Anniversary presales climbing
According to Punch Jump, preorders for Halo Anniversary are climbing - this week, it's #7 in the best-selling preorders list at Gamestop. (How appropriate!) Gamestop preorders get Master Chief Avatar armor for your XBL avatar, as well as the Grunt Funeral Skull in-game.

Robert Rodriguez says nice things about Halo
goCHIEFgo noticed an interview with Robert Rodriguez at IGN - and one of the questions had the director waxing poetic about Halo.
"My 12-year-old was playing the original Halo again on campaign. He was like, "This is so cool." Just watching Master Chief step out for the first time, and seeing him relive that for the first time. He probably never really played it like that. It's amazing seeing how it still works cinematically after 10 years. It goes to show good storytelling will never go out of style. In fact, that's what's needed in movies today. Storytelling needs to be even better than ever because that's how people are absorbing stories now, is through interactive."

Halo Teach: The Great Emu War
NsU Soldier pointed out the newest Halo Teach, a series of videos where Master Chief, in a blazer and bow-tie, summarizes famous battles in history. This new episode describes The Great Emu War, an engagement fought by an Australian major against... a flock of birds. Fascinating stuff!

Gotta watch your words...
A month ago, Microsoft Game Studios VP Phil Spencer talked to OXM UK at E3. He was hyping Halo 4, and talking about how it will be a return to the story of the Master Chief. The terminology he used might be considered... unfortunate, based on the press this article began generating yesterday. (Not sure why nobody noticed before yesterday, but that's a different question altogether.)
"We kind of lost our way a little bit, I'll say. And that's why I wanted to make sure that at the unveiling of Halo 4, you knew you were playing Master Chief, that John was back. Because Master Chief is the John Wayne character of that universe, and that's who you want to play."
The thread on our forum about this has people a little annoyed that Spencer basically seems to be saying "the direction Halo went in, with ODST and Reach, was not the direction it SHOULD have gone in." According to Bungie's Twitter, more swag (not swag bags) will be available in the Bungie Store today. And if you're already rocking a 20th anniversary T-shirt in real life, why not show your avatar the same love? (Male Fit | Female Fit) All proceeds go directly to charity, and the little guy (or girl) is probably lonely. Update: The avatar T-shirts (here) are now live! And there's a new piece of swag in the Bungie Store -- a 250-print run of the original Master Chief illustration, each signed by Marcus Lehto. "Marathon" for the iPad is
now available in the App Store. It's free to download, but for $3.99, you can download an "HD Mode," which features high resolution textures for liquids, floors and walls. For 99 cents, you can also download "Master Chief Mode," which grants numerous badass abilities, like invulnerabilty, infinite ammo and instant recharge, and allows the player to instant save and to start on any level. Master Chief Goes Platinum
If you're going to Comic-Con in July, be sure to pick up this Toys"R"Us exclusive Master Chief platinum action figure. The fully-articulated figure will hit stores in August, along with the rest of the "Anniversary" line. A shift in... something
ChrisTheeCrappy pointed out a nearly information-free post at IGN - the one bit it DOES have is a comment from Frank that there's a reason for the changes in Master Chief's behaviors in the Halo 4 trailer. (I'm not sure what that actually means - but IGN has interpreted it to mean that his personality has changed. Umm...)

Bungie.net Insanity - a Road Map
So Grim pointed out the beginning of the B.net festivities... but they're coming so fast and furious that without a roadmap, you might get lost.
- He's already linked to the Rooster-Teeth-created trailer explaining how anyone with a Bungie.net profile can unlock blue flames for their in-game armor - but if you didn't watch it, you should.
- You've been able to unlock those flames for almost a week, if you have an iOS device... but now you can do it right from the Bungie.net front page.
- The Bungie Store has been restocked in honor of the celebration - there are limited-run (VERY limited-run) prints of some really cool artwork and shirts, but the big draw will be the Bag O' Swag. The first batch of 500 is already sold out - but there may be more coming. The contents will vary from bag to bag (and you won't know what's in ANY of them unless you or a friend buys one). They run $30... but what's inside might be worth much, much more. Keep an eye on the page to make sure you don't miss another chance!
- The Bungie vs the World Steaktacular has been written up - swing by to see how you can get a chance to have Bungie mail you steak. Real steak.
- Some super-cool auctions are running on eBay right now - all proceeds will go to Child's Play, and you'll end up with some amazing concept art, framed and placarded. So far there are 12 items up - some have bids, some don't, all end in a week. Check out the artwork - Master Chief Helmet, Covenant Bus, Jackals, Covenant Shadow, Space Elevator, Pillar of Autumn, Quarantine Zone, In Amber Clad, Pillar of Autumn, and an original Penny Arcade "Jim Bean" comic strip. Also, check out the holdable goodies: an original Weta UNSC Battle Rifle and some Weta Upper-Body armor (I can't find a link for this yet). Amazing collection of stuff!
