Those Godless Chiropractors...
Red vs Blue Episode 65, 'Looking for Group', was released last night for sponsors (which means it'll be available for the masses by tomorrow sometime). Clearly, Caboose is a closet RPG player. And Simmons is... well, pretty dumb. Props to sarge, for the best epithet of the week ("Great sodium chloride!"). If you're a sponsor, go watch. If you're not, wait a bit. (And please - don't feel you need to tell us when the public versions are live... we announce RvB episodes ONCE, and assume anyone who isn't a sponsor can count to 48, and figure out when to look for the version they can see.) Pinkuh Blues.
Pinkuh Blues. In a coincidental piece of timing, Stuntmutt comments on Pinkuh's new comic series in today's One One Se7en (just as she announces a new piece of art). (Louis Wu 18:31:43 UTC)

Tied the Leader Weekly Update
XerxdeeJ stopped by our forum to announce another week's batch of musings over at Tied the Leader. Many of them this week are related to site administration, or to the recent search for a new clan name (they settled on TTL Gunslingers, as a tip-o-the-hat to Stephen King), but there are some other tidbits buried in there, as well. I liked this bit on Whisper Mode... (Louis Wu 20:32:48 UTC)

117 Words
The 117 Words competition came to a close last Friday - and tonight, the winners (and lots and lots of special mentions) have been announced. I must say - this contest was a fun one, not least because I had to do very little work for it... the quality of material this generated from fans was astounding. Go read Jillybean's post (with the shout-outs, both from her and from Stuntmutt), and then settle in and read the stories themselves. They rock. (These were just the ones judged to be the top 117 entries - there were many more entered.) And congratulations, of course, to the winners! (Maybe Frankie's first place finish will help him beat that flu after all...) (Louis Wu 00:31:19 UTC)

Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.
Gamespot says the rumor that Halo 3 will be shown to the public at X05 in Amsterdam next week is false. (Whoa, what a surprise.) I suppose I'm glad they came to that conclusion - but I'm really only posting this so folks can stop telling us they said this. It ain't announced until it's announced by Bungie - and trust me, the day that happens is a day we'll make a LOT of noise. (Louis Wu 12:27:43 UTC)

Lost the Lead
Pinkuh announced a new webcomic this morning - it's called 'Lost the Lead', and it will chronicle her adventures in online gaming. (Halo will play a pretty big role, but it won't be ALL Halo.) Looking forward to it! (Louis Wu 10:04:38 UTC)

No Halo Movie Director Chosen Yet
Yesterday, the IMDB entry for the Halo movie was changed - with the inclusion of Uwe Boll as Director. This caused no small amount of uproar on Halo forums around the net - even sites like Joystiq speculated on whether this was true. It's not true. Joseph Staten, Halo 2's writer and the Bungie employee who is currently most involved in the movie negotiations, had this to say:

"Nope. Absolutely not true. Trust me, when we've got something big to announce about the film (such as the director), we won't just be sneaking it onto IMDB."

Hopefully, this will put the rumors to bed... thanks, Joe! (Louis Wu 21:17:12 UTC)

Video Games Live - Redux
The Video Games Live tour, originally set up for this summer but delayed because interest was too great for some of the venues, is getting ready to kick off again; it starts in Seattle on October 29, with 27 additional tour dates to be announced soon around the US. There's an official trailer, in both WMP9 and QuickTime formats - go watch! (Louis Wu 07:17:33 UTC)

Where the cash is coming from
The World Cyber Games announced sponsors yesterday - and the US National Final will take place in New York in two weeks. 40,000 players competed in the US in preliminary events - 186 are in the finals. Of those, 16 will continue on to Singapore to compete for a $400,000 prize pool in the Grand Final - 16 of 800 gamers, pared down from a total of one million, worldwide, this year. Big numbers! Killikatari, baby.
A couple of days ago, Eisen Feuer posted a bunch of dialogue snippets to our forum - high-quality recordings of the various multiple-kill announcements in multiplayer. We've finally added them to our Dialogue Databank - one that doesn't show up in that link is 'Un-Freakin-Believable' which was in the databank before, but in a much lower-quality recording. These are good enough for use in machinima projects, I'd say... (Louis Wu 12:23:49 UTC)

