Space: Above and Beyond at Marathon's Story
Marathon's Story has an interesting news item about the similarities between Halo and Fox Broadcasting Network's "Space: Above and Beyond". A one-hour drama about a squadron of brave, first-year Marine Corps fighter pilots whose mission is to stop a race of aliens out to conquer Earth, in the year 2063. Definitely worth a read and a ton of pics too! (Crux Fidelis 14:40:03 UTC) (permalink)

Incite gives hope to PC gamers
Posted on the Core last night... but posted by Myndreach on our forum first: Doug Zartman reassures those who worry about the death of PC gaming in the latest Incite magazine:

"Doug Zartman, spokesman for Bungie Software, maker of Myth and HALO, sums up Bungie's take on the whole thing: "No, we're not [dropping PC games]. Our goal is to increase the number of platforms we support, and adding the various consoles to that mix is and obvious next step for us. But specializing in any one platform would be contrary to everything that Bungie is."

Good news for those not interested in switching platforms! (Thanks, Myndreach.) (Louis Wu 19:35:42 UTC) (permalink)

Analyze THIS! Our Seven Day Poll for this week has generated a lot of interest with close to 800 votes so far. Nearly a quarter of voters played their first Bungie game before the Marathon series and if you add in Marathon the total rises to about 60%. It doesn't take a Hamish to tell you that we have a large number of "old school" Bungie diehard gamers. Good to see that nearly 10%of readers are looking forward to Halo even though they've never played a Bungie game before. Confession time. Updates R us... We've added a couple of shots from the incite movie to the Weapons in Halo section, showing a marine cycling through the Covenant weapons. (Blink and you'll miss it.) The fuel rod gun appears in the same sequence (about 1:56 into the Incite video), but I didn't bother to add it... the second gun is much rarer. Thanks, Brehan and Xero! I've also updated our movies page to include the two remixes made a couple of months ago. What else is the weekend for? (Louis Wu 20:01:28 UTC) (permalink)

Everybody else does it... why not us? Well, maybe because we're lazy. We've added a poll to this page... let us know what you think of the concept! Results will be turned over each Sunday. (Unless your feedback convinces us that NOT polling you is a good idea.) (Louis Wu 18:12:08 UTC) (permalink)

We asked PC Accelerator if we could bring you the new Halo info from their May 2000 issue. We got this reply back from Mike Salmon:

Yes, but I don't want to see a reprint of our article. A few quotes and a general assessment of what we revealed is fine, but scanning in all of the pages and pictures is not.

Sorry, but we want people to buy our magazine and if you guys or someone else just takes all of our content then we're kinda screwed.

thanks, and especially thanks for asking (it is rare).

Seems pretty reasonable to us... sometimes it's hard to remember when you're looking for that next tidbit of info that you might actually be taking away someone's livelihood by printing it. (Louis Wu 14:35:12 UTC) (permalink)

Who's top dog in the Halo SETI Marines? Check the 24 hour stats to see! One wonders how many machines those two top players are using. To Banzif... LA CRUNCH! Pax. (Crux Fidelis 14:17:38 UTC) (permalink)

Yesterday's news, but we liked it so much, we're holding it over. Lots of new info can be found in our Weapons in Halo analysis... and there have already been several very good points made about it on our forum. Weigh in yourself! (The pages are heavy on the graphics. Slow modem users, you've been warned. Hang in there, though... it's worth it.) (Louis Wu 02:23:51 UTC) (permalink)
