The Talking Sketch
Looks like Brian Jarrard was pretty busy this past week - in addition to the interview vid at Gamespot we mentioned a couple of days ago, and the one at IGN that was findable (but not explicitly mentioned in our news), there's a THIRD interview about the new material, this time over at 1UP.com. (This one's text-based, not in video format.) There's some intriguing info in there - check out the details on banning, the info on playlist changes to avoid obnoxious situations, the discussion about what happened to the needler (and the promised, but unrealized, changes). This interview is actually page 2 of 1UP's article - page one is an intro to the maps themselves. Thanks (yet again), 3Suns. (Louis Wu 14:14:39 UTC)

The Needler Songs
A week ago, Bonekin visited our forum with a link to a hilarious sendup of a Christina Aguilera song, called 'Beautiful Needler'. Took a little while to track down the author... but today, unableelephant found the Gamespot journal of Archie Gates, the song's creator - and it turns out there isn't just one, but TWO Needler songs. The second one is a takeoff of Simon and Garfunkel's Sound of Silence, and it's fantastic! We've gotten permission to host both; you can find them here

The ending of Sound of Needler is laugh-out-loud funny. Go listen! (Louis Wu 18:09:55 UTC)

DLC Screenshots
Don't forget - it was mentioned in the WWU, but in case you missed it, there are new screenshots available showing the first four levels of DLC in Bungie's Screenshots section. We'll be adding them to our own section in the not-too-distant future. I can't wait to play Needler Warlock... (Louis Wu 18:33:49 UTC)

Need a gun?
New item in the Joyride arsenal - the Armory Series 1 Weapon Battle Pack. Rocket launcher, shotgun, sniper rifle, MD6 pistol, plasma pistol, and needler are all included - the pack retails for $9.95. If you're ordering, you might want to drop in your requests for the first round of Halo 2 figures; they start shipping in about 3 weeks. (Louis Wu 19:50:06 UTC)

New Leyk Character Profiles
Tina Leyk continues to make Character Profile sheets for players; there are two new ones on her Fan Art page here. Dre'al looks like someone you DON'T wanna mess with... but Peeps, you could take home and feed Kibbles to. Well, except for the needler. (Louis Wu 13:09:28 UTC)

New screens at B.net
The Bungie crew is back in Redmond, and they've managed to post another pair of new screenshots; a large version of the second leaked screen found last week, and an entirely new dual-needler first-person shot (with a great view of the energy sword). Unfortunately, there's no HUD to see. Check 'em out! First notice came to us from KenshinHimora000. (Louis Wu 00:32:39 UTC)

The Best Of The Bestiary
Hokey Smokes! Apparently, Frankie has gone insane and is actually providing official story information on the Covenant over on Bungie.Net. Godlike Forerunner! Engineers in trances! Jackal snipers! With needlers! Gah! Thanks to MC Vince, for noticing the story in the first place. (mnemesis 04:38:03 UTC)

Dial back those imaginations...
Yesterday's Weekly Update contained a comment that has set several Halo forums atwitter:

[...] the way the Elites reload now is almost too much detail.

Lest too many people assume this means that in Halo 2, Covenant weapons (which, for the most part, are NOT reloaded by Covenant in Halo) will require reloading, Frankie stepped into our forum to clarify that he was talking about needlers (which reload in Halo, as well). Sorry, guys! (Louis Wu 20:19:46 UTC)

Weekly WHAT?
Hehe - isn't it always that way? This week, the Bungie Weekly Update is right here at HBO... and I'm too busy playing Death Island CTF on Homelan_HBO_East to get it posted. OUCH! Go read it - it's full of tasty morsels about dual needlers, glass shaders on the Pelican, and flank-forcing. Rockin'! (Louis Wu 01:26:54 UTC)

Content, Content, Content
The Bungie Weekly Update this week went to... well, Bungie. (NEPOTISM!) You can find Frankie's musings on the Underground, Bungie's very own public forum. It's short - but it's tasty. The tidbit on realism on 'an Earth level' left me drooling for actual gameplay... the bit about Jaime fine-tuning Enemy AI got me intrigued, and the bit about Marty had me laughing. And oh, yeah, the Mister Chief artwork hits new edges of quality. And if the update weren't enough, there's also (finally) a new, hi-res screenshot, the one that's been floating around the net for a couple of weeks in illicit magazine scans. All the arguments about 'is that really a needler?' and 'wait, who's falling?' and the like seem rather silly now, with a 1600x1200 reference piece to look at... what? You're still here? Why aren't you at Bungie.net, reading? (Louis Wu 00:56:30 UTC)

Random Halo Homage
Da Loaph discovered an interesting little page; it's a part of the Oddlots Irregulars website, and it pays tribute to Halo. There are a couple of comics on the page, as well as a couple of custom gametypes (downloadable, even). Take a look! Update: It's now 2005, and Oddlots has changed its site layout dramatically; that page no longer exists. The two images do, though: Cortana | MC. If the day comes when they're no longer hosted there, you can find them here: Cortana | MC. (Louis Wu 17:01:52 UTC)

Where's my needler?
For those who like to see dead bodies - SketchFactor decided I needed a little comeuppance. (Louis Wu 20:14:41 UTC)

Gamitopia says 'Eh.'
Gamitopia reviewed Halo last week - and were unimpressed. While I'm loathe to sneer at Halo criticism for fear of being seen as an overbiased fanboi, the reviewer picked some of the silliest things to complain about:

When you move onto each successive chapter of Halo, you'll restart with Marine guns, regardless of what you ended the previous chapter with. Once, after battling my way out of an end of chapter fortress with a needler and a rocket launcher, I nearly had a heart attack when the next chapter, which started right where the last left off, started me off with the crappy pistol and machine gun from the beginning of the game. I didn't play for days after that one, and it happened all too often.

Other complaints included too-low ammo-carrying limits, too-few-gun carrying limits, bad driving controls, and a tired storyline. Overall, they rated it 81%. We've added it to our Reviews database. Thanks to Blue's News for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 13:33:46 UTC)

Don't throw away that needler...
Skeletor had to crow this morning - he tells a fun gameplay story on our forum. No spoilers... but he did come up with something interesting. In many reviews, people have disparaged the Covenant Needler as a useless weapon... but Skeletor discovered an extremely valuable aspect to it; if you can keep the targeting reticule focused on a single victim, the needler can take down a fully-shielded Elite on Legendary in a single clip. Thanks, Skeletor! (Louis Wu 15:07:22 UTC)
