Ross Mills noticed an article at Maxim entitled 'The 7 Greatest Faceless Announcers in Video Games' - Halo's Voice of God renderer makes the list. Some of the 'memorable lines' attributed to him, though, might make you wonder.

November 13, 2008 Link to this post Grifball League Enhancements
NOKYARD let us know about a cool new feature of this year's Grifball Winter League - your team can build a customized Home Court! The official map has been designed to allow teams to customize the large wall so that 'home' games are more comfy - and you've got permission to get started on the customization. Full instructions and rules can be found in this ForgeHub thread (ForgeHub is working with Grifball.com to make this process smooth, and to ensure that none of the changes affect actual gameplay). Check it out! (Louis Wu 17:31:56 UTC)
November 10, 2008 Link to this post McFarlane Halo Figure News News from McFarlane - a couple of interesting announcements. They've announced a new series of Halo Wars mini-figures - 2.5 inches, sold in 3-packs, available in March; you can check out the pics on their site. Also, they've released a "Top 10 'must Have' Holiday Toys For $10" list - two of these figures are Halo figures. If you're thinking about giving Halo figures to friends/family for the holidays - save some dough! (Louis Wu 12:45:43 UTC)
November 7, 2008 Link to this post More on the Mythic Map Pack
It became clear yesterday, after the Halo Wars Collectible Edition announcement, that the Mythic Map Pack would be available for download from Xbox LIVE soon after the release of Halo Wars. (Bungie says as much here.) We even learned that the inclusion of the Map Pack in the Collectible Edition would come as a downloadable code (which means that you can only install it on one Xbox) - but I forgot to post that information here on the front page. Apologies to folks who weren't following various forum discussions. To sum up: the EARLIEST way to get the Mythic Maps is to buy the Halo Wars Collectible Edition ($80). Soon after its release, though, the maps will be available for public purchase on XBL (price currently unknown, but 800 MS Points is a good bet). It's unlikely the maps will be included in a Matchmaking playlist until there's a large enough population to USE them (this is pure speculation). (Louis Wu 13:28:29 UTC)
November 6, 2008 Link to this post Halo Wars CE - with some amazing extra content Whoa. Oddworld noticed an announcement on Xbox.com for the Halo Wars Collector's Edition, which is now available for preorder. Cool stuff in there - a graphic novel, a unique in-game vehicle, a patch, and some cards... but the REALLY big news is that the Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack (consisting of Assembly, Orbital, and Sandbox) will be in the box as well. Release date is 'worldwide this February'. Will this be the ONLY way to get the Mythic Map Pack? Unknown at this point. More when we know it! Update: Kotaku (among other places) has received the official press release - looks like list price for the Collector's Edition is $79.99. (We don't really count as a Halo news source, so we don't get these press releases.) (Louis Wu 17:54:05 UTC)

October 25, 2008 Link to this post A quick look at the work of Tobias Buckell
When it was announced, back in June, that Tobias Buckell was going to be writing the next Halo novel, I visited Amazon and picked up his existing work; I wanted to know what we were getting into. What with new novels from Richard Morgan, Alastair Reynolds, Jim Butcher, and others, I didn't finish the last of Buckell's novels until this month - but I've put up a short look at his work, as it might pertain to a Halo fan. Mini-version: I'm looking forward to November 25th! Go read the slightly longer version. (Louis Wu 19:21:51 UTC)

October 21, 2008 Link to this post Get a rare McFarlane Figure, Save Women InnerRayg made mention of this a couple of days ago, but KP pointed out today that it really hasn't been announced on our front page: there's an eBay auction going on right now for a sealed McFarlane Orange Hayabusa figure, packaging signed by Bungie employees. A signed figure by itself is worth something... but the Orange Hayabusa is apparently quite rare (it was only released in the UK), and unsigned models are going for upwards of $300 on eBay. Buy this one, raise mad money for the Fight Like a Girl Charity Tourney - money will go to breast and cervical cancer research. You've still got a couple of days - go bid! (Louis Wu 17:30:43 UTC)
October 14, 2008 Link to this post The man's a machine. Wow. Just... wow. Back in July, we pointed out that Pahis had destroyed the 'Million Point Challenge' set up by High Speed Halo back in October 2007 - using only three levels. His total score, at that point, was 2.2 million. He'd also completed the full game in SLASO mode in four and a quarter hours. Cody Miller stopped by to announce that Pahis has shattered the 3 million point milestone for Campaign scoring... and he's down to just over three and a half hours for his SLASO speedrun total. Pahis - holder of both High Score and SLASO Speed records, for every level in Halo 3. As Cody says... Inconceivable! (Louis Wu 18:19:54 UTC)

October 13, 2008 Link to this post You're Doing it Write - new details I hate it when contest rules change after the contest has been announced - but I'm not running this, so I'm just doing my best to make sure you know of the new rules. Phædrus has received some financial help from other generous members of the Fan Fiction community, so he's altered the specs for the Charity Drive challenge he announced yesterday - we've updated the original post to reflect the new (hopefully final) rules, and if you're planning on submitting, you should definitely read it over. October 1, 2008 Link to this post Microsoft's Halo team - and info on Bungie's next reveal I wasn't going to post this, because much of the information (Payton, Yu, etc) had already been circulated... but then we got a tidbit I hadn't seen before. So: Edge Online (thanks, Michael Smith), along with ShackNews and Joystiq (thanks, bentllama) are reporting that Microsoft is confirming some of the new, big hires of the internal Halo team at Microsoft Game Studios: Ryan Payton, who worked on Metal Gear Solid 4, is heading up the Peter Jackson Halo project, working alongside Ex-Gearbox programmer Corrine Yu, her husband Kenneth Scott, formerly of Id, David Wu, from Pseudo Interactive, and Frank O'Connor, formerly of Bungie. (And, as we now know, Nathan 'bentllama' Walpole, also formerly of Bungie.) A pretty all-star team! Edge also confirms that there will be a major announcement from Bungie at next week's Tokyo Game Show, with reference to the recently released 'KEEP IT CLEAN' teaser. (Louis Wu 20:54:47 UTC)

September 25, 2008 Link to this post Take Our Stuff - Status Update
Just a quick note; we haven't forgotten about the announcement of the Take Our Stuff contest winners. We've sorted through the nearly 8000 entries, we've tallied judges' votes... we're just working out the details before we announce anything. I'd hoped we would finish before the end of the 25th, in order to be able to announce on Halo 3's birthday... but, well, you might have noticed, there were a few other things occupying Bungie's attention today. We'll have results posted for you tomorrow - I promise! (Louis Wu 23:49:27 UTC)
September 24, 2008 Link to this post Halo/Army campaign wins award Halo has won yet ANOTHER advertising award - this time, though, it's not the Believe campaign. IAB's MIXX Awards were given out last night - and the Bronze award in the 'Brand Awareness and Positioning' category went to Universal McCann for the U.S. Army Halo 3 Experience campaign. Thanks, MarketWatch.
