A video submitted by Kusho to the MPRRS, entitled 'Trailer Trash', passed last night - it tells the story of 4 contestants, each with a movie trailer they're proud of, in a game show in which the winner takes all... and the losers die. Almost 12 minutes long, available in both WMP9 format (112 mb) or QuickTime format (102 mb) - go watch! (Louis Wu 17:03:03 UTC)
October 12, 2006 Link to this post It's Chris the Hippie Day at H3F Over at Halo3Forum.com, where the quest to solve Chris the Hippie's mystery is reaching new heights, Z has posted an older trailer CtH made but never had hosted. It's definitely all about the editing - gameplay is an afterthought. However... the editing is quite nice. Check it out (and maybe get involved in the puzzle!). (Louis Wu 22:06:11 UTC)
October 5, 2006 Link to this post Game Trailers Leading Next Generation has posted an article about how important trailers have become to the marketing of videogames - as they are for the marketing of movies. Halo 3 is held up as a prime example of how to do it right. Thanks, LegendaryMark. (Louis Wu 17:37:15 UTC)
October 5, 2006 Link to this post Do it this way. GamePro posted a design doc for Halo 3, detailing the things THEY'D like to see in the upcoming shooter. Check back next year to see how Bungie did at satisfying them. (You can also read this at GameTrailers.com (sort of - each page is a separate news entry) - thanks, Oscar. (Louis Wu 14:17:51 UTC)
October 4, 2006 Link to this post The Rescue Over at HaloGrid, imSuck put together 'The Rescue', a webcomic that uses screenshots from the Halo Wars trailer and his own very internet brand of humor. lolz. (Louis Wu 12:40:23 UTC)
October 4, 2006 Link to this post Narc to the Rescue Narcogen has noticed that a lot of people are reacting in not-so-rational ways to Halo Wars; recently, he's done his best to dispel some of the worst reasoning. You can find some great arguments about the handling of the Halogen project in this thread (try here, here, and here), and over at Rampancy.net, he's written up an entire article on the Battle Rifle Debate ("how come the Spartans in the Halo Wars trailer are using a gun that showed up in Halo 2, even though HW is supposed to take place before Halo 1?"). I have very few illusions that his arguments will actually sway the most rabid of naysayers... but for folks who haven't really been paying attention that closely, his writing should give you a decent, relatively unbiased view of the situation(s). (Louis Wu 12:28:57 UTC)
October 4, 2006 Link to this post Halo 2 Vista vids at GameTrailers At GameTrailers.com, you'll find a pair of new Halo 2 Vista gameplay trailers (in regular and HD), recorded at X06. (Look for the October 3 content.) As with previous H2Vista gameplay vids, it's clear that folks aren't used to the controls yet; there's a lot of standing in one place going on. However, you should get a decent sense for how the game looks, compared to the Xbox version. Chrisvioxxx was first with the news. (Louis Wu 12:12:53 UTC)
October 2, 2006 Link to this post HW Remix Geoff Chang edited the Halo Wars trailer and set it to music from the movie 'The Island'. Works pretty well! (Louis Wu 20:02:54 UTC)
October 2, 2006 Link to this post Spartan Group OMG. Since last week's announcement about Halo Wars, our forum has been rife with discussion about what this might mean for fans down the road - the usual cries of 'sellout!' and 'doom, despair' have been flying for days. Folks are even annoyed by the cheesiness of the final line of the Halo Wars trailer, and basing predictions about the game itself on this annoyance. Stuntmutt, as usual, cuts through the words and delivers a pithy summary - check out today's One One Se7en. (Louis Wu 16:24:25 UTC)
October 1, 2006 Link to this post OMGLOLWTFBBQ! Montage Trailer EphruM sent the trailer to his OMGLOLWTFBBQ! montage along to the MPRRS; they loved it. Great kills, great synching, great editing. Shorter than most montages (but then, it's a trailer) - 2:40, 34 mb in WMP9 format, 36.2 mb in QuickTime format. (Louis Wu 23:10:04 UTC)
