Heh - this story has been floating around for a while, but the comic-book-ripoff angle is new for me, and pretty amusing. The US Army solicited proposals for a nanotech suit for the soldier of the future. (The concept art looks vaguely familiar...) If you want to read some background on the project, see this article at the New Scientist. MIT won the grant ($50 million)... but now have a little bit of trouble explaining how a comic book hero ended up in their design proposal. Thanks to Bowser for the heads-up! (Louis Wu 17:28:09 UTC)
August 26, 2002 Link to this post I want one of those! dogsounds does it again... another great comic starring your favorite UNSC death dealer. The model was done by Strykerwolf - you can find more of his work in the Miscellaneous section. This picture, though, is in the Miscellaneous art section. (Louis Wu 12:26:02 UTC)
August 23, 2002 Link to this post Caption contest! dogsounds has whipped up another one of his cool comics - but he's not thrilled with the caption. If you can come up with a better one, drop us a line. (You'll find the piece in our Miscellaneous Art section.) (Louis Wu 02:11:00 UTC)
August 2, 2002 Link to this post Covert Covenant dogsounds sent in another Halo funny - we've added it to our Miscellaneous Art section. To put it simply - this guy rocks. (Go visit the website, for more comic goodness... non-Halo-related, but good stuff.) (Louis Wu 03:47:01 UTC)
June 17, 2002 Link to this post Squish! Heh - Halo shows up in today's Real LIfe Comics - go ahead, tell me this has never happened to you. Thanks to Uriel for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 12:16:44 UTC)
March 19, 2002 Link to this post Expect it when you least expect it Stosh created a Halo comic which pays tribute to Matt Soell's... um, unhealthy interests. Check it out! (Louis Wu 09:57:31 UTC)
March 12, 2002 Link to this post Psyjnir Complex isn't dead yet Psyrixx dropped us a note to let us know that they're working hard on bringing the Psyjnir Complex back online. In the meantime, he's redrawing the comic series he started before the server melted - with more detail than the first time. Check back every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for a new comic - until the site's online, they're not going to be archived, so if you miss 'em, you miss 'em. (Louis Wu 06:34:25 UTC)
March 1, 2002 Link to this post Halo Comic at Truth and Recon Heh - over at Bungie's Tru7h and Reconciliation site, there's word of a Seventh Column club-created Halo comic - the Slacker Pimps have a Halo illustrator in Slacker Tang. (You can see more of his Halo work here.) Thanks to craZy for the heads-up! (Louis Wu 02:01:16 UTC)
February 10, 2002 Link to this post Mac Hall and the Xbox Not fully Halo news... but it's pretty funny: This week's Mac Hall comic at Inside Mac Games focuses on the inline safety release built into each Xbox controller from Microsoft. (Interestingly enough, the Mac Hall general response to this feature characterizes them strongly as PC (as opposed to console) gamers - almost every console gamer I've talked to about this thinks it's brilliant, and that every controller should contain this feature. Hell, I thought it was silly... until the first time I backed away from the screen, trying to avoid that charging Hunter, and accidentally knocked my chair over backwards; that inline release saved a lot of equipment that day (as well as my game; instant pause until I reconnected, giving me time to regain my equilibrium.) It's a good thing, I think... but that doesn't mean it's not fodder for the Mac Hall Funny Machine. :) Plus, it gives 'em a chance to take a shot at the size of the Xbox...) Thanks to Vector40 for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 16:03:12 UTC)
January 28, 2002 Link to this post Explanation behind the obsession While on the subject of the Psyjnir Complex... seems they've got a new comics storyline started. Take a look in their Comics section... (Louis Wu 20:46:03 UTC)
January 9, 2002 Link to this post Comics as catharsis Psyrixx needs more sleep. Definitely. (Preferably without dreams...) (Louis Wu 01:33:28 UTC)
November 28, 2001 Link to this post PA gets tired of Halo Heh - the boys of Penny Arcade seem to be over their infatuation with Halo; today's comic (and indeed the news) suggest that they never want to see it again: I've heard people say it's too short. That's a hard case to argue - in fact, quite the opposite is true. This is a game that feels as though it was unduly lengthened by committee, affixed to some perverse device, warped and stretched to near infinity. I'd put forth that a game is only too short when you still want to play it by the end. [slight spoiler snipped - go read it at PA] I've never actually groaned before when a game's protagonist implies there will be a sequel. That's something I can't say anymore.
