July 29, 2009 Link to this post Brian Jarrard talks to GT
Gametrailers filmed an interview with Bungie's Brian Jarrard at Comic-Con last week - he summarizes pretty much everything that's known about ODST at this point, but there's some nice gameplay footage happening next to him while he talks. Worth a watch. Thanks, Kibbles. (Louis Wu 14:29:26 UTC)
July 24, 2009 Link to this post Halo Legends, Waypoint revealed A quick link roundup relating to yesterday's Halo panel discussion at the San Diego Comic-Con: - The event was live-blogged by IGN and G4TV (thanks, 2900d4u)
- The trailer that showed on GTTV last night is now available online on GameTrailers (and elsewhere, of course, but since they're all stealing it from GT, I'm just linking to the original)
- There's Firefight play footage from the Microsoft booth at YouTube and GameVideos (thanks, Kibbles)
- NeoGAF's Voltron64 wrote up his experiences of the day
- If you log into Xbox LIVE, and visit the 'Inside Xbox' section, the current 'Major's Minute' feature has Major Nelson interviewing Frank O'Connor about both Halo Legends and Waypoint - a nice 60-second overview of the pair. (Thanks, Domino Theory.)
Our forum is chock-full of discussion about the Legends trailer, Waypoint, and the future of the Halo franchise. Funniest exchange of the night: Jayshum posted an image that summed up his (negative) feelings... and Frankie replied, Frank-style. Update: Gah, I totally forgot to include the multi-day coverage from Teabag Prevention's Jake108! Swing by and see what he has to offer. (Louis Wu 13:01:29 UTC)

July 23, 2009 Link to this post Halo Legends - Anime Shorts The Los Angeles Times has a story this morning about the blending of the roles of Hollywood and the game industry - and it reveals some of the material to be announced at the San Diego Comic-Con later today: Microsoft is producing seven short films titled "Halo Legends" in the anime style. Five production houses in Japan are handling the physical animation, but Microsoft's creative staff is approving major visual and storytelling decisions, O'Connor said. You can swing by this LA Times blog post for more details on the project, and a couple of examples of the artwork involved. (The post also confirms that the rumored internal name of the studio, '343 Industries', is indeed accurate.) There's no word yet on when these videos will be shown... or where. Look for much more information to be released later today! (Looks like resplendentvole found this at Kotaku earlier this morning. Our forum seems to be cautiously optimistic, though there is definitely some hatred for anime.) Update: There's an official press release that contains quite a bit more info about the entire project - who's involved, how the distribution will happen, and more. There are also details about a new LIVE feature: A preview of select "Halo Legends" episodes will first debut on Xbox LIVE, the largest gaming and entertainment network in the world, starting this fall through a new experience called Halo Waypoint. Launching in fall, Halo Waypoint will be a new destination for "Halo" fans on Xbox LIVE around the world. It will inform fans of the latest "Halo" news and activities, and grant access to content ranging from podcasts, trailers and screenshots, to exclusive video footage you won't find anywhere else. It also will provide a new challenge for "Halo" gamers with a career system and player rankings tied to both in-game and out-of-game accomplishments related to "Halo." In addition to the limited, early episode premieres, Halo Waypoint will debut several behind-the-scenes videos that chronicle the making of "Halo Legends." Look for more info about Waypoint later today, as well! (Louis Wu 12:07:27 UTC)
July 21, 2009 Link to this post One Life Remaining: Season 1 Episode 1 JonCGJ released a trailer for a new machinima series a couple of weeks ago - but we didn't hear about it until this morning, when urk posted a link to the first episode of the series on Bungie.net. Anthony Heitzmann graduates high school... I guess teenage angst isn't one of of the things that gets solved between now and the 26th century. (Louis Wu 16:32:17 UTC)

The article contains a nice summary of what we know about Reach from all sources (books, games, trailers), and picks apart the trailer for as much detail as can be found. (Did you notice the drifting Spartan behind the damaged UNSC frigate?) Go check it out! (Louis Wu 13:18:57 UTC)