September 30, 2006 Link to this post H:P has HW Gawd, quick one I forgot from days ago, my bad. Funkmon pointed out on Wednesday night that Halo: Portable had posted mobile-ready versions of the Halo Wars trailer... I MEANT to post it, but spaced. If you need a copy for your PSP/Pocket PC/iPod, go by now! And that's all from me for a while, folks... (Louis Wu 14:09:51 UTC)
September 29, 2006 Link to this post Static (Teaser) Dennis Powers stopped by to point out a teaser for Static, a new series from Halo CE Chronicles. Film style of the teaser is reminiscent of the Halo 3 trailer, and hints at a darker storyline than earlier HCEC work. Stay tuned! (Louis Wu 12:38:54 UTC)
September 28, 2006 Link to this post Unused Halo 2 Animation Clip I'm not sure how good an idea this is, but... BARBARIC RAGE stumbled across the portfolio of the Treanor Brothers, a 3D Animation and Cinematics company - apparently, they created a a 10 second web trailer for the launch of the Halo 2 website back in 2004. As far as I know, it was never used - but it's pretty cool! Take a look. Update: Tempus Fugit says I'm wrong - he remembers seeing it. (Louis Wu 20:17:17 UTC)
September 27, 2006 Link to this post Halo Wars Trailer in QT There have been a number of requests for a QuickTime version of the Halo Wars trailer; I doubt there'll be one coming from Ensemble, so I whipped one up myself. It's not the full 720p version - but it's still bigger than the low-res 360p they've made available - it's 480p (852x480), and it weighs in at 24 mb. Grab a copy today if WMP9 sets your teeth on edge. (Louis Wu 22:00:37 UTC)
September 27, 2006 Link to this post Halo Wars and Wingnut - Details Wow. Tons more info on Halo Wars and the new Peter Jackson project is now available at Bungie.net - go read! (There was an amazing trailer shown at the end of the X06 press conference, of Halo Wars - this should almost certainly be available for download soon, from Halowars.com.) Update: It's up now - in three resolutions. GO DOWNLOAD! (Louis Wu 18:19:02 UTC)
September 24, 2006 Link to this post More to see than can ever be seen. Wonga. Someone synched the song 'Circle of Life', from the Lion King, to the video from the Halo 3 trailer. The amazing part... it works! Go watch at YouTube. Thanks, Retsof-Noraa, for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 21:33:04 UTC)
September 20, 2006 Link to this post Halo 3 Nostalgia Trailer Justin Durban sent us word of a 'Nostalgia Trailer' edited by HolmesG. - which uses Justin's music as the soundtrack. It's a nice piece of work, and quite short - so we're hosting copies here (WMP9 | QuickTime) - 7 mb each. Give it a watching! (Louis Wu 15:14:44 UTC)
September 11, 2006 Link to this post Species Episode 1 - Finally Several months ago, a movie was submitted to the MPRRS - but the submitters stated in the description of their movie that they had a higher-resolution version they wanted to use if the movie passed. It DID pass, and we sent them a note, asking for that higher-res version. After a few days went by, we tried again. No response, either time. After the second attempt, things got busy - and the movie totally slipped off the radar. Until last week. The submitters - the MjR37 Team - sent along an email, explaining that a drive crash killed all their existing high-res work, which is why we never heard from them. They're working on HD versions of FUTURE episodes of this series, however, and asked us if we'd be willing to point out the website to the Halo community at large. Of course we would - this is a vid that passed the MPRRS, after all! The series is known as 'Species', and all episodes to date can be found on this page. You should start with Episode One, though - that's what was submitted to the MPRRS, and it's what we're hosting. (Save their bandwidth - use ours; we've got both QuickTime format - 44.4 mb - and WMP9 format - 41.2 mb.) It's called 'Where the End Begins', and it looks at a team of soldiers who are suddenly faced with an alien invasion. Great use of mods. If you like the series, they've got Episode Two, as well as a trailer for Episode Three, up for download. Fun stuff, all around! (Louis Wu 20:02:34 UTC)
