancer, or helping with smallpox research, or combating bioterrorism... and do so banded together with other HBO fans. Grab a client, and get crunching! (Louis Wu 09:20:07 UTC)
April 4, 2004 Link to this post Oh, the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune... Red vs Blue has posted a bizarre collection of Sarge outtakes for Sponsors - 2:29 of surreal reminiscences and pretzel dips. Thanks to Ross Mills for noticing. (Louis Wu 03:45:33 UTC)
April 3, 2004 Link to this post Dream Team Recently, we'd mentioned that we'd mentioned the translucent green Xbox/copy of Halo/special-Halo-logo-S-controller deal. Well, Ross "I Suck" Mills has found a press release detailing the US availability of the boxes and has printed it out in our forum. Of course, he didn't actually provide a link to the release, but luckily for you I found it at PR Newswire. Only $169.00 and only 200,000 available, so go check it out! (mnemesis 00:58:03 UTC)
April 1, 2004 Link to this post He had to pay US for this. This one we didn't even WANT - but it was left on our doorstep, like a bedraggled kitten, and we simply didn't have the heart to turn it away. Ross Mills' Halo Ideas site is now a bungie.org subsidiary. We're going to use it for waste management. (Louis Wu 20:59:19 UTC)
March 23, 2004 Link to this post The Art of Halo - on its way Ross Mills posted an interesting tidbit to our forum recently; 'The Art of Halo', a book we mentioned a few months ago, is 'basically done and is undergoing review'. Looking forward to it! (Louis Wu 09:39:30 UTC)
March 22, 2004 Link to this post Two new movies for RvB sponsors Back in early February, Burnie Burns and Geoff Fink of Red vs Blue were interviewed for TechTV's Unscrewed. We actually had the footage uploaded to us by Sniperman27, and we contacted Unscrewed to find out if we could display it; the answer came back that they would do it for us... but they never did. Not to worry, though, because that same clip is now up as a Sponsors Extra over at the Red vs Blue site! There's also a very cool 3:29 long video from the Alamo Drafthouse last week, giving some flavor of that event (we mentioned it on the 14th), and showing off (in really bad lighting) the Blue Nightmare Armor. Thanks to c0ld vengeance for the heads-up on our forum. Dang, sorry - that would be Ross Mills. My bad. (Louis Wu 12:18:55 UTC)
March 18, 2004 Link to this post Kiss Me, I'm Irish Red vs Blue has put up another Sponsors-only vid, in honor of St. Patrick's Day; it's short (1:14), and small (7.3 mb), and only available in the RvB forum at the moment... unfortunately for c0ld vengeance, credit for this one goes to Ross Mills, who noticed it and posted on our forum. (Louis Wu 09:31:40 UTC)
March 16, 2004 Link to this post X is for Austin Red vs Blue has put up a promo for the SXSW Film Festival, which they attended on Sunday night. It's pretty funny... and it's Sponsors-only. If you gave 'em some cash, go check it out! (Thanks goes to Ross Mills, who pointed it out on our forum.) (Louis Wu 13:02:08 UTC)
February 6, 2004 Link to this post So, You From Around Here, Baby? Red vs Blue has posted Episode 23 for sponsors - you know where to go. Seems like filler, for the most part... setups for next week. (There ARE a few funny lines, of course...) Thanks to Ross Mills for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 16:48:30 UTC)
December 8, 2003 Link to this post Homefront nearing completion Whoa. The Battlefield 1942 mod 'Homefront' (mentioned a few times in our news) is almost ready for release... and it's looking pretty good! There's a 36 mb movie (encoded with XVid) available for download, and some hi-res screenshots, all over at the Homefront site. (Thanks to Ross Mills for pointing it out on our forum.) (Louis Wu 17:02:30 UTC)
December 1, 2003 Link to this post Master Chief... in UT2 Ross Mills found a Master Chief model for Unreal Tournament 2; you can find download links (and a screenshot of the model) in this thread on the Atari forums. His feet look a little funny... but maybe that's just the angle. (Louis Wu 03:19:37 UTC)
November 29, 2003 Link to this post Two weeks... Wonga. Now that the DVDs are done, Red vs Blue is back at work; filming on season 2 has begun, and they're shooting for a mid-December release of episode 20. (They're also hoping to have another Public Service Announcement between now and then.) Thanks to Ross Mills for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 16:02:42 UTC)
November 29, 2003 Link to this post Carol of the Marines Ross Mills has whipped up a short Christmas-themed film for you; only 26 shopping days left! Timing's nice, though it would have been more impressive had there been no need to manipulate pitch... it's 1:21 long, and available in both WMP9 and QT formats (4.8 mb each, you choose). Don't hate him for the suffering he's caused... think of the artistic value. Update: DOH! I thought this was a remake of 'Carol of the BOBs', an older Marathon-based piece... it wasn't. It actually USED Carol of the BOBs as the soundtrack. My bad. (Sorry, Jester!) (Louis Wu 12:05:50 UTC)
