August 14, 2010 Link to this post Spawn announces Reach Series 2

August 12, 2010 Link to this post Building the Story Marcus Lehto talked to CVG about the development of Reach's campaign - instead of starting with a story, and building missions around it, they started with mission ideas (lots of them - about 150, according to Lehto), narrowed them down to their favorite 20 or so, then turned THOSE into a story. (Clearly, many were merged, since the Achievement list for Reach suggests roughly 10 campaign missions.) Interesting! (It's unclear if his comment that you'll be able to play campaign 'matchmaking over Live' is a misstatement... or a super-cool feature Bungie hadn't announced before. More when we know it.) Thanks, chess. (Louis Wu 15:41:01 UTC)
August 6, 2010 Link to this post Best of Halo 3's Forge Forge Hub is running another Best of Halo 3's Forge contest - but unlike the ones that have come before, you're not picking from maps released in the last 6 months, you're picking from all maps ever made with Forge. Full rules are up at Forge Hub. Go play! (And again, thanks, urk.) (Louis Wu 17:25:41 UTC)
August 5, 2010 Link to this post Halo: Reach - GOLD
Whoa. Not officially announced, as far as I know, but according to an interview with a Sydney Morning Herald blog, Joe Tung confirmed that Halo: Reach went gold yesterday. (The game was sent out for certification last week - "going gold" means it was approved. Next step: duplication! (Part One of that SMH interview is here. Read both parts - it's a good interview.) July 29, 2010 Link to this post Some 'specials' are more special than others. Yeah, so remember a couple of days ago, how there was a teaser for some special announcement to be made in London today? Well... that special announcement was about a Microsoft-compiled 'Super Squad' - some celebrities (well, almost-celebrities, i guess) will play against a team of halo players on Launch Day. To get in on the action, folks in the UK will have to compete in events over the next few weeks. Hrm. Thanks, TravisSch. (Louis Wu 22:29:19 UTC)

July 21, 2010 Link to this post Waypoint Tweets Up a Storm Waypoint's getting busy on Twitter - there are a couple of recent tweets that might be of interest to you. They're bringing something new to San Diego this week (thanks, GrimBrother One), and will show it off soon; GLYPH added some details on timing (keep an eye out for 'Preview Night' tonight on Waypoint). Also, they're asking for questions about the Halo fiction (thanks, Hedgemony) - the ones they pick will be answered at the Halo Universe Panel on Sunday. (They've already chosen one from yesterday, but keep an eye on the feed; they'll solicit new questions again later today.) Finally, they announced that Karen Traviss will be writing a new series of Halo novels, starting with the sequel to Ghosts of Onyx. (Read the press release for full details.) Thanks to Urban Reflex for that last. Whew! Update: Traviss clarifies on her blog that the upcoming book is not exactly a sequel: It isn't a sequel to Ghosts of Onyx in the sense that you mean a sequel, i.e. a continuation of the same story with the same cast- these novels are just set after it and follow the events of Halo 3. There'll be new characters and new storylines. Thanks, hnc. (Louis Wu 12:49:12 UTC)

May 24, 2010 Link to this post Reach Release Date - and Beta Stats It looks like a release date has been announced for Halo: Reach - an Associated Press article (hosted by Google, or Yahoo Finance) mentions that the game is out on September 14 worldwide (September 15 in Japan). A slightly different view ('worldwide' is swapped for 'US and UK') is shown by Computer and Video Games' website (thanks, ElzarTheBam). Both articles also discuss the amazing reach (heh) of the Halo: Reach Beta - 2.7 million people experienced it, logging more than 16 million hours over 18 days. For the number fanatics among you, this release date means that there are exactly 117 days between the end of the beta and the launch of the full game... (Louis Wu 13:31:31 UTC)

April 29, 2010 Link to this post Brian and Joe talk money. (And nipples.)
The biggest bit of news today was the announcement by Bungie that they'd entered into a partnership with Activision to publish their next game universe. Reaction was predominately negative; Activision has recently gone through some messy dealings with Infinity Ward, and gamers are a little gun-shy. We sat down to talk to Brian Jarrard and Joe Staten of Bungie about the new deal - and they want people to know, there's nothing to worry about. Read the interview - it should soothe your fears. And maybe make you a little nauseous at the same time. Don't click any in-interview links if you're at work. (Louis Wu 22:40:08 UTC)
April 28, 2010 Link to this post Beta End Date announced by MS According to OXM's Ryan McCaffrey, Microsoft has just sent out a press release which lists May 19 as the end date for the Halo Reach Beta. You've got a bit over two weeks to beat the crap out of it... (It's still possible it'll be extended; Bungie's been saying all along that if they need more data, they'll keep it going.) Update: I'm an idiot, this information is fully on view at Bungie.net - along with other goodies about the leadup. Be sure to check your ODST disc tomorrow for an introduction to the beta starring Aisha Tyler! (Louis Wu 22:27:32 UTC)