September 2, 2006 Link to this post Virus Of Life 2 trailer SpartanHunter69 submitted a trailer for his upcoming Virus of Live 2 vid - the MPRRS said 'yea', so here you go. It's quite small - a minute and a half, under 7 mb in either WMP9 or QuickTime formats - watch it and gear up for the actual story! (Louis Wu 18:58:31 UTC)
August 29, 2006 Link to this post City of Evil Trailer Clearview Pro sent along a trailer for an upcoming movie called 'City of Evil'. It didn't pass the MPRRS - mostly because more than one reviewer apparently felt that trailers aren't worth releasing, that machinima makers should focus on making movies, not trailers. It missed a passing grade by the slimmest of margins, and that particular rationale seems like a weak reason to fail a film... so I'm hosting it anyway. It does a nice job with modded content - if the final film is as nicely put together as the trailer, this should be a winner! 1:41 long, you can grab it in WMP9 format (19.1 mb) or QuickTime format (20.3 mb). (For anyone keeping track, the footage could be construed as having Halo spoilers in it.) (Louis Wu 12:27:52 UTC)
August 27, 2006 Link to this post Boredom Begets... well, Stuff. Heh - Psychophan7 created a nearly 3 mb animated gif by tweaking a small subset of the Halo 3 trailer footage - pointless, but fun. Warning - open this in a relatively robust browser; some can't handle 3 mb gifs. (Firefox works nicely.) (Louis Wu 23:13:40 UTC)
August 20, 2006 Link to this post Splinter Cell: Crisis - Trailer AnubisUK wrote to let us know of a new trailer being hosted by Broken Console Productions - it was created by Silent Fisher, one of their clan members, and it's for a movie entitled 'Splinter Cell: Crisis'. Sam Fisher is now wearing MC armor, and creeping around Zanzibar... 28 mb, WMP9 format. (Louis Wu 13:40:15 UTC)
August 18, 2006 Link to this post River Styx Two: RAGNAROK You might remember River Styx, a bit of machinima created by Elnea and OboeCrazy which has the distinction of being the first project to integrate Halo, The Sims 2, and World of Warcraft into one (relatively) seamless whole. Well, they're back - and this time, River Styx Two is even MORE integrated. Check out the movie poster (214k). If you have a Red vs Blue account, you can read Elnea's description of the process here, and OboeCrazy's comments here - but the general gist is that they captured footage in all three games, using a few tricks to make their lives easier down the road - and then that footage was composited in Motion 2 to produce the downloads available below. It's funny, it's well-produced, and it's innovative - you need to download this! (Before I forget - it's a trailer, but not of a movie that will ever be produced. It's a trailer, because Elnea and OboeCrazy felt that trailers contain all the good parts, anyway.) It's 640x480, in WMP9 (37.2 mb), QuickTime (37.5 mb), or DivX 39.5 mb) formats, hosted here... you can also grab the DivX and WMP9 versions on OboeCrazy's site, and Elnea's hosting an iPod version (26 mb). What are you waiting for? (Louis Wu 14:22:31 UTC)
August 18, 2006 Link to this post Halo 3 2 2 Trailer Speedhuntr noticed a new Flash animation at Newgrounds - it's a trailer for an upcoming series episode. Artwork, as Speedhuntr notes, is quite good. (Action is a bit gorey... but that's par for the course with Newgrounds Flash, no?) (Louis Wu 12:24:12 UTC)
August 17, 2006 Link to this post HGN Reviewed at Gametrailers Capt 0bvious noticed that Gametrailers has a video review of the Halo Graphic Novel (Thanks, Mr.Cynical); it's chock-full of spoilers, so don't watch this unless you've read the HGN already. Nicely put together! (Louis Wu 12:36:39 UTC)
