It's happening again. :( Recently we had two movies submitted to us (different submitters) containing interesting gameplay clips put to music. They're very different - one focuses on a Master Chief who can't drive, is in .wmv format, is almost 9 minutes long, and weighs in at 14 megs, the other focuses on what happens when plasma grenades and warthogs get together, is in .mpeg format, is almost 5 minutes long, and weighs in at almost 50 megs - but they have the same problem - they need a home, and neither one meets our Movie Posting Guidelines. The Halo 2 trailer is on the horizon, some other very promising pieces are coming soon, and some of our biggest bandwidth donors are facing troubles of their own... bandwidth is really, really tight. :( If anyone wants to help out with either of the files mentioned above, let us know - we'll send 'em off to you, and post a link (and our grateful thanks). If anyone has a large, unused bandwidth pipe that they are just aching to fill-drop us a line, we'll set up a movie mirror, and thousands of Halo fans will love you. (Louis Wu 16:42:14 UTC)
August 14, 2002 Link to this post More Trailer Info For those of you who just can't wait to actually SEE the Halo 2 trailer, Gamers.com has put up a transcript of it. Thanks to andrew katz for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 13:34:31 UTC)
August 13, 2002 Link to this post Server status Not everyone can tell yet... but HBO is back online, after a short outage yesterday, at a new home. Hopefully, DNS will propagate fast enough that by the time the Halo 2 trailer is released, folks can find us. Moral of the story - buy your bandwidth from nice people. (Louis Wu 09:17:15 UTC)
August 8, 2002 Link to this post Trailer description at GameSpot For those who can't wait for the Halo 2 Trailer, GameSpot has put up a synopsis of what you'll see. You also get a taste of the Halo 2 story - here's a snippet of it: As the Master Chief enters the hangar, it is revealed that his spacecraft is orbiting Earth--and that Earth is under heavy fire from Covenant warships. The Covenant are the enemy race from the original Halo game, and it seems that they have found the human homeworld and are seeking to destroy it outright. Therefore, the Master Chief's new mission is clear: defend Earth and save humankind. Thanks to Nijhazer for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 17:43:12 UTC)
July 9, 2002 Link to this post To watch, or not to watch... Culture comes to HBO - The Master Chief stars in Hamlet, a new movie trailer by Warbow. (A cookie to anyone who can tell where Blackstar helped out...) This one gets the HBO Seal of Approval. You'll find it at Mythica.org (where else?). 4 megs, in QT5 format - check it out! (Louis Wu 02:04:02 UTC)
May 20, 2002 Link to this post Halo 2 'trailer' a hoax Bungie doesn't normally get in the middle of rumor mongering... but this one was pretty big. Raelgun pointed out a forum thread over at Team Xbox which purported to describe a trailer for 'Halo 2' to be shown at E3 this week. Dave Candland jumped onto our forum to succinctly confirm that this is an 'OBVIOUS TOTAL LIE'. If there is any Halo-related info at E3, we'll be sure to bring it to you... but this ain't it. (Louis Wu 16:49:00 UTC)
April 23, 2002 Link to this post Movies - they're EVERYWHERE! Movie Madness!! Not one, but TWO new movies have been released - Brian Josselyn, of Blackstar Productions, has created his THIRD Halo Movie teaser (this one's large-format, and very emotional); you can find it at his site, as well as mirrored at mythica.org... and a team composed of Bluespam, Tarrsk, and OSX2000 (all HBO forum visitors) have put together an intriguing piece which shows a pair of players finishing PoA... with no weapons! This one is also at mythica.org, and on hotline, at the Psyjnir Complex, as well. The movie trailer is 16.6 mb, the PoA runthrough is 11 mb. Go pick 'em both up, and watch almost 30 megs of Halo goodness! (Louis Wu 00:02:36 UTC)
April 19, 2002 Link to this post Japanese Halo commercials New Halo commercials at Xbox.jp - 4 of 'em, ranging from hilarious to... um, confusing. All in .asx streaming format. There are also two larger files on that page - the new trailer mentioned yesterday, and the one posted back in February. Thanks to op_ivy for the heads-up. Update: These commercials have been added to the Movies database. (Louis Wu 12:55:14 UTC)
April 18, 2002 Link to this post New Japanese Halo trailer Microsoft's Japanese Xbox site has a new Halo trailer (Windows Media Player format, High Bandwidth only). Nothing new for seasoned Halo movie watchers but some nice gameplay nevertheless. Warning: it may contain a spoiler for those who haven't played Halo. Pax. (Crux Fidelis 04:00:51 UTC)
