If They Like It Then They Might Just Put a Ring On It
With the announcement of Microsoft's acquisition of the Gears of War franchise from Epic, Polygon thought it fit to provide an opinion on how they feel that Halo 4 laid the blueprint for the next generation of Gears of War. It's an interesting read regarding the evolution of both series', and how the way Microsoft has handled one might clue us in to how they might handle the other. Check it out! It is! No, it isn't! Yes, it is!
So when Halo for Xbox One was announced at E3 this year, Microsoft was quick to clarify that this was not Halo 5 - it was Halo for Xbox One. Unfortunately, Axis Animation, the group that made the trailer, didn't get the memo - a couple of days ago, they posted a copy of the trailer on their Facebook page that actually had a 'Halo Five' logo at the end of it. The original Vimeo video has been made private, but if you read the Facebook comments, you'll find a link to an Italian gaming site with a copy. Sometimes you have to just shake your head... thanks to Overdoziz at NeoGAF for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 23:21:34 UTC)

Halo 3 not free in July, after all
At the Microsoft E3 Press Conference, the 'Games with Gold' program was announced - two titles would be made free for XBL Gold members every month. The rumor had been that Halo 3 would be one of the two July titles... but when Major Nelson announced that the first July title was Defense Grid: The Awakening, so many people asked what had happened to Halo 3 that he tweeted this yesterday:

FAQ: "Halo 3" and "Assassin's Creed II" were mentioned as part of the program - no date was given for their release

I guess we'll keep our eyes open! (Louis Wu 20:47:08 UTC)

I Know a Guy Who Knows a Guy
gamerguy2002 dropped by the forum to share a picture that shows off a few logos of some unannounced and announced games. Among the logos is a Halo symbol with the number five in the middle as well as the recently announced Spartan Assault game - looks pretty fake to me. According to gamerguy2002, this picture was circulating BEFORE the announcement of Spartan Assault. I guess we'll find out in a few days, for now this story gets the official rumor stamp.
