Xbox Odyssey Tour
TeamXbox has a story about the Xbox "Odyssey" Tour - a 40-city rolling Xbox circus; 50 Xboxes with plasma monitors and giant projection screens. There are a few pics, including one of a Halo game in progress. (Thanks to TomeOne for the heads-up.) (Louis Wu 19:46:18 UTC)

Slayer - you're it
Thanks to a random, 6-month-old thread on the IGN Xbox forum, a new tidbit has come to light - in an interview that IGN Xbox did with John Howard and Joe Staten in April, Joe mentioned a multiplayer mode we haven't heard of before:

I just got done whupping arse in a game of split-screen "Slayer" with some programmer chumps (it's all about over-charging the Covenant Plasma Rifle btw), and I can assure you Halo multiplayer is alive and well and definitely a part of the final product.

Slayer... hmm. Wonder how we all missed that when the interview was first noticed? (Louis Wu 14:30:51 UTC)

Sea of Steel continues

"Ar, hey thar matey. Mission successful. We met up with our marine comrades. We took zero casualties, but I'm afeared I can't say the same for the marines. We're returning to the ship. These boys need some new hardware bad."

The plasma hits the fan as Omniscient sends in Part 8 of his ongoing Sea of Steel. (Count Zero 22:02:21 UTC)

Cyborgs make great bartenders
Mark Levin points out that our favorite cybernetic soldier has appeared on humor site The Conversatron. Mmm... plasma. (Count Zero 17:37:54 UTC)

Fan Fiction section updated

Blossoming open into a surreal starburst of fire and smoke, the blast sent the Wraith wheeling off towards the sea, and its concussion bowled over the Elite and most of the Grunts alongside the tank. Jackals flew into the air, screaming and spinning, discharging their plasma rifles in random directions, before they were lost in the billowing cloud of dust and sand thrown up by the explosion. "SPNKR, get back up!"

Ape Man's latest fan fiction, 'The Mantled Wings of Angels', puts a good chunk of the Halo dev team (and even part of the Phoenix team) into a battle for their lives... check it out in our Fan Fiction section. (Louis Wu 14:50:29 UTC)

Mercenary Halo tactics at ign.com
Hmm. Thanks to Cesar, of MSXbox.com, who pointed out this tidbit over at xbox.ign.com. Seems they grabbed a whole bunch of footage of gameplay during E3 (as did many other people, including us)... and they've converted it all to 3high-res (640x480) quicktime movies, available for download...

...from IGNinsider, their subscription-only website. A one year membership will run you $19.95. There aren't even any samples... so if you choose to spend the 20 bucks, be aware that while you might be getting high quality footage, you might just be getting the same off-the-plasma-display footage the rest of us gave you for free. Details from Gamestar's E3 video
Thanks to an intrepid HBO agent in Germany, we've gotten our hands on the Gamestar CD movie mentioned a few days ago. Now, we can't actually put this movie online yet (to do so would violate Gamestar's copyright), but we can tell you that it contains filmed footage from the first two missions, as do most of the E3 movies. There is a telltale red glow at the bottom of the image, indicating that (like other films) it was recorded off one of the plasma screen displays (they had small halogen lights underneath them, which cast these red glows on the screens themselves). However, the quality is very high, higher than most other stuff out there... and the gameplay is quite good - looks like the player is no novice. There are some interesting tidbits in this film, such as flying Covenant Elites, a look at the newest Covenant race, and a spectacular view of the jeep's undercarriage. We'll make this available as soon as we can - please be patient. (Louis Wu 20:24:41 UTC)

3 gameplay movies at Coremagazine.com
Kudos to Aginor, who noticed that CoreMagazine.com posted a Halo impressions article, complete with movies. They had a bit of trouble with the jeep, but overall loved the game. There are three movies, all filmed with a camcorder off the plasma screens above the gaming rigs. The first two are solo play, the third is multiplay. (The multiplay shows four people obviously getting used to controls... hardly worth watching, except to see how splitscreen works.) The second movie shows the jeep driving in the ocean - you can see that the physics of vehicle/water interactions aren't finished yet. ;) All three films are 6-7 megs, in MPEG format, and showing roughly 30 seconds of gameplay each. Check 'em out! (Louis Wu 22:50:26 UTC)

Halo preview, of sorts, at TotalGames.net
Eldar-colonel, of Halo HQ, writes to point out a new Halo preview over at TotalGames.net. It's a tad short on information - in fact, what little they have is questionable:

For the indoor areas, other more suitable weapons come into play, such as alien blades and plasma-swords.

(And don't forget the foreign cutlasses and the xenolithic falchions.) Pretty amazing what sites'll put up... (Louis Wu 03:30:11 UTC)

Weekly Halo Update Goodness
Matt's weekly Halo Update can be found at Rampancy.net this week - as though we didn't have some idea already how Halo was doing. :) We got names for "here are two people working FULL-TIME on multiplayer" mentioned in the Q&A yesterday - Hardy and Michael - presumably Lebel and Evans, two big names from the Oni team... and we got teasers like this:

Marcus got the lovely gorgeous waterfalls working again and placed a couple of them on the first mission you play after you land on Halo. Of course that will be at dusk and you might be distracted by the enormous structures firing huge bolts of plasma over to the other side of the ring.

Goodness, if that doesn't pique your interest, you should head over to the Tribes 2 sites, or something. Thanks, Matt! Go read the goodness for yourself. (Louis Wu 01:58:07 UTC)

New Screenshot from GameStar
Man, this e3 stuff makes us nuts. Somehow, this never made it to our Screenshots page... but GameStar put up an e3 writeup last week that included an not-seen-before-on-the web shot. Very nice pic of the covenant plasma cannon in action. (This WAS published in their print magazine, but hasn't appeared on the web before, except in bootlegged scans.) We'll catch up soon, we promise!
