Joseph Haake has sent in yet another enhancement of that Halo symbol on the back of the Red Covenant in the E3 trailer (though he says he doesn't "see the point in determining the actual shape of this specific covenant symbol"...). Nice enhancement, in any case, Joseph - thanks! (Louis Wu 00:00:32 UTC)
April 11, 2001 Link to this post Theories section updated Whoa. From symbols strewn around the Halo to speculation on the origins of language, and quantum computing... Mike Sholl weighs in with a concept-heavy theory relating to symbols found in the E3 2000 trailer. Give it a read... then jump in with your thoughts on our forum! (Louis Wu 01:32:34 UTC)
March 21, 2001 Link to this post Oceans of Halo goodness... if you can get it Well, as everyone this side of Katmandu probably already knows, bungie.com and Bungie's Halo site were both updated this evening, and the highlight of the update is a nearly inaccessible new trailer, in two flavors. The big version is 182 MB, the smaller version is 35 MB. Bachus has kindly written up a synopsis for those frustrated by the overwhelmed Microsoft servers... and when mirrors go up, we'll do our best to tell you about them. In the meantime, we've updated our Screenshots section with the two new shots Bungie released... you might find them easier to view here. :) Enjoy! (Louis Wu 04:36:53 UTC)
February 7, 2001 Link to this post new Halo compilation movie available at MPZ fAt1 from MPZ Halo writes to say that he's put together a new Halo compilation movie. A little while ago I cut and pasted together a compelation of the most spectacular Halo clips from the Halo movies released so far, and I divided them up into sections like 'Interiors', 'Exteriors', you get the idea. If you look, you should be able to recognise lots of the e3 trailer, a fair whack of the nVidia promo and a bit of the MacWorld preview.
It's 5.5 MB zipped, in .asf format (you'll need Windows Media Player to view it), and while it doesn't contain new footage, it's a pretty nice composition. Release was delayed by the attempt to get permission to use parts of various movies. Check it out! (Louis Wu 14:03:49 UTC)
January 28, 2001 Link to this post AdCritic's sponsor list incomplete? Halo commercials aren't COMPLETELY ruled out yet - Massa, from Halonetwork.de, writes: I read over at gamestar.de that Paramount is going to show a trailer for their upcoming Tomb Raider movie. I was quite sure that they weren't on the list and so I checked back at superbowl.adcritic.com - I was right, they aren't.
So... if the list at AdCritic isn't complete, then all hope isn't lost yet for a Halo ad. No promises... but we'll know for sure, one way or the other, later today. Thanks, Massa! (Louis Wu 12:13:00 UTC)
December 28, 2000 Link to this post All-natural glitch-free goodness Well, it only took 17 months, but it's finally been confirmed that those little blips in the MWNY 99 Halo trailer WERE natural life, and not glitches in the video - Nathan Bitner, former Halo producer and current head honcho of Island Four Software, stated on our forum Natural life began to appear in the air with the very first trailer...
One can be seen at about 3:11 in the video, behind the Covenant flyer in the blue sky. Pax. (Crux Fidelis 10:05:44 UTC)
October 26, 2000 Link to this post MSN highlights Halo Jeff Campen noticed that the Halo trailer (The E3 2000 movie) holds a place of honor on the MSN WindowsMedia.com Broadband page... It's right up in the top section. (Not new material, but interesting placement.) (Louis Wu 20:51:37 UTC)
October 9, 2000 Link to this post Ultimate Gamer posts some E3 trailer grabs We just got mail from Geert Roete, saying that there are some Halo shots posted at the Dutch site Ultimate Gamer. They're just screen grabs from the E3 movie, though, and the text is very sparse (one sentence), so I'm not really sure what the deal is. You can go look anyway, though... there might be other stuff of interest. Pax. (Crux Fidelis 19:31:07 UTC)
September 11, 2000 Link to this post Antebios has Halo bias (or vice-versa) JosephAW noticed a computer animated short film ('Antebios') highlighted on the SciFi channel. The movie itself is visible on SfiFi.com's website... if you have a Macintosh, Netscape, and a (very) fast connection, the On2 link is pretty astounding. Otherwise, it's available in RealPlayer format. Joseph mentions it because the alien sounds a lot like the Covenant sound in the E3 trailer. (There are other similarities... the humans have projectile weapons, while the alien uses an energy weapon, the doors of the base used by the humans and the hallways in which they walk bear a striking resemblance to the ancient structure highlighted in the Halo movies... the alien (well, the 'good' alien) has hooflike feet, similar to the covenant... and more, if you want to watch it.) The film was made in 1998 by a French designer who (among other things) makes video games. Definitely worth a look, if you're on a fast connection! (Louis Wu 17:16:03 UTC)
August 16, 2000 Link to this post Marty O'Donnell Interview at MacCentral Thanks to TomeOne (via email) and edge (via our forum) for pointing out an interview with Marty O'Donnell at MacCentral. A snippet: MG: What's involved in creating the alien language we hear in the trailer? It certainly manages to sound otherworldly, but also feels like there's dialogue and meaning, as opposed to just cool sounding noise. MOD: Well, for this trailer we were in kind of a rush so the alien language is not necessarily the final content that you'll hear in the actual game. I'm not going to give away all my production secrets, but what you hear was based on the English language and I believe that we will actually try and develop a true alien language for the game. One of the cool things that the trailer shows is that not only will the Covenant have their own language, but they can also speak and understand English, if they need to.
