Ask the Rookie - a Writing Contest
The Setup
Hey, it's another Domino-Theory-Fueled contest! That guy rocks. Wanna know more about him? Read the FAQ!
The Contest
The prize, this time around, is a Mythic Map Pack code. (Where DOES this guy keep coming up with this stuff?) You need to write a little something to win this one... the question is, "If you could write to The Rookie, what would you tell him?" (The Rookie, as you hopefully know, is the protagonist of Bungie's upcoming Halo 3: ODST game, due out this fall.) You can submit one-liner jokes or serious comments, a comical or serious poem, or a comical or serious letter - it's totally up to you. Just make it interesting. One lucky wordsmith will go home with a set of Mythic Maps.
The Rules
Rules are simple, and pretty common-sense (as usual):
- You can only enter once - once per gamertag, once per email address, once per person.
- All entries must be emailed to contests@bungie.org, from a valid email address where we can contact you if you win. (If you email something other than a contest entry, we will toss it. If you email it to ad different address, we will toss it. Don't be dumb - follow the rules.)
- All entries must be in by 9PM, PST, on Saturday, February 28, 2009. (That's a little less than 2 days from now; you need to write fast.)
- Judging will be done by Domino and friends (and maybe some HBO staff), and winners will be announced on March 2 (or soon after if something blows up). That gives you one entire day to play on these maps before American buyers of the Halo Wars Collectors Edition join you. (Europeans and Asians with that product will already be there.)
- Judging will be based on how well you move Domino. We can't tell you what he's looking for - write something cool, and hope it catches his eye! What you send is up to you. Just like it's up to Domino (and his buddies) whether you win or not.
- The winning entry will win a set of Mythic maps for Halo 3.
- You must own an Xbox 360 with a hard drive, and have an Xbox Live Gold membership, and Halo 3. The prize here is a set of downloadable maps for Halo 3, and you need the Live membership to upload pics. Yeah, I know that sucks for people who'd love to get the maps for offline play - but them's the breaks.
- Per this news post, the winner have one week to respond to contest correspondence; after that, the prize will be awarded to someone else. (If we can't find another suitable entry, we'll simply not award the prize.)
- Prizes will be awarded directly by Domino. No actual software is changing hands.
Prize is courtesy of Domino Theory. Because he rocks. Hassles involved with the contest are the responsibility of bungie.org. Because we love to deal with your problems.
The Finer Print
This next block was written for the first contest - and amazingly, there were STILL people who did what it says not to do. So I'm leaving the relevant paragraph.
This is the part I hate to write, because it makes me feel bad to think folks are too lazy to actually READ the rules to a contest they're entering... but I'm writing it because folks ARE too lazy, for the most part.
If you send your entry to a different email address (like lwu@bungie.org, or halo@bungie.org, or any OTHER address at bungie.org (well, other than contests@bungie.org), or any address at Bungie), or you post your entry on our forum and expect that to suffice as an entry... you ain't gonna win.
