Onslaught - A gametype to remember
pete_the_duck informed us of Onslaught, a new gametype he's been working on. It's an Infection variant, where the Zombies are in Mantises, and the Survivors have Railguns. I played this a few nights ago - and it's a blast. (Literally.) There are lots of cool assets to go along with the map/gametype: Hedgemony took a bunch of screenshots (which are, as is the norm with Hedgemony screenshots, simply stunning), CruelLEGACEY whipped up a trailer showing off some great action angles, and pete himself put together an episode of Forge with Pete showing how the game works, and what lengths he went to to ensure that it's fun. I'm here to tell you - it's fun. (Unless someone on your team has a totally broken mic. Then it's not fun. Well... the game is still fun, but you can't really enjoy it.) (Louis Wu 20:46:44 UTC)

The Halo Bulletin, March 13
The Weekly Halo Bulletin went live last night - and there's some interesting info in there! Screenshots from the Castle Map Pack (along with a promo trailer), plus details about 343's presence at PAX East in a week or so, tantalizing info about an upcoming Title Update (Red X's are returning!), and some sweet sniper screenshots. Castle Map Pack Trailer
Halo Waypoint released a trailer for the Castle map pack - the DLC includes three new medium-to large-range maps. Perdition reminds me of the city hub from ODST - cool! Waypoint also posted a screenshot gallery of the new maps. The Castle map pack launches on April 8th. (colindosaj 17:58:41 UTC)

Renegade Taco Is HBO's Next Solo Album

Sins of the Prophets (UNSC Release)
A game called Sins of a Solar Empire (a PC-based real-time strategy space sim) just got a Halo mod - Sins of the Prophets has a new trailer online. Looks pretty amazing! Spartan Ops Returns Soon
As mentioned in the Halo Bulletin a couple of days ago, a press event took place at 343's offices this week to give gaming sites a chance to see a little of the upcoming Spartan Ops episodes. The first few reviews have begun popping up around the net - thanks to mastrbiggy for sending along some NeoGAF links.
- Polygon has a writeup with pictures and a written interview with David Ellis. (Thanks, HyperTrooper and enzo_gt)
- InsideGamingDaily has an interview with David Ellis (thanks, Hypertrooper)
- IGN has a written summary of the second half of Season 1, and a video showing gameplay with a voiceover by David Ellis (thanks, Garrett 2U)

GameTrailers taps Halo 4 for Best Graphics of 2012

2012 VGAs - Now with More Halo
Spike's Video Game Awards were last night - you can watch the entire 2-hour extravaganza on their website now. If your time is limited, here's the key stuff: you can watch the new Spartan Ops trailer by starting at around 1:42:30 (if you care about the intro, or 1:43:10 if you don't). You can also watch it on Kotaku, if you'd rather. Other timestamps worth checking out: 13:45, 38:30. (If you need to save time, we've archived these two bits here and here.) In terms of awards, Halo 4 took home Best Xbox 360 Game and Best Graphics. Not too shabby!

Award Time in Halo Town
It's December, which means awards for a lot of gaming sites. Here's what we've seen in the past day:
- Game Informer's January issue has declared Halo 4 the best Xbox 360 Exclusive, the best Competitive Multiplayer, and the best Shooter for 2012. (It has some killer cover artwork, too, as seen in this NeoGAF thread.) Thanks, TheOddOne.
- GameTrailers has skipped the whole '2012' thing, and put up a list of the Top 10 First Person Shooters of All Time - Halo 3 makes the list at #5. (It's a solid list, this time around.) Thanks, UNKNOWN iXi.
- X-Play voted Halo 4 the Best Shooter of 2012. It was nominated for, but did not win, in three other categories: Best Multiplayer Game (Black Ops 2), Best Multiplayer Co-Op Game (Borderlands 2), and Best Art Direction (Journey). Thanks again, TheOddOne.
- IGN included Halo 4 in its nominees for 2012 Game of the Year.