June 3, 2009 Link to this post New ODST Gameplay at GameTrailers
The More Deluded noticed three new gameplay vids at GameTrailers - two campaign walkthroughs, and a walkthrough of ODST's new Firefight Co-op mode. You can get a great sense for how it works (and what the folks playing it at E3 this week are seeing). Swing by and watch! (Don't feel too bad about missing the Campaign stuff - that is NOT being shown on the floor, you have to be a bigwig to get that.) (Louis Wu 16:31:59 UTC)
June 2, 2009 Link to this post Bungie.net - Opening the Content Floodgates
There's a MONSTER FLOOD of content at Bungie.net - let's see if I can delineate it all before the HBO day ends: If you missed any of this over the course of the day (sorry, I was walking the floor of E3, and the number of unlocked wireless networks available inside South Hall is... less than one) - go check it out now! (Louis Wu 23:33:21 UTC)
June 1, 2009 Link to this post Halo 3: ODST/Halo: Reach - a summary of the day
As almost everyone reading this by now already knows, Bungie had two rather hefty reveals at the Microsoft Press Briefing today - the first was a gameplay demonstration of Halo 3: ODST (followed by a boatload of information released on Bungie.net), the second was a heretofore-unknown game, Halo: Reach (this weekend's title leak doesn't really count). Things worth knowing about Halo 3: ODST: - Release date is September 22
- lots of versions of the new trailer can be found at Bungie.net
- Lots of new screenshots can be found at Bungie.net (poring over them will reveal all sorts of tidbits about the game - our forum is having fun)
- a handful of QuickTime VR 3D vids (and a hint of more to come) are available at Bungie.net
- Lots of new info about the game (including a new mode, Firefight, an invite to the Halo: Reach Beta for purchasers, an unlockable for pre-orderers, and more) can be picked over
(There's a new forum on Bungie.net devoted to the game, too.) If you missed the Joe Staten-supplied gameplay during the briefing itself, you can watch it at IGN (thanks, BlueNinja). And oh, yeah, there's a new Dashboard theme on Xbox LIVE. Moving along to Halo: Reach: - You can watch the trailer on Bungie.net (or download it in a lot of flavors)
- It'll be out in 2010
- It's Bungie-driven
- It's got Elites
- I'm SURE there are more tidbits to be gleaned - dive into our forums and see what people have come up with!
News might be light tomorrow - I'm traveling out to E3, and am NOT equipped to report from the show floor - but anything more we discover will be posted in due time. Go enjoy what's out already! (Louis Wu 23:00:03 UTC)
May 31, 2009 Link to this post ODST Speculation Runs Wild
Halopedia's CaptainTony was the first to notice that the a cast photo for Halo 3: ODST was visible on the set of the GameTrailers TV vid (shown Thursday night) - and the first to point out another pic that showed the last ODST off to the left. (Kotaku picked up on this on Saturday evening, almost 36 hours later... but they were just grabbing the pretty shot from Geoff Keighley's Twitter feed.) Interesting speculation in the thread about who's who... I'm guessing we'll know more, for sure, this week! (Louis Wu 00:29:45 UTC)
May 29, 2009 Link to this post Tricia Helfer to perform in Halo 3: ODST Gametrailers TV debuted their E3 First Look show last night on Spike TV (thanks, LoneRanger 2.5), but you can watch it online at this point. Halo news revealed in this episode: Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer (shows up at 22:55) will be voicing a character known as 'Dare' in Halo 3: ODST. (This Bungie.net article from last fall suggests that Dare is the ONI Captain in charge of the Rookie's squad.) Nice! (Louis Wu 14:38:15 UTC)

ScrewAttack put together a list of the Top 10 Video Game Punks. (They didn't actually call them 'punks', actually, but we'll let you watch it for yourself.) Our favorite methane-breathing Covenant minion makes the list. Probably not safe for work, for language. Thanks, MffnMn. (Louis Wu 12:31:04 UTC)
