Getting into the beta - non-trivial
Wow - if you live in Australia or New Zealand, and you want to participate in the Halo 3 beta, you're competing for a tiny number of spots (5 in NZ, 10 in AUS)... and you have to be creative to win. Come up with a 25-words-or-less description of how you think the Master Chief will 'finish the fight' - if the judges like your entry, you're in! Thanks, XBL_Haloaded. A bit of Friday Artwork
Two very cool pieces of artwork showed up in the last couple of days - rather than wait for the next Misc Art update, I thought I'd publicize these now. The first is a gorgeous render (1300x975, 85K) of the Master Chief, helmetless, created by benman08. The second is a pretty amazing piece of collage work (2248x1330, 260K) ; DMDyet pasted together a bunch of pieces of cardboard for a spectacular final product. (His description of the process is here.) Update: my misunderstanding - it seems this was built with paper TEXTURES, not actual paper. Still pretty cool to look at! (Louis Wu 18:08:50 UTC)

Stained Glass Halo
Tucker Barrie noticed a really nice looking Halo 3 stained glass window for sale on eBay - but you have to be able to pick it up in Buffalo, NY; the seller isn't shipping. Starting bid is $500, you've got another day before the auction ends. This is definitely a unique piece! Update, 29 July 2008: the eBay listing has long since expired, and I never saved a copy of the image itself - but Empress Cortana pointed out an article at deputydog that looks at stained glass geekery, and the Master Chief is there. In case THIS article goes down someday, too, we've mirrored a local copy. (I figure since deputydog got it from the eBay listing (see the watermark), they won't mind too much.) New Halo Trilogy Theme Available
Dolbex pointed out a post on Major Nelson's blog announcing a new Halo Trilogy theme for the Xbox360 - "Each blade presents a re-imagined view from the Halo universe, including all three iterations of the Master Chief's iconic Spartan armor, from past, present and future." 150 points, or free with the purchase of a Halo 3 faceplate. Wall-mountable statue up for grabs

Halo and the Aeneid

Console Wars

Wow, cool. BOLL found a site called 'TheDailyDrawing.com' that has videos showing someone ('J.W.'?) drawing stuff - and today's artwork is the Master Chief. The video is 4:21 long, and was filmed at 2.5x speed, so this pic took about 11 minutes to complete. Pretty fun to watch! (If you're reading this news post at a later date, I'm not positive whether the movie will be available on the site; there are some movies listed, but almost no information at all, so it's not clear if ALL films are archived, or just some; the direct YouTube link is here, and will get you back to TheDailyDrawing in any case.) Del Toro likes Blomkamp
Empire Magazine has a short article about Neill Blomkamp as the new Halo director, and while most of the info in is has been covered in other places in the last couple of days, they did manage to get a comment from Guillermo del Toro, who was considered for the job before Blomkamp, and who commented after seeing Blomkamp's demo reel:
"I was blown away. The Halo he's attracted to is great news to the fans of the game who are into the Master Chief aspect."

SA's Comedy Goldmine
