Wednesday Comic Update
Yay! It's Wednesday, so there are a bunch of Halo Comics to tell you about!
- Fried Cookie789 told urk about 2501 Episode 37 - Not Much Luck.
- Dennis Powers sent word of Shipwrecked Episode 62 - A Drive in the Park (I'd have shot it).
- Elnea posted Halo Action Figure Theater 168 - Jinx. I'm not sure what's going on any more.
- Adam Susskind stopped in with word of Chaos Theory Ep. 18: Mysteries Exposed - and the longest monologue since Shakespearean times.
- Bloogyo reminded us that he's looking for jokes for upcoming Rat's Nest episodes - and also announced Episode 8 5.
- Hawty McBloggy sent word of ODS Steve 21: Rock, Paper, Needler. Hope that map's not made of paper.
- TTL Demag0gue let us know about Reclaimer 174 - Duck-and-Cover... it looks like Portent is still a little screwy.

Halo 3 MythBusters: Episode 2
RandomSauce let us know that his second 'MythBusters' video, a project he does with TURRET BUDDY, is now up on YouTube. As was true last time, there are some pretty interesting tidbits, and watching it might teach you something cool! (It should be noted that not all of the research is accurate; for example, they claim that you cannot stick a plasma and frag grenade together in midair... but there are plenty of vids like this one out there suggesting that's not true.) Go watch - I found the clip showing someone killing a Spartan by FIRING A NEEDLER THROUGH AN ELITE'S NECK to be worth the price of admission. Update: RandomSauce let us know that at least in the video I used as a counterexample, the two grenades merged while one was still in the thrower's hand - changing the rules. If anybody's got an example of a plasma and a frag connecting in mid-air (after both grenades have left their throwers' hands), let us know. Until then, we have no legitimate counterexample for this particular 'bust'! (Louis Wu 16:13:03 UTC)

Plush Covenant

Achievement Unlocked
Archie Gates, the guy behind the Needler songs, has kicked off a new project; he's writing songs about games, and the first one out of the box is called 'Achievement Unlocked'. It's not really Halo-related, but most Halo players will be able to relate - it's pretty darned funny! It's available for free, streaming off his MySpace webpage - but if you, like me, have trouble with the stuttering that comes from MySpace streams, it's downloadable, in high-quality MP3 format, for just a buck. Halo Grunts - Animation
This morning, we got word from Shaun Escayg, who was involved in an animation project over at CGSociety.org. The short video he pointed us to (5 seconds, about 6 mb) was fantastic - but I didn't want them to suffer from a bandwidth hit if we front-paged this, so we're making the video available here (with Shaun's permission, of course). Feel free to toss your two cents into that thread at CGS... but grab the video from us. (It's available in its original H.264-encoded QuickTime (5.5 mb), as well as a Sorenson3-encoded QuickTime (3.9 mb) and a WMP9 version (5.7 mb).) It's not long, and it has no sound - but the grunts are GORGEOUS. Model was done by Ben Falcone, animation by Shaun Escayg, and rigging by Mikkel Grosland (with Anna Terekhova supplying the Needler model). Amazing work. Grab a copy! (Louis Wu 19:31:37 UTC)

OH SHEETS HE'S GOT A NEEDLER
This week's Halo 3 Humpday wasn't really a challenge - it was a 3-player game between SketchFactor, Frankie, and KP. What makes it interesting is that since High Ground has been described in detail (including concept artwork showing layout) by EGM and others, the writeup goes into minute detail about the game. Energy Sword for Sale
DHalo noticed an Energy Sword available for purchase on eBay - starting bid is $230, and the auction has 5 days to run. This is the same guy who makes needlers with real crystal (we've mentioned him before) - he's also the guy who won a thousand dollars for his Spartan costume last week. Check it out! Beautiful Needler - the Video
A year ago, Archie Gates started creating Needler songs over at Gamespot. (Unfortunately, his profile is now private, so I can't link you there.) He's since created 4 (search our news) - and just recently, imSuck, of HollywoodHalo, submitted 'Beautiful Needler', a music video based on the first Needler song, to the MPRRS. The reviewers loved it. Go grab a copy. WMP9 version is 43.2 mb, QuickTime version is 41.9 mb. Awesome, classic song, perfectly synched to Halo action. Christina would be proud. Dual-Thumbstick Virtual Keyboards?
Evil Otto dropped by our forum today, and in the midst of a discussion on Needler-wielding Sentinels and their presence in Halo 2, mentioned an interview he did for Macromedia on using Director to prototype the UI in the game. It's a great article with a bunch of cool info in it, including a demo movie made to present one version of the UI to the rest of the development team. See if you can spot some names in the movie. Needler for Auction
A couple of weeks ago, we mentioned an auction on eBay in which someone was selling crystals for a fan-made needler. Bungie mentioned it, as well, and pointed out that had he been trying to sell the needler, he might have run into trouble. The needles sold for $60 (well below what they cost the seller)... and now, he's actually selling a needler. Starting bid is $185 (none made yet), with 5 days left on the auction. Needler Crystals
Wow. Someone built a needler - and is selling the crystals for it on eBay. Pretty cool-looking! Thanks to BARBARIC RAGE, who pointed out the listing on eBay.co.uk - but it's on the US version, as well. Currently at about $60, with a day and a half left in the auction. (Louis Wu 18:14:44 UTC)

Pinker Than A Baby's Bum
You might remember Archie Gates - he's a Gamespot user who has created a number of songs dedicated to the beauty and grace of the Needler. He's done it again - a couple of days ago, he posted Needler Song 4, 'Don't Know Why (It's My Favorite Gun)'. Norah Jones might take issue with it... but everyone else should find it hilarious. The Needler Walk
