October 1, 2012 Link to this post Ragnarok - and the Mantis The big news this morning is a double-punch - it's information that came out last week, unofficially, but the embargo has been raised, and 343 wants you to get an eyeful. Halo 3's Valhalla is back... in Halo 4, it's called Ragnarok. (The remake, at least what we can see of it in the new trailer on Halo Waypoint, or the new image gallery of scenery shots, looks to be pretty faithful to the original.) The second punch? The Mantis, a multiplayer vehicle we saw in renders last week, is playable on this map (and the video has footage). Greenskull already has an impressions video up - go see what he thinks of the map, and the mech! On our own forum, uberfoop kicked off a discussion thread - go add your two cents! Update: looks like I should have held off just a little - nomis78 announced a CommunityCustoms writeup, and CyReN let us know about a HaloCouncil breakdown from xClicked. Folks have been chomping at the bit to talk about this! Update 2: Until Halo Waypoint gets it up onto their own channel, there's a HD version of the Mantis vid on YouTube, posted by GoombaStompShow - nice for folks who can't get Silverlight to work. September 7, 2012 Link to this post 10,000 G$ Achievement Unlocked A few months ago, Twitch TV & Alienware announced a scholarship opportunity for individuals who showed both academic prowess and gaming excellence. They awarded 5 scholarships at $10,000 each, and we are very happy to announce that the Halo community's Goosechecka was one of the award recipients! You can check out more in the article here. If you run across the Grifball Queen online, make sure you congratulate her on an awesome job well done! (GrimBrother One 15:34:20 UTC)
September 2, 2012 Link to this post An incomplete PAX roundup Wow. It's Sunday, I've slept a total of 8 hours in the past 72, and we're so far behind on news I'm not sure we can catch up - especially since there's been so much juicy stuff here at PAX. There is definitely non-Halo 4 news in the queue - but given our limited resources (mostly time, I guess), I'm going to have to hold off on that stuff for now. (We'll get back to it, and I apologize in advance for the delay.) Here's stuff you shouldn't miss:
There is lots, lots more, and we'll do our best to round it up soon - but maybe this will hold you for a little bit! (Louis Wu 16:52:02 UTC)
August 27, 2012 Link to this post Halo 4 Front and Center at Eurogamer Expo Eurogamer Expo 2012 is coming up in a month - it's a gaming festival that takes place every year in London. Recently, they announced the keynote speaker, kicking off the event on Thursday, September 27 - Frank O'Connor will present a Halo 4 Developer Session to showcase "this year's biggest Xbox 360 release". According to Tom Bramwell, Eurogamer Operations Director: We were looking around for a big video game icon to open the show and they don't get much bigger than the Master Chief. The Master Chief is more than a video game star - he's a pop culture icon - and we can't wait to see what 343 Industries has in store for us. Not too shabby! (Louis Wu 15:04:09 UTC)
August 26, 2012 Link to this post I'm pretty sure he's there for his movie reviews.
Greg O'Connor-Read let us know (several days ago!) that Marty O'Donnell will be speaking at PAX next week. Swing by the PAX site's schedule section to read about the panel - he'll be joining Jesper Kyd, Michael McCann, Inon Zur, Sam Hulick and Emily Reese as a previously-unannounced 'suprise guest'. Nice! July 5, 2012 Link to this post SideQuest Auction Shaping Up Nicely
Running parallel to RTX this weekend is SideQuest; it's a bunch of events that will help conventiongoers meet up with other fans in relaxed non-convention environments. And one of the events that's part of SideQuest is a charity auction to benefit Child's Play. What will you be able to buy there, if you're lucky enough to go? Oh... some cool stuff. (Most recent announcement: a painting of The Meta, done by Luke McKay.) Yet ANOTHER reason I'm sad I won't be there! (Louis Wu 20:05:49 UTC)
July 3, 2012 Link to this post Two Betrayals, 647 seconds
Man, I remember when the world speed run record for Two Betrayals was over 25 minutes. It's not nearly that slow any more - but even with the advances of the past eight years, slYnki's announcement today sets a new one. He's run through the level in an astonishing 10:47. I was floored. (Louis Wu 20:41:07 UTC)
