Reach-themed car for Forza 3 VIP's
Just after the release of Halo: Reach, Turn 10 Studios made an announcement in their Weekly Blog about a custom Reach-themed car that would be sent out to Forza 3 VIP's. A couple of weeks ago, they made good on that promise. If you play Forza 3 but have ignored it lately for obvious reasons, go look to see if you have a new ride!

Reach Windows 7 Theme Pack

Halo Typography
Hedgemony noticed an artsy Halo-themed image that you can buy on a lot of surfaces - t-shirts, laptop skins, canvas. Interesting! (Some of our forumgoers were unhappy with typos and misquotes.)

Sing it, baby!
Cody Miller has been outspoken about his unhappiness with Reach's story. He's now taken that dissatisfaction to a new level - in song. Story Ain't Deep would make Mark Knopfler cringe, but is pretty funny. His Nirvana parody, 'Smells Like Retcon', is less successful, mostly because Cody confuses 'grunge' for 'drunk'. And Hawaiian Pig gets in on the action with his Firefly theme, repurposed (extra points for playing the music himself!). (reprobate wanted to play, too - he didn't record his version, it's just lyrics, and he's not taking the same shots at the Reach story... but it's a decent effort nonetheless. Extra Credits: Videogame Music

Optical Overload and Halo
Free Weights pointed out a couple of recent Halo-themed strips from Optical Overload - pretty funny! If you go back through the strip's several-month history, you'll find a number of Halo-related strips. (The archive listing helpfully tells you what games are involved in each strip.)

What's Coming This Week
The Great Britain version of Xbox.com has posted a calendar for the coming week's launch festivities - Go read it for stuff to look forward to. Broad Strokes and Universal Themes
Creativity Online has an article about the Remember Reach campaign, and a 3-minute video telling the story of some Reach residents affected by the invasion. It's the first of a series of videos (we saw a 30 second teaser last week), and the story it tells is intriguing... thanks, ElzarTheBam and CYBRFRK. Update: dogcom got some email with links for posters and wallpapers, and a downloadable version of the video. Beautiful!

Halo CE Updates (and some UT3 news too)
We got a bunch of Halo CE news updates yesterday - let's see... Dontu told us about a mod he's created called Halo CE Duel Edition. It focuses on melee combat, with a medieval theme (there are fireballs, as well). This thread talks about the mod on Halomaps.org, with another one at Modacity. The pack consists of Tower, Crag, Pit, Zendicon and Ruin, and there's even an instructional video showing off the Dodge feature.) Dennis Powers, who ALSO wrote to us about Duel Edition, suggested a look at a couple of other maps, in addition to DE - Ambry Ce by Newbkilla and Desert Assault by ~JEPR~. And he even pointed out an Unreal Tournament 3 mod of Halo Infinity, by Bret_Hart (video is here, and discussion thread is here). (Louis Wu 12:35:49 UTC)

So Bungie made it clear that there wouldn't be any new maps coming, or Xbox LIVE Dashboard Themes, or gamerpics, or any of that stuff. Sketch even made it clear that they needed to outsource the actual product, because the studio didn't have the time to give it the love it deserved. Are your expectations low enough? Go download 'Deja View'... you won't be disappointed. Congrats to EVERYONE involved; there is so much goodness embedded in 5 minutes that you may have trouble picking up all the clever tidbits by yourself. What do YOU see? (Louis Wu 13:02:48 UTC)

Yes, it's true. I'm jealous.
mnemesis was actually AT the Reach event last night - and while he didn't get any video footage or screenshots, there's a writeup on our forum. Firefight details, Halo-themed drinks, celebrity spottings, a new combat dialogue actor identified... it's worth a read! (Louis Wu 12:10:53 UTC)