November 25, 2003 Link to this post Halo Soundtrack - Rereleased, with goodies Nice find by Ross Mills; there's a Special Edition Halo Soundtrack now for sale, from Sumthing Else Music Works. It comes with a bonus DVD that contains trailers and videos of Halo 2, plus Surround Sound versions of new music. (This is the soundtrack Marty mentioned about a month ago, during a Music 4 Games interview.) Grab it now - Amazon's selling it for $14 (though they say they're not shipping for a month...)! Update: Thanks muchly to Adam Leyland, who points out that the 'Buy' link at Sumthing Else points to the original soundtrack at Amazon.com; it doesn't appear that the new one is available yet. You might want to wait to place that order... (Louis Wu 17:47:15 UTC)
October 30, 2003 Link to this post B.net Alert list set up Some time ago, Deimos Fawkes, over at Subnova, set up a small private monitoring service to notify a few people when Bungie.net posted new content. (Vengeance, a Subnova server, simply watched Bungie.net, and sent out mail - basically a list of headlines - whenever it detected a change.) Yesterday, Ross Mills asked whether this list could be widened - so we've set up a simple mailing list that anyone can subscribe to to get this information. Again - if you subscribe, you'll be notified within 5 minutes of a change in status at Bungie.net. (This means you'll also get mail when Bungie.net goes down.) This does NOT tell you if there's new HBO news, or what the weather is, or ANYTHING else, other than that B.net has been updated. If this interests you, send mail to autoshare@bungie.org with a body that reads 'subscribe bnetalerts' (the link should already do that for you). And if you run into trouble - please let us know. (And if you see Deimos around, thank him!) (Louis Wu 16:57:49 UTC)
October 30, 2003 Link to this post CPL Chat posted around the net A number of sites have put up transcripts of last night's IRC chat on the #CPL channel of Gamesnet with Gearbox, Bungie, and MS - we haven't had time to format our own yet (I wasn't around last night, but I logged it anyway :) ). In the meantime, you can check out Some really good info in there! Update: Oops, missed a couple; Ross Mills posted to our own forum! And so did BOLL... (Louis Wu 09:07:32 UTC)
October 7, 2003 Link to this post Got an opinion on those maps? New poll at Bungie.net: "Which new Halo PC map is your favorite?" Go toss in your two cents! Thanks to Ross Mills for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 17:33:20 UTC)
September 16, 2003 Link to this post Halo 2 screen from X03 Whoa. op_ivy seems to have turned up the first new Halo 2 screen from X03, in France. (This is a big annual trade show.) Gorgeous! (Ross Mills found a larger version at Worthplaying.com... and BOLL found this one (4.8 mb - careful). Whoa. More later. (Louis Wu 22:46:48 UTC)
August 7, 2003 Link to this post Halo Vehicles in a North African desert... Ross Mills pointed out some new screenshots over at the Home Front website (a Halo total conversion for Battlefield 1942 - we mentioned this about a month and a half ago). Models look a bit flat in their desert environments... but that's probably gonna change. Check 'em out! (Louis Wu 18:48:11 UTC)
July 30, 2003 Link to this post More moviemakers turn to FilePlanet Ross Mills has tossed his Halo Rhapsody movie up on FilePlanet. One of these days, I HAVE to get the Movies database brought up-to-date... If you missed this when it was still up at Mythica, here's another chance. (Louis Wu 14:09:29 UTC)
July 14, 2003 Link to this post Chili con carnage? I don't think so. Ross Mills has begun a contest - design a Halo menu, win a cool Halo poster. Rules (and they're somewhat intricate) can be found in this post. You've got two weeks. (Louis Wu 15:58:26 UTC)
July 11, 2003 Link to this post Gamespot says Look! Us too! Continuing the trend of posting 3-month-old screenshots, Gamespot put up 12 new pics yesterday, as well. They've all been seen before - but some of the Prophet variants they put up are larger than any alternatives posted to date. Worth a look, if you're an avid collector. Ross Mills was the first to notice on our forum. (Louis Wu 09:51:43 UTC)
July 7, 2003 Link to this post Screenshots DB updated Thanks to Ross Mills and oddworld18, for reminding us that the Underground Online exclusive Halo PC screenshots we mentioned a couple of weeks ago had not been added to the Screenshots database yet. Oversight rectified. (Louis Wu 01:31:47 UTC)
June 15, 2003 Link to this post Dialogue Transcript Revisited Thursday night, I took the opportunity to fix minor problems with the dialogue transcript for the demo trailer we posted a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to Ross Mills for reminding me to actually POST these fixes. (Louis Wu 14:37:55 UTC)
June 11, 2003 Link to this post blam.bungie.org archives back online! Yesterday, Ross Mills pointed out that the archive of our very early days was offline. A quick email to Aaron Davies, though, fixed the problem - thanks to him, some of our earliest history is now permanently stored right here on this site. Take a walk down memory lane (or see it for the first time, if you haven't been coming to this site for 4 years)! Gah. This reminds me... we missed our 4-year anniversary. :( (Louis Wu 18:24:28 UTC)
