August 7, 2002 Link to this post Another Halo Mini-Game A little while ago, we posted a small Halo game created by a fan - now we've got another one for you. This one was created by Drew and Taylor (Lion on our forums), and the object is to simply shoot (click on) the grunts and elites floating around the screen. Grunts are 2 points, Elites are 5. Hit a Master Chief, though, you lose 5. PC-only, and 733k zipped. Enjoy! (Louis Wu 15:44:13 UTC)
July 26, 2002 Link to this post Up to our eyeballs... Friday's Fiction Flood: Today, we'd also like to point out a link to a fan fiction piece over at Zenith - Uriel's 'Beyond the Paradise'. Worth a read - and when it's finished, we'll get a copy too. (Louis Wu 16:03:44 UTC)

July 21, 2002 Link to this post Lots to read - last for a bit The Fan Fiction just doesn't stop - here's the stuff that's been building while we've been out of town at Macworld: - Halo 2: Jupiter, chapter 1, by Chi Zhang
- Ascendant, part 7, by Archangel's Blade
- The Mis-adventures of master chief, part 1, by el_halo_diablo
- The saviours of man, part 1, by Shadow_hunter117
- Rise To Honor, part 10, by Shadow
- The Return of the Archons, by Wado
- The Brethren of Saturn, Epilogue, by Lynnada
- Rogue Enemies, part 3 and The Lost Spartan, part 8, by Spartan415
- The New Reach Campaigns, by Gasmask
There were some mixups this time around - mostly owing to my very erratic schedule this past week. Halo 2: Jupiter has already had chapter 2 posted - because I missed chapter 1. You might want to read the whole thing as a series, for continuity. Also, Ascendant, part 7, actually came in over a week ago - it got lost in the inbox. Enjoy this batch - I'm out of town for a few days, starting tomorrow, and it's unclear if stuff coming in before Wednesday will be posted by one of the others. Please be patient! July 12, 2002 Link to this post July OXM vids posted Thanks once again to Team Overkill, who provided copies of the Halo-related videos on the July OXM DVD - the top 3 Top Plays were Halo stunts, and they made a movie called 'Dreams of Master Chief' (a spoof on Warthog Jumping, with stunt footage by Randy Glass himself). The films are 2.2 mb and 21 mb, respectively, and in QuickTime 5 format. We needed to wait until the issue was off the shelves before we could post these. (Count Zero 02:17:54 UTC)
July 9, 2002 Link to this post To watch, or not to watch... Culture comes to HBO - The Master Chief stars in Hamlet, a new movie trailer by Warbow. (A cookie to anyone who can tell where Blackstar helped out...) This one gets the HBO Seal of Approval. You'll find it at Mythica.org (where else?). 4 megs, in QT5 format - check it out! (Louis Wu 02:04:02 UTC)
June 26, 2002 Link to this post The evolution of a sketch Apologies for the delay - a few days ago, we received a sketch of the Master Chief... along with a series of images showing how the final product came about. You can find this image (and its evolution) in our Miscellaneous Art section. Interesting! (Louis Wu 20:58:47 UTC)
June 22, 2002 Link to this post MC Skin for Tribes 2 CENOBITE has created a Master Chief skin (in three sizes; the 'Light' size looks most like the Halo Master Chief) for Tribes 2. You can see what it looks like here, and download it from the Skinner's Guild. (You'll need to registerÖit's freeÖto download, so if there's enough demand (and if it's okay with CENOBITE), we'll host a copy here, too.) Update: CENOBITE has no problem with our hosting the file - so if you don't want to register at the Skinner's Guild, you can grab a zipped version here. (Okay, it's not technically HEREÖwe've put it into Mythica's mirror spaceÖbut the point is, you don't need to fill any forms out to get it.) The Skinner's Guild is still a great source of info and advice, though - if you have any questions, that's the place to head. (Louis Wu 13:48:00 UTC)
May 18, 2002 Link to this post Two new 7th Column Themes out Bungie's Seventh Column site has news of two new themes for use by chapters - a Master Chief theme created by Stosh, and a Tru7h theme created by Jonah Friedman. I picked a random pair of chapters sporting these themes - you can see the MC theme on The Elite Enforcers' site (they're a central Florida team offering $200 if anyone can beat them on both Blood Gulch and Sidewinder), and the Tru7h theme is in use for the Central Florida Halo chapter, another CF team headed up by forum regular PCDestroyer. Check 'em out! (Louis Wu 11:19:57 UTC)
May 8, 2002 Link to this post Spidey vs MC? Heh - Gamespy has put up a new Grudge Match on their front page; Spider-Man vs. Master Chief - who wins? Currently, Spidey's whuppin' the TAR out of MC... go see if you can change that. (Thanks to Darth Paul for the heads-up.) (Louis Wu 01:44:12 UTC)