How come his eyes are orange in every pic?
SketchFactor and Frankie wrote up a fascinating piece on Bungie's experiences at G-Phoria, the awards ceremony that showed on G4TV last night. (It was recorded a couple of weeks ago, and we announced the results then - it was just that it didn't make it onto television until yesterday.) There's also a page full of pictures, some of which should make you go 'hmmmm'. Thanks to Frankie for being Frist. (Louis Wu 14:39:55 UTC)

Map Pack Vids to remain offline
We've been getting a lot of mail, asking us when 'Another Day at the Beach' (the cinematic that can be found on the Map Pack disc) is going to be added to the Cutscene Library. Unfortunately, it's not going to be. Bungie would like for this scene (and the Killtacular video) to remain, for the time being at least, an exclusive perk for those who paid the extra money to buy the DVD. If this changes, we'll be sure to make an announcement. (Louis Wu 13:15:05 UTC)

Australian Montage Competition - your help needed
Apologies to the guys from HaloLive.com.au - we got a couple of notes about their Montage competion yesterday, but the holiday kept them from being posted. They've been running a competition for the best Halo 2 montage, and have narrowed it down to the final 5 entries. The Admins Choice award winner has already been selected, but no announcements will be made until the People's Choice award is decided - you can find download links in the news item; grab 'em and vote! The Harvest 2
trigger119 announced the release of Crossfire's 'The Harvest 2' yesterday on our forum - but things were so crazy I didn't get around to mentioning it. (This is partly because I wanted to watch it before I wrote about it - and the thing is 30 minutes long.) It's the full version of the vid we mentioned a trailer for a few weeks ago - film quality is pretty good, storyline works nicely. The BloodSignature team did a great job of keeping it all together for a half-hour video! trigger119 is hosting a WMP9 version at halomachinima.com for them (right-click/option-click to download - streaming won't work) - it weighs in at 114 mb. We've decided to put up a QuickTime version, as well, to help out - 110 mb. I'm actually pretty happy to see folks taking on more ambitious projects! (Louis Wu 14:06:19 UTC)

No Scope King
Almost a month ago, (GT))Juggler posted a teaser for 'No Scope King', a vid he was putting together that collected no-scope snipes from various games. Last night, this movie was released, and promoted on halo2forum.com. (Bandwidth is being provided - in its entirety - by Mythica; the halo2forum thread is just an announcement.) Unless you enjoy wallowing in mud (and nastier substances), I'd suggest passing over the thread; many (most?) of the posts either rant about how Juggler must have cheated to create this footage, or rant about how stupid other posters are for not seeing this. I've played with Juggler - quite a bit - and I'm not at all worried about the veracity of this footage; he's quite a good sniper, with or without a scope, but more to the point, his skill isn't the point of this vid. It's about watching fun no-scope snipes. And Juggler does a really nice job putting them together. The video is 2:22 long, and weighs in at 35.8 mb in QuickTime format (720X480), or 26.4 MB in WMP9 format (600x450). (The WMP9 has the correct aspect ratio - the quicktime is a bit stretched. On the other hand, the QT has higher video quality, and is larger.) Go watch - but watch it to enjoy the filmmaking. (Louis Wu 11:47:04 UTC)

VGL Announces Tour Dates
Video Games Live, the upcoming concert tour involving video game music, has announced 17 new dates, with tickets going on sale this Friday. You can find the full press release in our misc section. Looks like I'll be in Boston on August 22! Update: whee... the PR company has asked for a 'recall' on that press release. Sorry about that. Dunno WHERE I'll be in August, I guess. More when we know it. Update 2: Minor corrections have been made, the press release is back online. (Louis Wu 18:07:10 UTC)
