Nice beginning! (Louis Wu 20:09:34 UTC)
February 14, 2005 Link to this post Kubrick Master Chief Interactive Civilian took some photos of the Kubrick Master Chief that all Japanese Halo buyers were entitled to (it was finally delivered this week). Pretty cool - I'm guessing the hardcore Halo schwag collectors are gonna be scouring eBay... (Louis Wu 02:19:16 UTC)
February 6, 2005 Link to this post 7 foot MC on eBay ICDedPpl found an auction on eBay for another one of those MASSIVE 7-foot-tall Master Chief statues used in European promotions. Shipping is from Switzerland, so if you're in the US, count on it costing a fortune. Current bid is $610, and the reserve has not yet been met. 9+ hours left as of the time of this writing; if you're interested, bid now!
February 4, 2005 Link to this post Mommy, it's starting again... Front-page this morning on Variety.com (login required, check the last entry at bugmenot.com) is a story called 'Halo, Hollywood'... Looks like Microsoft has hired screenwriter Alex Garland to adapt the games into a movie - they've signed a 'million-dollar-deal' with him. Apparently, the buzz is that Microsoft (and Bungie) won't be involved beyond the script development stage... hmm. The article also complains about 'spare' characterization for the protagonist - 'Little is known about "Master Chief."' (This has ALWAYS been one of the major stumbling blocks in the road to convert a video game (where the main character has to be empty enough to fit anyone playing him) to a movie (where we NEED to know a little something about the character in order to enjoy the work).) If you don't feel like jumping through the hoops to read this on Variety, there are summaries on IGN's FilmForce (thanks, Brian Linder) and Sci Fi WIre (thanks, rolly poly). There were some who said this day would never come... (Louis Wu 13:26:45 UTC)
January 26, 2005 Link to this post Awards and Strategy TricKy passed on a couple of links for us last night... the Swedish gaming site NordicGamers.se posted their 'Best of 2004' article, and Halo picked up Best Soundtrack, but lost Best Action Game to Half-Life 2, and came in third for Game of the Year (behind Rome: Total War and Half-Life 2). Master Chief also picked up Hero of the Year. Then, over at TalkXbox, a new Halo 2 Strategy article has gone up; Week 11 looks at Ascension Team Ball. (This one seems pretty basic, to me. "Stay together, get the big weapons, hide.") (Louis Wu 10:30:56 UTC)
January 25, 2005 Link to this post Mullins - An Artist Apart As a cap to a truly spectacular day, content-wise, we'd like to offer you a few gorgeous images. Swing by our Craig Mullins Halo gallery for a full version of the Arbiter and Master Chief image used in today's Sneaking wallpaper from Bungie. (There's a more recent version of this image - one that has an energy sword and some beautiful lighting changes - but we can't release it yet.) You'll also find 'Brute Kick', ad stunning pic of the MC taking out a Brute - and a sketch of that image, in progress. Thanks to Bungie for the permission to post these, and to Craig for the images themselves! Enjoy. (Louis Wu 22:09:01 UTC)
January 24, 2005 Link to this post GU Comics - digging deep Friday's GU Comics uncovers the secret of Halo 2's spectacular sales numbers. Thanks, Meg. (They have a very cool little feature where you can search for comics by Game... in the past, they've looked at I Love Bees and Master Chief's PR skills, as well as the pirating issue that already got a news post. (Louis Wu 16:34:20 UTC)
January 20, 2005 Link to this post Skinning Steam Apparently, you can look at the Master Chief while preparing to play Half-Life 2 - there's a Halo 2 skin for Steam. (A screenshot is here.) Thanks, Samir Patel. (Louis Wu 10:55:02 UTC)

January 19, 2005 Link to this post Halo Combat Miniaturized Seiru found a mini Master Chief game at Crimson Edge - it's only in the very beginning stages, but it looks pretty nice! Check it out. (Louis Wu 02:51:02 UTC)
January 11, 2005 Link to this post MC for a good cause UK game retailer GAME auctioned off a 6 foot tall Master Chief statue
(different from others we've mentioned recently - this one has him standing
upright, with guns at his side), with proceeds going to the Tsunami Earthquake Appeal. Final bid was £365 (it closed a few hours ago). (We heard about it from Frankie, over at Bungie.net - who beat US to the punch, but didn't seem to realize that at the time he posted it, bidding had been over for more than 4 hours.) (Louis Wu 20:56:40 UTC)
January 3, 2005 Link to this post eBay Mania Jade8704 wrote to us to point out that the large Master Chief statue selling on eBay we mentioned a few days ago has sold, for $710. The smaller one has about half an hour to go on its auction - it's currently sitting at $257.49. And the resin model is at $305, with almost 4 days left. (You can see the last two at this link.) (Louis Wu 21:02:29 UTC)