March 21, 2002 Link to this post Maybe it should have been 'donut' The Halo plot hole defined by this quote from Truth and Reconciliation: While the Covenant had us locked up in here, I overheard the guards talking about this ring world. They call it... "Halo." has been discussed extensively on our forum. (Why could Keyes understand what the guards were saying when the super-duper translator in our own suit can't even do that?) However, Master Chief IV used this line to ask an even better question - why, if Keyes is just now learning what the Covenant call this ring, does the screen behind him on the bridge of the Pillar of Autumn ALSO call it 'Halo'? (Yes, it's just a game. Bungie makes few enough mistakes like this, though, that it's worth pointing them out when they DO happen.) (Louis Wu 10:39:02 UTC)
March 19, 2002 Link to this post What some people won't do... Heh - TitaniumPez caught the Master Chief... um... well, watch the show (144k). (Louis Wu 10:14:26 UTC)
March 12, 2002 Link to this post Funky Halo pic in London Sunday Times On page 49 of this week's London Sunday Times is an article on gaming consoles - and the picture they chose to use was the Master Chief... wielding a flamethrower! Rather odd, given that it's been known that the flamethrower was pulled in development over 4 months ago... If there are any UK Halo fans who have access to the Sunday Times, a scan of this article would be much appreciated. (Thanks to Hamish Sinclair, stuck in low-tech no-scanner-land, for the heads-up.) (Louis Wu 22:09:11 UTC)
March 12, 2002 Link to this post Stuttgart's in trouble The Master Chief and Cortana... back on Earth. Jehkoh drops off a new fanfic entitled 'Order of the Seraphim', which looks at battle on Earth, post-halo. You'll find it in our Fan Fiction section. (Louis Wu 12:22:07 UTC)
March 10, 2002 Link to this post New Fan Fiction rules Later today (or possibly tonight) there'll be a large Fan Fiction update - there have been a number of submissions over the past day or two. However, I'd like to make a new policy - or at least codify a current, unofficial policy, so that submitters know what to expect. A Fan Fiction submission, unless it is poetry or a novelty item, must be a minimum length for acceptance. Since some submitters can't seem to deal with a vague description like 'long enough', we're putting a word-count minimum on submissions - items of less than 500 words will not be posted. In the Halo inbox right now are two submissions of fewer than 100 words, both ending with 'to be continued' - here's my advice: continue them before you submit. We don't like to reject submissions - of ANY type, from fan fiction to artwork to videos... but "The master chief is cool. The end." does nothing but dilute the value of the entire Fan Fiction section. If you're writing in chapter format... write two chapters, combine them into one submission, and THEN submit. I hope this helps both submitters, and readers. (Louis Wu 15:27:02 UTC)
March 5, 2002 Link to this post The Master Chief, outlined covenant dropped off a pair of sketches of the Master Chief - MCHangin and MCLoungin have been combined into MCPosin, and posted to our Miscellaneous Art section. Nice linework! (Louis Wu 10:03:17 UTC)
March 4, 2002 Link to this post Literary sources revealed Hmm... Marty knows how to spill those beans... From the Question and Answer database of the Marty's Army fanclub at the Seventh Column: Q What are the meanings/histories behind all the names in Halo? 343 Guilty Spark? Pillar of Autumn? Truth & Reconciliation?
A Marty the Elder says: 343 Guilty Spark is from Ender's Game, Pillar of Autumn is from Titus Andronicus and Truth & Reconciliation is from the Bible. We here at Bungie borrow from as many sources as possible. (Master Chief was borrowed from Julia Child but we misspelled it). Looks like I'm gonna have to go back and read Ender's Game again... and where's my Shakespeare collection? Thanks to mnemesis for the heads-up on this one. (Louis Wu 21:03:11 UTC)
March 1, 2002 Link to this post Master Chief Icons for you Liquidex, in answer to a forum request for Halo icons, has created a nice Master Chief version (and blown it up for detail): Except for the spelling error, it's perfect (and if you're using it on your desktop, you won't want the words anyway). Thanks, Liquidex! (Louis Wu 15:22:51 UTC)
February 4, 2002 Link to this post A nod to the first If you want a good laugh, check out the bottom of the boot of the new Counter-Strike Master Chief skin created by Strykerwolf. February 1, 2002 Link to this post When gamers get bored Whoa! Aaron Suhr has put together the 'ultimate vehicle collection'... check out 'Master Chief's Quality Used War Machines'. 12 Ghosts, 2 Banshees, 1 Wraith, a Warthog, and a Scorpion... plus 13 Shades. (Don't even ASK him how long it took.) Pics, plus a 5 meg flyover 'test drive', can be found on this page. This can be beaten... there are vehicles missing. Can YOU top it? (Louis Wu 14:34:15 UTC)
January 19, 2002 Link to this post Halo on an AIM Buddy icon Heh - Ben Bayes writes to say that badassbuddy.com has just put up a new AIM Buddy icon showing the Master Chief doin' his thing. Amazing what you can fit in to 50x50 pixels... (Louis Wu 20:28:40 UTC)
