Museum Delivers
Wow. The press for the 'Museum' ad is simply amazing. Joystiq says "we're not sure if we've ever been so moved by a Halo commercial". Ars Technica says it's "stunning". Be A Design Group says it goes way beyond marketing to gamers - It's "emotionally bigger, and almost too big at that" than Halo. I'd agree - with all of these. It's a very powerful piece, and one that has much wider appeal than a game-specific ad. 2OpGaming (thanks, Avateur) and GamesIndustry.biz both have informational articles about the piece itself, that go into greater detail than the simple page at Yahoo. There's also a nice description over at Xbox.com's Believe page - thanks again, Avateur. If you haven't watched this one yet, do so. And show it to your non-Halo-playing friends/family, and see what their reaction is. Update: Hmm... maybe it isn't ALL positive. Delta found this commentary at Canada's National Post - you can't please everyone. Update 2: GhaleonEB pointed out that the full press release (visible at Gamerscoreblog, Kotaku, 2OpGaming) contains a new campaign shot (local mirror). (Louis Wu 19:48:13 UTC)

Another Top 5 List
GameTrailers has put up a new GT Countdown: 'Top Five Reasons We Can't Wait to Play Halo 3'. Our forumgoers had a few things to say about some of the wording - but I can't really argue with the list. Thanks, chewpathingy. (Louis Wu 18:53:57 UTC)

Halo 3 on Game Head
Game Head did some filming at the Massachusetts Projekt Revolution event in late August - Halo 3 was played there, and the cameras were rolling. (Footage shown by itself seems to be taken straight from the Beta - but I don't know if that's what was playing in the background.) Thanks, chewpathingy. (Louis Wu 13:02:53 UTC)

No cash, no hard copy - you can work out trailers and stuff later. Get your work in there! The deadline's tomorrow, the 8th. (Louis Wu 12:51:50 UTC)

Trinity Trailer
The Praetoria Guard has released a trailer for Trinity, an upcoming machinima series. There is, in fact, an entire website devoted to the series. Swing by, read about it, and then download the trailer from the Downloads page - I have to say, it looks promising! (Louis Wu 16:01:58 UTC)

Combat, Part 1
A high-quality version of the second Neill Blomkamp/WETA short is now online at halo3.msn.com - it'll be up on Marketplace tomorrow. Not only is this not shakeycam, but it actually ends properly - absolutely worth the watch. Thanks, Red_Breast. (According to black asgard, it's available on GameVideos, as well. Might be a better choice for those who want a downloadable QT version - though the GV version is 640x360, vs 832x480 for the msn version.) Update 2: Google News tells me it's at GameTrailers, too. WMV is even 720p. (Louis Wu 20:13:48 UTC)

The Invasion Trailer Contest
Adam Kovic let us know that Machinima.com is running another contest - this one requires that you put together a machinima version of the official "Invasion" movie trailer using supplied audio and graphics, mixed with your own game footage. As of right now, there are two submissions (one using the Sims, the other using modeled footage) - the field's wide open, and the grand prize is a cool $1000. You've got until September 3 - get cracking! Halo seems like a perfect vehicle. (Louis Wu 21:33:56 UTC)

Halo Maps releases Church - and a lot more
A couple of weeks ago, we pointed out a trailer for Church, a Halo CE map that looked pretty impressive. It's been released - swing by HaloMaps.org to download it. (While you're there, take some time and look around; over 100 maps and almost 70 modified levels have been added to the archives in July and August alone, with more than 170 tutorials and assets for mapmaking.) Mile Wide Club.
Today's One One Se7en takes a look at a Halo 3 change to the Brutes, as shown in the E3 trailer. Here's hoping some of those brutes can FIND that Stuntmutt character and give him what he deserves for the pun. (As for the rest of the news for today - I'm POSITIVE there's material in the forum that should be front-paged... but I'm indisposed for the next 8-10 hours. It's gonna have to wait. Sorry.) 2160 AD Trailer
ODST Epsilon stopped by our forum recently to point out a trailer for a new machinima series, '2160 AD'. It focuses on a section of Halo canon that's only been mentioned a little bit - they're trying to stay true to the info that's out there, while still making an entertaining movie. The trailer suggests they've got an interesting project on their hands. If you'd rather watch it on YouTube than via the download link he put in to his post, you can do that. Fathom (A Taste)
On July 16, we put up an odd picture. Two days later, we did it again. (Different picture.) Well, they were both teasers for Fathom, a new Machinima project from some heavy hitters in the machinima community - SodaGod, BlackouTT, Jamie98s, FantasyCubed. You can find a variety of download links in the HaloGrid announce thread. I've also encoded a local QT version, 30 mb, that's not on that page (yet). BlackouTT says this isn't a trailer - but I'm not sure what else you'd call it; it sets up the series. Maybe a prologue? Mysterious, with great filming, great audio, great effects - very well done piece of work. Go watch it. (Louis Wu 14:22:46 UTC)

Halo has a few cinematic moments, says GS
Gamespy has posted a Top 25 Video Game Cinematic Moments article - theHalo Wars trailer came in 25th, the Halo E3 2000 demo nabbed 22nd, the Halo 2 'Riding the Pickle' cutscene fell in at 19th, and the Halo 3 CG commercial was at 17th. Nothing above that, unfortunately. Thanks, Stephen Edgar. Update: Morpheus points out that we already covered this, 3 months ago. Oops! (Louis Wu 13:06:19 UTC)

Calling For Back Up.
One of the scenes we caught of glimpse of in the recent Halo 3 E3 Trailer was of Cortana, collapsing in front of the Chief. Luckily, the Chief isn't quite as clueless as the hero of One One Se7en... (Louis Wu 19:55:39 UTC)
