I think Jamie98s has done a great job with the overall atmosphere of the levels; he's captured the suspense and fear very well (in some places, better than the game itself). This segment is 15 minutes long, and weighs in at a bit over 135 mb, in either WMP9 or QuickTime formats - grab a copy and watch! Update: mirrored now at GamingTV.org - thanks, trigger119. May 21, 2007 Link to this post AMC Winners Announced A bit over a month ago, we mentioned the Affinity Machinima Challenge, a contest put on by the HaloGrid crew. Well, this morning HaloGrid announced the winners in all three categories (seems like the Montage category got dropped) - and impressively, SodaGod, of Machine Enema, took first place in all three categories! (We've already discussed two of his entries - Omicron won for 'Action', and Bad Soda won for 'Comedy' - add to that 'Hush Little Baby' as a (disturbing but also compelling) music vid, and he's got a clean sweep. The second place finishers (Drunken Dog's 'Staring at the Sun' for music, GeneticSpartan's 'Evil Lair Commercial' for comedy, and blackouTT's 'Hemisphere' for action) were also quite good - swing by the announcement thread and download 'em all! Thanks, imSuck. (Louis Wu 14:26:08 UTC)
May 19, 2007 Link to this post The Heretic Ep 7 - Children of the Ark Edgeworks Entertainment has posted the finale of their machinima series, 'The Heretic' - a massive 23 minute piece that wraps up a great storyline. (Well, SORT of wraps it up - there's some nice setup for future work here.) Beautiful CG footage, awesome battle scenes, satisfying emotional manipulation. Go watch this! Thanks, Chester the Destroyer. Update: There's a blooper reel, too - thanks, CtD. (Louis Wu 05:54:49 UTC)

(There are two other prizes as well, containing the other two versions of Halo 3.) You've got until June 16 to submit a video of yourself 'doing anything in Halo 3'. Winners will be decided by user voting. Go read about it! (Louis Wu 14:34:18 UTC)

May 7, 2007 Link to this post Omicron and Bad Soda Last night, we got word from Sodagod that Machine Enema had released two new movies. Both were created for the Halogrid Affinity Machinima Challenge - they contain footage ONLY from Tombstone and Desolation. They are, as usual for Machine Enema creations, superbly well-constructed, with fantastic visuals, top-notch voice acting, and wonderful plots. The first is 'Omicron', and takes a different look at some characters he's worked with before... the second is 'Bad Soda', and made me laugh - a lot. You can grab Omicron in either WMP9 format (57.3 mb) or QuickTime format (64.4 mb) - and the same with Bad Soda (QuickTime format is 54.1 mb, WMP9 format is 47.2 mb). Once again, in case I wasn't clear before - both of these are absolutely worth the download.

