Chris Bryan was one of the very first people to build fan-made Spartan Armor - we documented his work starting back in 2003. (He was building props even earlier.) Yesterday, we heard from him again - looks like Halo 4 has fired up his creative juices! He sent along this screenshot (larger version here), and tells us that he hopes the final product will be finished before November 6! Go Chris! (Louis Wu 14:25:22 UTC)
October 8, 2008 Link to this post The M64D - it's not your dad's magnum.
Chris Bryan was most recently in our news with new content more than three years ago - but his Master Chief suit has inspired many to build their own, and now he's back with shots of a pistol he created. Take a look - great work! (Louis Wu 13:28:18 UTC)
November 7, 2007 Link to this post Marine Armor, and a Rocket Launcher
Joey Rantz created a suit of UNSC Marine armor last year, after being inspired by Chris Bryan's work. Great stuff - go look at the pics! (Louis Wu 20:13:45 UTC)
October 24, 2007 Link to this post Spartan Armor - outfit the whole squad Hawty "eBaying better than you since 1995" McBloggy has written up a guide that lists all the Spartan armor currently available on eBay, just in time for Halloween. (I was interested to see pictures of Chris Bryan's armor and a couple of Nightmare Armor suits, all with identical text from the same seller - a little strange...) If you've left your Halloween planning until now... go look! Update: Be very careful about bidding on any of the items from bells11580 - either the pictures don't actually match the armor, or the auctions themselves are scams. We got mail from Adam Grumbo, whose own armor pics were used in this auction listing - he's pretty clear that whatever's being sold is NOT that armor. Two other auctions (one | two) show Nightmare Armor suits, both of them using pictures displayed here at HBO in the past, and two contain armor from Chris Bryan (one | two), with no evidence that he's actually sold it. Most damning of all (for me) is an auction not mentioned in Hawty McBloggy's roundup, because it's not a full suit, it's just a helmet; the pictures used were taken by me, of a helmet that's currently sitting in front of me. (Here's the newspost that discusses it.) I'd have to agree with the warning posted near the bottom of this auction - you're risking your money if you bid on these puppies. (Hawty's yanked 'em for now - if she receives evidence that they were legitimate, she'll repost them.)

June 25, 2006 Link to this post Trick or Treat, UNSC-style Christopher T is going out for Halloween this year dressed as a Spartan. He and his dad took their inspiration from Chris Bryan, and are putting together a fiberglass suit for Christopher to grab some goodies in. Visit this page for some shots of some cardboard representations! (Louis Wu 22:24:07 UTC)
May 23, 2006 Link to this post Wearable Female Armor Jared Morrison has begun work on a wearable MJOLNIR armor outfit - designed for his sister. He sent us a picture of the underbody of the chestplate, which he plans on fiberglassing down the road. He credits Chris Bryan with inspiration; if there's interest, he'll send along progress reports. Great start! (Louis Wu 12:41:41 UTC)
September 22, 2005 Link to this post Halo 3 - from a fan Chris Bryan finished a short (12 second) hallway scene of wholly original work; the render took 37 hours to complete. ('Wholly original' means he built the Master Chief model himself; he has no tools for extracting the in-game model.) There's no sound, but the video is simply gorgeous - amazing lighting... watch it for yourself. QuickTime format (2.3 mb) | WMP9 format (2.8 mb). (Comments can go in this thread he started last night.) (Louis Wu 13:08:02 UTC)
August 27, 2005 Link to this post Rendered Chief Wow, very cool. Chris Bryan has posted a couple of new renders from his upcoming reel - you can see them here and here. Gorgeous! (Louis Wu 14:53:37 UTC)
July 22, 2005 Link to this post Now that's a good lookin' Chief! Chris Bryan continues his rendering efforts on the Master Chief - you'll find a test render in this post, and another in this one. All I can say is... wow. (Louis Wu 20:31:03 UTC)
June 13, 2005 Link to this post How to build your own MC suit Chris Bryan created a Wearable Master Chief Suit over the course of a year or so. We chronicled the work with pictures - and one of the things this page generated was a whole lot of questions, both for Chris and for us, about HOW this was done. Chris has put together a short tutorial, using the belt as an example - give it a read! (Louis Wu 13:35:11 UTC)
May 17, 2005 Link to this post Now that's just nuts. The Art sections here at HBO have been languishing for FAR too long - I've FINALLY cleared out the Miscellaneous Art queue. Beware - there are 64 entries in today's batch (over 70 if you count variants) - page loading might be rough. I simply didn't see any options; I'm leaving for E3 in two days, and it was now or never. There are tons of sketches, lots of paintings, modeled stuff, photos of real stuff... it's an astoundingly large and varied collection. Look at everything - but don't miss the stuff by Pinkuh, or Paul Davies, or Roger Wilco, or Chris Bryan. (I'm not in any way saying that the only good stuff in this batch came from one of these people. I'm simply saying that with such a huge update, it will be easy to miss things - so these are some to watch out for.) It's really possible I missed something... so if you submitted miscellaneous art in the last month or two, and it's not in this update, go ahead and let us know - we'll look for it. If all goes well, I'll be doing similar update with Wallpaper tomorrow. (Louis Wu 18:59:41 UTC)
May 5, 2005 Link to this post Wieldable SMGs Chris Bryan continues to work on Halo-related pieces - if you check his wearable Master Chief suit page, you'll find a new picture; he's put together a pair of M7/Caseless SMGs that look pretty nice! (He wonders whether he should make 'em shiny, or leave 'em matte... personally, I like 'em the way they are.) (Louis Wu 18:40:02 UTC)