April 8, 2002 Link to this post Another killer Halo movie trailer When Brian Josselyn, of Blackstar Productions, released 'Halo: The Movie', a 'trailer' of a ficticious Halo movie, Bungie employee Dave Candland asked, "Want a job at MS marketing? ;)" He was kidding... but Brian's most recent production, 'Halo: The Movie Teaser', shows it wasn't a fluke. If Bungie ever DOES make this movie, the advertising work is well underway. :) You can find this latest movie (1:34, 10.6 mb, QT5) at Brian's mac.com space, or at mythica.org (with perpetual thanks to Brian Towne). We'll set up a mirror page as soon as a few folks volunteer to help with this puppy (hint, hint). Check it out - you won't regret the download. ObSpoilerWarning: There are minor spoilers here, though nothing as strong as the first one. (Which we forgot to warn you of. Sorry...) Finally, Brian has also put together a newsletter to give people some more information about what he does - you can find it here. (Louis Wu 03:30:44 UTC)
April 2, 2002 Link to this post You okay? Okay, enough with the hate mail - here's the dang movie. (There are at least 2 more mirrors coming soon, and quite possibly a couple of other formats/sizes for the film - so if you have trouble with a 27 mb .mov, be patient.) This is Brian Josselyn's nod to Final Fantasy... and to Halo as a cinematic spectacle. It's good. It's very, very good. Watch it. (It's only 2 minutes... it's a 'movie trailer'.) The mirror list currently contains 3 websites and 2 hotline servers - we'll add new ones as we get 'em. Update: Thanks to Reaper7, of Battleground: Halo, who just sent along the FilePlanet URL for this movie - it adds two public server links and two Personal Server links. (It's been added to the mirror list.) More still coming! (Louis Wu 19:17:45 UTC)
April 2, 2002 Link to this post Halo: The Movie (it COULD be...) Brian Josselyn, of Blackstar Productions, has created a new Halo vid - it's a trailer for Halo, the Movie. (Okay, it's a trailer for Aliens, mostly - but let's not nitpick.) Masterful use of existing Halo footage (including some fantastic inclusions from older stuff), topnotch moviemaking skills, and high-quality sound make this a film to see. Downside? It's sorta big. 27 megs big, to be exact. This is one we want a few mirrors for before it goes live. Mythica.org is a given... but so as not to crush Brian's connection, if you can manage this puppy, drop us a line, we'll get you a copy. Once the mirror list is big enough, we'll let you know where to grab it from. Update: CYBRFRK points out that it's not Aliens... it's Final Fantasy. Oops... (Louis Wu 09:25:01 UTC)
March 20, 2002 Link to this post Musical goodies available again A week ago, Team Xbox posted a package full of goodies, including a WMP Halo skin, a copy of the Halo trailer, and 3 never-before-released (on the net) Halo tracks... in WMP format. Total package size: 4.6 mb. It's already gone off their servers. :( Because the music tracks were so cool, I made room for them in some overflow space we have at mac.com... but I couldn't fit the whole package. Vector40, abusing the stupidity of a provider he's doing his best to get rid of, has agreed to host the entire package, if you're interested in the skin and the trailer, as well. The music tracks alone, at mac.com, are 2 megs. The full package of goodies, no longer available from TXB, is 4.6 megs. Download away! (Louis Wu 03:26:33 UTC)
November 5, 2001 Link to this post First Halo Commercial at AdReview Wow. Thanks to Mike Flacy, who was the first to send us word of the first Halo ad - it's linked to this column, which tears into gamers as a bunch of 'absolute freakin' morons'. Don't mind the insults - watch the trailer. It's tiny, and in streaming Real format... but it's pretty astounding. (There's already a decent-sized thread on our forum about it...) (Louis Wu 23:07:44 UTC)
October 26, 2001 Link to this post Halo IS on OXM DVD Now this is interesting. Several subscribers have reported that there was no Halo trailer on the December 2001 Official Xbox Magazine DVD... but greatdayne27, over at the TeamXbox forums, says it's just a little harder to find: While they are not in the trailers section if you watch the special feature "The Xbox difference" with Seamus Blackley you will see several nice, new clips of the afformentioned titles. They are really sharp and vibrant. I was disappointed in the trailers on the dvd it seems as they were rushed and are lacking punch that I have seen on mpegs.