Read the whole thing... as usual, Marty's got a lot to say! (Louis Wu 00:48:44 UTC)
August 3, 2000 Link to this post Marty says narrator is Derek Procell Marty O'Donnell (through Matt Soell) divulges the name of the narrator of the E3 Trailer Teaser - Derek Procell. A quick web search turns up a Country/Folk singer with the right vocal style... nice to put a face to the name! (Louis Wu 08:54:56 UTC)
August 2, 2000 Link to this post CG group in the works Matt Soell, online from Seattle and posting up a storm, confirms on our forum that Joe Staten and Marty O'Donnell will be heading up a new team devoted to making cool cutscenes and trailers. It was only a matter of time... the Halo engine looks fantastic for making gorgeous cutscenes in a fraction of the time that it would take with standard CG techniques. (Kudos to R.net, who picked up on this yesterday.) (Louis Wu 16:55:27 UTC)
July 14, 2000 Link to this post CGI Halo preview, Part 2 online Once again, kudos to edge, who noticed that Computer Games Online has part 2 of their Halo preview, "Bungie dreams of rings and things." As before, the info is quite good, and has some new tidbits; Jason Jones talks about how they decided what would go into the E3 trailer: "We were trying to capture the core elements of both the single-player and multiplayer games such as stealing weapons, assaulting bases, grand vistas, sneak attacksall the things we expect players to do."
There's also a nifty concept drawing of a human boat... first we've seen! edge seems to be working towards the HBO field reporter position... (Louis Wu 18:32:48 UTC)
July 12, 2000 Link to this post E3 trailer dialog transcribed Frederico Giacanelli writes: I'd like to know if someone has written down all the dialogue lines of the E3 movie. While the general plot is quite clear to non-english speakers (as I am), some of the fast-paced phrases are not so intelligible.
Well, Frederico... so far as I know, no one had. So I did. You can find it here. Enjoy! (Louis Wu 04:44:09 UTC)
July 10, 2000 Link to this post TuCows previews E3 trailer Seen at BG:H... TuCows has put up a short review of the E3 trailer... bottom line, they liked it. We've added another link to the Trailer Mirror page. (Louis Wu 02:23:18 UTC)
July 10, 2000 Link to this post Cov needle gun modelled Ian "I can't stop modelling" McConville has pumped out yet another Halo weapon model. This time, it's the Covenant needle gun, first seen in the E3 trailer, and most recently in the August issue of PC Gamer. Check it out! (Louis Wu 01:47:35 UTC)
July 8, 2000 Link to this post New Covenant scans from CGM Fred, of Rampancy Hotline, has upped scans from the August Computer Games Magazine, including a shot of two new Covenant. (One looks like an armored version of the stegosaurus-like creature seen in the E3 trailer.) R.net had some trouble getting them onto their web page... so Chia stepped in and made them available at VistaCartel. Swing by and take a look! Scan quality isn't perfect... but the pics are fascinating! (Louis Wu 01:57:38 UTC)
July 4, 2000 Link to this post More trailer grabs at SpieleCity Picky draws our attention to another Halo review, this time at SpieleCity, a German gaming site. This one contains quite a large number of screenshots from the E3 trailer, so if you're having trouble stomaching the huge download, this is worth a look. (Louis Wu 22:41:44 UTC)
July 4, 2000 Link to this post Cutting the Edge looks at the trailer The folks at Cutting the Edge have put together a nice two-page analysis of the E3 Trailer, pointing out the good and bad points along the way. Well-done job, all around. Definitely worth a look. (Louis Wu 01:57:32 UTC)
July 3, 2000 Link to this post E3 Trailer Mirror list expanded Massa writes to tell us that Halo Network has put up a surprisingly high quality 30 MB .asf version of the E3 trailer for those who can't manage the 160 meg version. We've added it to our full e3 trailer mirror list. (Louis Wu 21:39:07 UTC)
June 28, 2000 Link to this post Halo thumbs not taken from E3 trailer Jeremy Roush comments upon the Halo thumbs we posted yesterday: Just so ya know... neither thumb is from the trailer shown at E3, as the Green Marine is never among the other troops in such a fashion. He snipes the aliens in the opening shots, and then reappears to save the lone surviving Bob in the final few shots. He never appears in any shot with the jeep.
Thanks Jeremy. (Ding 07:45:46 UTC)
June 27, 2000 Link to this post Close, but no cee-gar That Wirehead has sharp eyes. He noticed that the thumbnail included in last week's PC Gamer buyout analysis was close, but not the same as, the thumbnail included in last month's Newsweek article. Seems both groups had access to the base material (probably the E3 trailer). Here's the two shots, for you to compare on your own: | | Newsweek, May 29 | PC Gamer, June 19 |
Soon, we hope to see the entire trailer! (Louis Wu 13:00:41 UTC)
June 15, 2000 Link to this post Halo Characters section update The Characters section in our FAQ has been up updated to reflect the new info from the Halo movie trailer. If you've got comments/suggestions about the FAQ please send them to halofaq@bungie.org. Thanks. (Crux Fidelis 16:55:17 UTC)
June 15, 2000 Link to this post Screen Grabs of Teaser available Matt Martinez writes to let us know that for those of you on a slower connection, there's now an alternative to the multi-meg movies for getting your Halo fix. He's snapped 35 screenshots from the trailer for you to drool over. Go check 'em out! (Louis Wu 02:30:23 UTC)
June 15, 2000 Link to this post PC Gamer named as US Trailer distributor Oops, we missed this... thanks to R.net for noticing. The Daily Radar Teaser page specifies that it's PC Gamer that will have the E3 Trailer on its cover CD, ending speculation about which gaming mag would host the US version. (Louis Wu 02:25:42 UTC)
