A Saturday of Awards
In addition to the Spike VGA's, there was a second ceremony that took place yesterday - Machinima.com's 2010 Inside Gaming Awards. Marcus Lehto and Marty O'Donnell were on hand, and they took home 'Best Innovation in Game Design' (for Forge 2.0), beating out Call of Duty: Black Ops (wager matches), Dance Central (full body recognition dancing), Heavy Rain (interactive cinematography experience), and Rock Band 3 (Pro Guitar mode and peripheral). I'm So Poor Contest - Winners
We received almost 400 entries to our "I'm So Poor" contest for Noble Map Pack codes - I wish we had that many codes to give away! (Only 10, folks - sorry.) So here's what happened: the entries were split into "funny" and "serious", and dupes were removed. Then 5 entries from each group were selected randomly. Gamertags were checked to 1) make sure that Reach had been played, and 2) had NOT been used with the Noble Map Pack yet. (Yes, this might have bitten you if you'd played with your friends. None of our potential winners had that issue.) I decided NOT to share the serious stories - but here are the 5 winning funny entries (unedited):
- Ninja Slothboy: because microsoft increased the cost of xbox live by $10 a year. If they hadn't done that I could have bought the map pack. As it is we only turn on the heat long enough to thaw out the water in the bathtub so we can get clean once a week. Although clean is relative. If you saw the state that water is in after 6 weeks of family bathing you would know what I'm talking about. We're so poor that my daughters have to work in the coal mines for 6 hours a day just so they can afford to buy the tools they need to work in the salt mines.
- nikoli1287: I had to take out a second mortgage just to pay for a new helmet in Halo Reach.
- Garbled: I didn't buy Halo 2 or 3, I just added roman numerals to my Halo: CE disk.
- Lebeau 182: my ten gallon hat is a water jug
- WolfSarge: my eviction notice said, "All your apartment are belong to us"... Then an ominous disembodied voice announced "Territory-LOST".
Congrats, also, to the 5 'serious' winners: Civicmirror, Hextall2727, AVA1L, DanGerst, and Neo5601. Remaking Halo?
Moorpheusl9 noticed a small tidbit at CVG - according to the UK Magazine Games Master, 343 Industries is working on a remake of the first Halo game, to be released next year. Certainly something folks have been asking for! Update: not really news, but a "Microsoft spokesperson" told Eurogamer that they "have nothing to announce at this time" with regard to this rumor. BMF Noble Fundraiser Results and stats

Fighting with Fairfax
Gaming4Others' kilaM0Mjaro dropped us a line to announce a Halo Reach tournament being hosted with the Spirits of Fire community: "Fighting with Fairfax: Marissa's Bunny outREACH Tournament". The tourney will take place on December 4th and 5th, will have 2v2 and 4v4 Slayer events, and will raise money to support Infantile Spasms (check Marissa's Bunny for more info).

Guilt O' Lantern Contest: Results
This year's Guilt O' Lantern competition was the largest one ever - 150 entries. Took a long time to process them all so you could vote on them, and the voting itself took a while. But it slowed down to a trickle yesterday, so we turned off the spigot... and today, you'll find that the winners have been announced. My biggest regret is that we have only three prize categories - there were a couple of dozen pumpkins I'd love to reward with goodies! Such is life, though... go see who DID win! No... pumpkins?
I'm very, very sad - I checked the uploads folder for the Guilt O' Lantern contest... and we've only got a single entry! I realize there are still 10 days left... but usually by this time, we've got a dozen or two. Reach-themed car for Forza 3 VIP's
Just after the release of Halo: Reach, Turn 10 Studios made an announcement in their Weekly Blog about a custom Reach-themed car that would be sent out to Forza 3 VIP's. A couple of weeks ago, they made good on that promise. If you play Forza 3 but have ignored it lately for obvious reasons, go look to see if you have a new ride!

Noble Map Pack
If a cool Forge contest isn't enough for you, check out the Noble Map Pack - a downloadable map pack containing three new maps (one small, one large, one Invasion). This will go on sale on November 30 (77 days after Halo: Reach's release), for the now-standard price of 800 MS Points. Apt. 117 - Episode One
A couple of days ago, Halo Waypoint announced a teaser for a new animated series called 'Apt 117' (the link we list no longer works - looks like it was taken down). Reception for the trailer on our forum (and elsewhere) was decidedly... chilly. Well, you've got another opportunity to judge it, because we've got Episode One available for viewing now. Halo: Cryptum Details
Yesterday, Halo Waypoint posted a press release about the newest novel in the Halo library - Halo: Cryptum. It's the first of Greg Bear's Forerunner trilogy, and the press release displays the cover art, discusses Bear himself, and announces that the book will be available (in both print and audio formats) in January 2011. Launch schwag for sale