November 16, 2004 Link to this post A year in the making... done! Last week, Chris Bryan finished his labor of love - a self-made Master Chief suit, wearable and gorgeous! I didn't get the pictures up when they came in; I'm sorry about that. They're up now, though - go check out the last 3 steps! He did an amazing job. (Louis Wu 17:45:55 UTC)
October 25, 2004 Link to this post One Man's Journey to a full MC suit A year ago, Chris Bryan began making a Master Chief wearable suit. (This was before anyone had ever heard of Nightmare Armor.) We followed his progress with pictures for several months... and then I began to get backlogged... and I stopped posting them. Chris didn't stop sending them, though, or working on his suit - and I've FINALLY brought the page up-to-date. The first of the non-posted pictures came in on March 27, and they've come steadily ever since. Go check out the progress of this labor of love! (Louis Wu 19:21:35 UTC)
September 27, 2004 Link to this post Countdown: 34 Days Mad Cow points out that he's started work on his own Master Chief suit for Halloween this year. Geez... that reminds me that I've got a BOATLOAD of new pics to post on Chris Bryan's ongoing project page... soon, I hope. (Louis Wu 14:04:18 UTC)
March 7, 2004 Link to this post The Homefront team adds a great artist Wow. Chris Bryan (search for his name in our news, you'll find some pretty cool stuff) has joined the Homefront team (the group bringing Halo to Battlefield 1942) - and his first job is a piece of work! Check out the renders of his newly skinned Warthog in their latest news post. He's looking to start work on the Phantom next. (While you're there, check out the new Plasma Rifle, Patrol Boat, and Blood Gulch Base models, too.) (Louis Wu 13:42:58 UTC)
February 14, 2004 Link to this post Holy Moley - It's Armor Time! I feel really bad, because some of this info has been waiting on ME for over a week now... but sometimes, things just get away from you. We've got a double-armor update for you; Chris Bryan has sent along a bunch of progress pictures of his solo effort (pretty amazing work - works so well with his gun!), and the Nightmare Armor team has put up a new website, with all-new full-body shots of their armor, being worn. Also pretty amazing work! (gotta love those green eyes...) Comments for the Nightmare guys can go in this forum thread, started by Webshift. (Louis Wu 10:24:46 UTC)
January 12, 2004 Link to this post Wearable Suit gets a breastplate Chris Bryan has sent us a few more shots of his wearable MC suit - he's hard at work on the main part of the body. Check out the details (scroll to the bottom of the page; images are added as they come in). (Louis Wu 18:56:14 UTC)
January 5, 2004 Link to this post MC Wearable Suit - now with a helmet We've been chronicling the construction of a wearable Master Chief suit, as created by Chris Bryan. A couple of days ago, he sent along the latest shots; the helmet is finished. What a beautiful paint job! Just scroll to the bottom of the project page to see the latest update. (Louis Wu 10:44:08 UTC)
December 22, 2003 Link to this post MC Suit - update Chris Bryan sent along a picture of the gloves for his MC Suit we mentioned yesterday; they're looking pretty slick! We've added it to the page we put together for this project. (Louis Wu 13:53:46 UTC)
December 21, 2003 Link to this post Master Chief Suits - now from multiple sources! For some time, we've been getting astounding material from Chris Bryan - you can see some of it in our Miscellaneous Art section, and you can check out his working Halo 2 Battle Rifle. For the last couple of months, he's been working on a wearable Master Chief suit, and we've finally gotten around to putting up the pictures he's sent. You can find them in our Miscellaneous section. (As he sends more, we'll add to this page.) I wanted to get this stuff posted, because the interest in this sort of thing is rising rapidly, spurred by a recent post about a group called Nightmare Armor, making full body armor that you'll eventually be able to order. They have a helmet coming in the next few days - but the site is constantly being tweaked (nothing like a bit of interest to inspire the web guys :) ), and Webshift has posted an armor strength tidbit to our forum. I think it's fantastic that there are multiple projects like this going on... a testament to the inspiring force of Halo! (Louis Wu 12:51:59 UTC)
August 10, 2003 Link to this post A homemade MC You folks might remember Chris Bryan. He makes some kickass Halo-related stuff (both in traditional and digital format)... well, he's turned in another impressive tidbit. He's not very happy with this one: I found this little test render here from the animation I did for class. Its really short, and the timing is bad.. I animated this with a 300MHz PC and an old FireGL 1 card that ran Maya at 10-12 FPS on with an empty grid, NO GEOMETRY! With all that negative press, you might think the actual render stinks... you'd be dead wrong. Check it out: 9 seconds long, QT format, 640x480, about 1.3 mb. Wouldn't it be cool to use this system to make a Halo movie? (Louis Wu 14:35:09 UTC)
August 1, 2003 Link to this post Pretty soon, he's gonna model the ring. Life-size. Ack! This came in Monday, but somehow it got lost in the 'cleaning up from vacation' rush. Chris Bryan, who you might remember from his pretty awesome Maya renders in our Miscellaneous Art section, or his Battle Rifle model which would have won him cash had it been submitted to the Pillar of Art contest, has sent in a shot of his latest work - a chameleon red/blue Hunter model (55K). I want one! (Louis Wu 20:25:24 UTC)
July 14, 2003 Link to this post Pics (5) A week ago, Chris Bryan submitted a photograph of a gun he's built - pretty amazing stuff. We've recently received two MORE photos from him - so we've tossed together a small page for this project. Now THAT'S a Halo fanatic. (Louis Wu 06:03:07 UTC)
July 4, 2003 Link to this post And it SHOOTS, too! Wow. A couple of months late for our Pillar of Art contest (gallery showing tomorrow!)... but it's a killer piece of work. Chris Bryan has submitted a picture of a rifle he built; solid wood body, laser sight scope, co2 powered pellet gun - it's even the same scale as the actual 3d gun model! He's now off to work on the suit... (Louis Wu 14:25:17 UTC)