May 5, 2007 Link to this post Waking Alex Schwartz sent us word of 'Waking', a 4-part machinima he and some friends created for a machinima class at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. It uses several different game engines (Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Second Life, and Unreal 2004), as well as outside effects added with Maya - the end result is pretty impressive. Running time is about 30 minutes, split between the four acts. Storyline has some Ender's Game, some Matrix, some Terminator... fun stuff. Go check it out! (He started a forum thread here, if you'd like to discuss it.) (Louis Wu 20:03:40 UTC)
May 5, 2007 Link to this post Follow the Fleet Edgeworks has posted Episode 6 of the Heretic - some amazing CG work on the space scenes, and a powerful storyline twist. Top-notch machinima - go watch! Thanks to clippit for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 13:59:15 UTC)
May 5, 2007 Link to this post Go to the Airport Over at Red vs Blue, Burnie released Director's Commentary for Episode 96 - it's almost more of a podcast than actual commentary on the piece, but there IS some cool stuff about how various shots were put together. (They're definitely getting fancier in their machinima techniques as the series winds down to a close...) Enjoyable, even though the RvB stuff is minimal. (Louis Wu 13:22:52 UTC)
May 2, 2007 Link to this post Fantasy Halo Part Three In late march, we mentioned Parts One and Two of 'Fantasy Halo', a machinima project that turns Halo 2 into a turn-based RPG. Yesterday, Deep Reaver stopped by to let us know that Part Three had been released - and I have to agree with RVideo on our forum... this is the best of the bunch. It's 24 minutes long, and an amazing 88 mb small for the WMP9 (for a video that long, that's an incredible compression rate - and it looks pretty good, too). We've added a local mirror for this, and added a QuickTime version for those who can't handle WMP9. (The QuickTime is even smaller (77mb), due to the vagaries of Squeeze, and the quality is not as good; I simply didn't want to take the time to try a second time (it was about a 2-hour runthrough), so if you CAN use the WMP9, you should. The QuickTime is watchable, though - and you SHOULD watch one of them.) Funny stuff - and really, really well choreographed. (Louis Wu 18:03:47 UTC)
April 15, 2007 Link to this post Halo 2 vs Halo 3 Adam Kovic, over at machinima.com, put together a short video that compares some of the early Halo 2 alpha and beta footage to the final product, in the context of the Halo 3 alpha footage we're seeing. His point is that we really don't have anything to worry about. Check it out! (Louis Wu 15:12:14 UTC)
April 11, 2007 Link to this post Affinity Machinima Challenge We heard from imSuck (and others) about a new contest being held by HaloGrid - the Affinity Machinima Challenge. There are cash prizes on the line for each of 4 categories (Action, Comedy, Montage, Music); check out imSuck's post for details on rules, dollars and more. Start planning today! April 9, 2007 Link to this post Long-lost music A couple of years ago, we were following a machinima series called 'Silver Stars/Purple Hearts' - it was being filmed in the HaloPC engine, and it told the story of a squad of female spartans. Elnea had written some music for it - but the series had died in production before her music saw the light of day. Last week, as a birthday present, Sevenar (one of the leads on the SSPH project) told Elnea she could release the music to the world - so she's done so. There's an instrumental version, and a vocal version. Both are hosted on her .Mac space, but we'll mirror them if the need arises. The oboe playing is fantastic... (Louis Wu 22:44:47 UTC)
April 4, 2007 Link to this post Shadows of the Ancients Ep 1 Laird sent this along yesterday, but I forgot to post it; he found an interesting piece of Halo machinima on YouTube. It's called 'Shadows of the Ancients: Episode 1- Two Arrivals', and it was created by SpartanJedi360. Nice effects, decent storyline - give it a watch! (Louis Wu 19:21:59 UTC)
April 3, 2007 Link to this post Gamebox 1.0 Machinimaker Award Machinima.com is running a contest called 'GameBox 1.0 Machinimaker Award' - three entries (out of 10) will get a nice NVIDIA card. Machine Enema's Pie Chapter 2 (which, for the record, we loved) is in the running - go vote! Thanks, Adam Kovic. (Louis Wu 20:27:01 UTC)

March 30, 2007 Link to this post The Five O'Clock Guru Episode 1 trigger119, over at GamingTV, pointed out a new video from the Machine Enema crew - it's called 'The Five O'Clock Guru Episode 1', and it's... out there. REALLY out there. It's hilarious - but it's not what you expect. Pesto might turn out to be the best Halo machinima character since RvB's Tex. The episode is nearly 12 minutes long; our mirrors (WMP9 | QuickTime) weigh in at 56.1 mb and 53.2 mb, respectively. I wish there were versions with a larger screensize! The effects are those you've come to expect from Machine Enema productions, the voice acting is fantastic, the humor is bizarre and rip-roaring. Go download!

Submit a machinima video telling them why you should be one of ten Condemned, win cool prizes. (nVidia graphics cards and Lionsgate prize packs are up for grabs.) "Using any game of your choice, show us why are you so bad...show us your gameplay or show us what did you do to be convicted and ultimately chosen to be on the island...be creative, be tough, be the chosen one..." Halo seems like an obvious choice for this puppy. Swing by and read the official rules - and get your entry in by April 15! (Louis Wu 18:50:11 UTC)
March 24, 2007 Link to this post RvB Episode 92 Director's Commentary Rooster Teeth has posted Episode 92 with Director's Commentary for sponsors - swing by to see how they did some of the trickier shots in that episode! Good stuff. (Heh - how long until some of this pops up in a dozen Halo machinima pieces?) (Louis Wu 02:00:52 UTC)
March 23, 2007 Link to this post Rendezvous Edgeworks Entertainment has released Episode 4 of The Heretic - we're back to the Spartan side of the story, and things are heating up. An orbital MAC platform is invaded, and the Spartans are needed to save the day. Available, as usual, in hi-res QuickTime and WMP9 from their site, this one will remind you why Edgeworks is one of the most respected names in Halo machinima. Fantastic angles, ingenious use of props and locations... this one's a must-see. Thanks, Funkmon. (Louis Wu 12:49:10 UTC)
