July 31, 2014 Link to this post The Old, The New, and the Remade Last week, 343 released new pictures of Zanzibar, one of the Halo 2 maps getting a complete makeover for the Master Chief Collection. (All of the maps in Halo 2 are getting made over for Anniversary - but 6 of them have been 'reimagined' by Certain Affinity, and Zanzibar is one of these.) John Brent grabbed screenshots from Halo 2 (and even Halo 3's remake of this map, Last Resort) that matched the positioning of the new screens for the H2A Zanzibar, and sent them along to us for easy comparison. Jump in and see how they line up! (Louis Wu 19:02:17 UTC)

July 14, 2014 Link to this post A Very Late Halo Bulletin Update Last week, the Halo Bulletin was a little late (it showed up Thursday, instead of Wednesday). That's no excuse for us to be nearly a WEEK late, though... so we're sorry. Go give it a read; it's chock-full of RTX goodness, playlist updates, a Mega Bloks contest, and cool weapon skin screenshots. Read it here, if you'd rather - but read it. (Louis Wu 21:08:59 UTC)
July 9, 2014 Link to this post Loading Screen Easter Egg from Halo 3 Lord Zedd found a new easter egg in Halo 3 - he found it in the code, but it's repeatable by anyone who wants to try it. (I just did.) If you load up Halo 3 when your Xbox is set to December 25 (you'll have to be disconnected from Xbox Live if you don't want to wait 6 months), start up a new campaign mission, and then hold in both thumbsticks, you'll see the building of the Halo ring from a further viewpoint. (You can jump back and forth during the loading, and the zoom will track you.) There might even be more to this - but I'm not positive. The first time I tried this, the loading took a while... and it SEEMED I could read some text on the outside of the Halo as it built itself. (I didn't notice this until it was almost finished.) Repeated attempts were unsuccessful, because the loading time was much shorter after the first one, and any text that was created was blurred by the creation process. (It's even possible I was imagining things.) Either way, cool find, and amazing it remained a mystery for 7 years! Thanks, gamerguy2002. Update: Lord Zedd took the info above and loaded the animation from disc (as I did, that first run-through), which slowed it down enough to read the "Happy Birthday, Lauren!" written on the outside of the Halo. That's the REAL Easter Egg! Very cool. (Louis Wu 18:23:55 UTC)

June 28, 2014 Link to this post Halo Scale Comparison - Now Updated with Halo 4 Objects Back in 2005, Stephen Loftus created a Scale Comparison in Halo article - showing you how various structures and vehicles and characters fit together, size-wise. Over the years, he's improved this project, adding new items from later games and slotting them into the existing structure. He's done this again, and it's a HUGE advance; at the time of the last update (January 2013), there were 27 pages of images. Now there are almost 50. Swing by and dive in - it's fascinating! (If you've explored the collection before, you'll want to scroll down to the bottom of the main page - click on the Ark to get started on the cascading scale pages. That's where all the goodies are hiding.) (Louis Wu 21:46:05 UTC)

Another Wednesday came and went without our acknowledgement of the Halo Bulletin - I blame the flood we had yesterday (don't you love it when plumbing goes bad?), but really I have no excuse. You should go read it - it contains info on the newest Halo: Escalation issue, the Minecraft Halo mashup we mentioned last week, Beyond Entertainment's Forge Idol tournament, a super-cool Mammoth from pete_the_duck, and some awesome KotH screenshots. (You can read it in our Halo Bulletin Archive, if you don't want your IP address showing up two days late in Waypoint's logs.) (Louis Wu 16:37:35 UTC)

May 17, 2014 Link to this post Maybe Waypoint should switch to Saturdays Not sure how I managed to miss it this week, since I was back in internet land by Wednesday... but somehow, the Weekly Halo Bulletin came and went without an acknowledgement. If you haven't read it yet, you should go take a look. There's information on Matchmaking changes, an interesting Knowledge Drop (comprised of Twitter-originated questions about the Halo universe and answers from the 343 team), and a screenshot spotlight on that most underrated weapon, the Sticky Detonator. As always, there's a local copy, should you need it. Sorry for the delay! (Louis Wu 16:24:45 UTC)