January 2, 2005 Link to this post Halo: Resolution Sprites Last year, we hosted a comic series called Halo: Resolution. It closed its doors in July... but recently, Fuzzy (one half of its creative team) released 6 sheets of sprites used in the strip. See what you can do with them! (Comments can go in this forum thread.) (Louis Wu 23:47:24 UTC)
January 1, 2005 Link to this post Helljumpers in the Cutscene Library One last bit before I leave for the day: we've got the next entry in our Cutscene Library for you. It's the Helljumpers cutscene, the beginning of Delta Halo, and there are two files: there's the cutscene itself (2:30 long), and a small composite file that shows the one change that occurs, depending on the difficulty you're playing at. It's a very short bit, so I didn't think it was worth releasing 4 separate versions of the cutscene - it made more sense to simply snip out the difference. As the Covenant guard the ancient ruins, there's a short clip where a Jackal dances in front of a Grunt - and what the Grunt is doing depends on how hard the game is for you. On Easy and Normal, he's just rubbing his hand in the dirt. On Heroic, he's playing with fire. And on Legendary, he's fiddling with what looks like a Grunt doll - maybe the fabled plushie that never got made! Thanks to BOLL for the difficulty help, and as always, thanks to Sniper 058 for getting this section started in the first place. And that - as they say - is that. I'm gone. Update: Ename nep (among others) pointed out that it's not just a Grunt doll that Grunt is playing with... his left hand is holding a Master Chief doll! Nice. (Louis Wu 16:50:30 UTC)
December 31, 2004 Link to this post Now THAT would be cool on a mantel. A 13 inch, 4 pound metal statue of the Master Chief is now for sale on eBay. Starting bid is $100, but reserve is higher than that. If you bid, notice that shipping will be from Paris, France, so take that cost into account. The fact that Frankie weighed in on the thread suggests that this puppy is real. Thanks, Zerostar. (Louis Wu 20:50:17 UTC)
December 30, 2004 Link to this post Master Chief in your Living Room Ross Mills found another couple of Master Chief statues on eBay - one is 3 feet tall, the other is 6 feet tall. They've both got a few days left on their auctions - if you want one of these puppies, go bid! (Louis Wu 19:07:51 UTC)
December 29, 2004 Link to this post Blackartstudio's Afterwar continues Red Leader points out that Afterwar 9 has been posted... Master Chief bests a Hunter, and a Grunt is about to be surprised. (Louis Wu 16:52:47 UTC)
December 27, 2004 Link to this post A Chiefly Christmas Some of you might remember a guy who made latex Master Chief masks, and sold them on eBay. He isn't doing that any more - there are apparently copyright issues to work out - but I did find a very cool example of his product (in Doc's trademark purple) under our tree this year. There are a couple of shots of my son modeling it (front and side) - it actually fits ME, so it's a little big on him. Here's hoping the licensing details are worked out, because these ROCK! (Louis Wu 15:29:26 UTC)
December 24, 2004 Link to this post Master Chief: Hero Final Very nice. there's a new image over at DeviantART, created by Pinkuh - the Master Chief, saving a small girl (or using her as a human shield, if you read some of the more cynical posts on our forum). Great work. Thanks to SEspider for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 14:49:47 UTC)
December 17, 2004 Link to this post Easy on the eyes - very easy I'm getting very, very close to clearing out the Miscellaneous Art queue. The current batch is 17 images - including some spectacular pieces. Some have been seen before - some are new. New stuff that blew me away - pieces by Michael Coffing, Delta Hills by Paul Davies, and Jason Borne's Master Chief. (I'm not even BEGINNING to say that the other new stuff isn't worth seeing - it's a particularly powerful batch this time around.) Go take a look! (Louis Wu 20:35:46 UTC)
December 16, 2004 Link to this post Master Chief to Watch Over You Wow, nice. Tarzan posted a couple of pics on our forum of a wall mural he's painting in his room. Fantastic work - even MORE impressive when you know it's coming from a 13-year-old! (Louis Wu 21:38:08 UTC)

December 4, 2004 Link to this post Why let Bungie make all the money? ThinkGeek is gettin' in on the Halo Lovin' action - they're selling a plain black T-shirt with 'Master Chief' (in a pseudo-Halo font) on it. It ain't cheap, neither. Thanks, Jonas. (Louis Wu 16:02:05 UTC)
November 30, 2004 Link to this post Everybody's drawing the guy. KP was just browsing through sketches made by Tim Buckley, of the webcomic Ctrl+Alt+Del... and ran across this very nice pencil drawing of the Master Chief, done in honor of Halo 2's release. Coolness! (Louis Wu 15:00:19 UTC)