('titles' refers to Halo and Oddworld.) Very nice - anyone want to describe these clips? (Louis Wu 15:24:38 UTC)
October 14, 2001 Link to this post New Halo movie at Gamespot Thanks to vein13, who pointed out a new movie at Gamespot. (It's the Halo Trailer 1 - Direct-Feed entry on their Media Index.) It seems to be an extended version of the IGN movie mentioned yesterday. It's available as a downloadable wmv file, a downloadable mpeg, or streamed .asf formats (in several speeds). It's 320x240, and just under a minute long... and it has some very nice footage. There are a couple of points brought up in this post, and this one... I'll probably be putting up a screen capture page in the near future. Check it out! (Louis Wu 18:20:33 UTC)
October 4, 2001 Link to this post Gamespot pics are OLD Before we get MORE mail about it - it seems that Gamespot has updated their Halo screenshots recently (yesterday, actually)... but all the new shots are OLD. There are some from October 1999... others that are screen captures from the E3 2000 movie... they're ALL old. (Interestingly enough, the screen grabs from E3 2001, listed as having been posted May 18, have some very nice shots in the collection... The fun stuff starts on page 4, and runs through the top of page 7.) (Louis Wu 09:29:42 UTC)
October 4, 2001 Link to this post More mirrors for the TeamXbox movie Seems we missed a source for the TeamXbox movie yesterday - you can find another two mirrors of the 20 MB mpeg at 3D Gamers. Thanks, Frans! (Louis Wu 00:05:33 UTC)
September 21, 2001 Link to this post TeamXbox Trailer mirror update TeamXbox trailer mirror update: The files (both the .asf and the .mpg) seem to have disappeared from thecorpse.com... but The Junkyard moves in to fill the void. Ryan 'Mhaddy' Matthews writes to say that the .mpg version is now available on the Junkyard's Downloads page. Thanks, Mhaddy! Update: Silly person that I am, I mistyped the URL to thecorpse.com's mirror page - it's up and running, and has been all day. My mistake - there are more sources than ever for these movies! (Louis Wu 03:06:23 UTC)
September 20, 2001 Link to this post Another mpeg mirror If you haven't been able to get the mpeg version of TeamXbox's movie from either TeamXbox's site or from FunkyJ's Hotline server, the good folks at thecorpse.com have added a mirror of it on the page we mentioned this morning. We'll be putting up full mirror lists for this, and the interview movie, sometime today. (Louis Wu 16:34:57 UTC)
September 20, 2001 Link to this post Mirrors for the TeamXbox footage A couple of mirrors have popped up for the .asf version of the TeamXbox video: Both versions are 8 meg zipped files. Additionally, FunkyJ has mirrored the 19.4 meg MPEG version on his Hotline server (details in this post)... the original, astoundingly, is still on TeamXbox's site, as well. This one (in either format) is DEFINITELY worth the download, folks. (Louis Wu 08:56:37 UTC)
September 16, 2001 Link to this post Joe goes to sleep Joe Staten jumped into a discussion of 'the Schwartzenegger shot' to expound on Matt's 'cinematics are done' comment in this week's update, and to suggest that Hopefully we'll be able to give you an abbreviated taste of what's in store (i.e. a new trailer) sometime soon. Certainly before Halo is on the shelves, a date that really isn't that far off.
(He also took the opportunity to put me in my place, movie-history-wise.) We're looking forward to the new footage! (Hopefully in a more universally-accessible format...) (Louis Wu 04:51:44 UTC)
June 27, 2001 Link to this post Ambient life: soon, maybe Apparently, the ambient life seen in the E3 trailer is not currently in Halo. Matt Soell stopped into our forum to pass along this note in answer to the question about whether ambient life would be present in Halo: Ambient life is still on the To-Do list, and it's not that far down either.
I can't guarantee it will be in the game (not yet anyway) for all the usual reasons. But I can say we still plan on doing it.
Sounds positive, but noncommittal... sort of like my first girlfriend. I hope Matt doesn't turn out to be as psychotic as she was... (Louis Wu 00:31:46 UTC)
May 22, 2001 Link to this post Oldie but goodie redone in Real Thanks to XNOR, of HaloPlayers, who mentioned (on our forum) that the Tritin Films remake of the original Halo trailer (dated now, but still very fun to watch) has been redone in Real format. The filesize on the .rm version is 7 megs - less than a quarter of the original .mpg. If you've never seen this (we added the original Tritin version in January, 2000), you might want to grab it. (Our Movies page still contains a link to the original mpeg version.) (Louis Wu 08:59:31 UTC)
May 12, 2001 Link to this post Halo on CNBC Australia Eldar-colonel sends word that CNBC Australia ran a piece recently about cheap computer prices, on the technology news program E-Generation. During the piece, the E3 2000 trailer was showing on a whole series of screens for about 30 seconds. Nice product placement! (Louis Wu 10:08:19 UTC)