Thanks to R.net, for catching this one first. (Louis Wu 16:42:37 UTC)
November 26, 2001 Link to this post Someone has to do it... Thanks to bloodbeard [iG3], for pointing out a new MacHall comic at Inside Mac Games... poor Matt! (And where's his beard, anyway?) (Louis Wu 20:10:24 UTC)
November 7, 2001 Link to this post Forum roundup Overnight forum doings... the Xbox manual scans we mentioned last night got crushed from the demand - Final Solution's monthly bandwidth allotment has been used up... so Funky J has kindly put them up on his hotline server. Psyrixx has created a new Mastercard 'Priceless' parody - you can find it at The Psyjnir Complex. (5+ versions of browsers, please.) Jester explains how to save Real Audio streams (this is illegal in the US) - a little too late, since the Halo commercial mentioned a couple of days ago had disappeared from the net. (It seems to be back now, though... hmm.) And another new thread popped up over at IGN, in which someone is claiming to have gotten from their MS buddy the news that (once again) PC Halo is dead and buried. (It's mentioned here, here, and here.) Thanks... but until we get word from Bungie that they have, in fact, decided to bag it... we'll pass on this rumor. (Louis Wu 14:53:01 UTC)
October 23, 2001 Link to this post How to write a Halo novel Eric Trautmann passes along a few details about the upcoming Halo novel, 'Fall of Reach'... and in the process passes on a bit more. Cortana will play a major role in the book... but more interestingly, Eric describes the 'Story Bible': The story bible was written by yours truly (with some help from Eric Nylund, Doug Zartman, and Brannon Boren, all Microsoft employees). It is designed as a "reference guide" for authors, comic book writers, etc., so that they can build new stories set in the "Halo" universe without contradicting the game or each other. It also clearly identifies areas that are "hands off" -- the province of Bungie for potential future game development.
Very nice to see that Doug Zartmann is involved... and also very nice to see that Bungie keeps their options open. Thanks, Eric! Updated: Toned down the wording a bit, thanks to Eric's rebuttal. --CZ (Louis Wu 01:02:26 UTC)
October 16, 2001 Link to this post Xbox meets anime Thanks to Uriel, who pointed out on the forum that dom, an artist for Megatokyo, has posted an Xbox/GameCube rant. (Scroll down the page to the area below the comic - look for dom's column.) After reaming the controller, and running down some of the good and bad stuff he saw recently, he hit on Halo: Finally, the little aliens in Halo may just be the most fun bastards to shoot in a while.Ê They give you such crap when you die ("Not so tough NOW, are ya?") that you can't wait to respawn and pop a few more of them so they start scattering and screaming "Run!ÊIt's him!".Ê When Cortana buys himself an Xbox for DoA3 and Halo, I'll spend some time with Halo.
Someone with issues, certainly... but a fun read nonetheless. (Louis Wu 13:20:47 UTC)
September 19, 2001 Link to this post Halo mentioned at Penny-Arcade Matt Liebhold writes to say that Penny Arcade mentions Halo today in their news post... Since I don't remember (and it keeps changing) whether or not Halo will be available for the PC ever, I'm going to get my Halo on the only way I know how. Who knows? It's got full co-op (Thank HEAVENS), maybe Bungie will be the ones to bring me around to split-screen gaming. They single-handedly showed me what an idiot I was for buying in to the whole "Mac/PC" debate, everything I play from them renews my appetite for gaming in general.
(It's NEVER changed... but that's a totally separate can-o-worms.) Nice to see the mention! (They also (finally) mention Mac Hall, a great comic drawn by frequent HBO contributor Ian McConville (and written by bungie.org staffer Matt Boyd). Check it out! (Louis Wu 18:03:14 UTC)
May 29, 2001 Link to this post Cross-dressing gorillas? The Corporation has its own take on the changes Halo has seen recently... thanks to Lophan for the link. (Louis Wu 11:56:34 UTC)
May 21, 2001 Link to this post Net recap, bonus screenshot Man, I'm so far behind, it's not even funny. Here's a recap of Halo stuff from around the web that we've missed (thanks to Rampancy.net and Battleground: Halo for some of these): News/comic reports - Firing Squad caught Joe Staten's Halo presentation last Wednesday
- Penny Arcade comments on the size of the Xbox controller
- MSJolt loved solo play, hated multiplay
Fan impressions: Movie Stuff - HaloCenter has added mirrors for the fanfest movies - 1 | 2 | 3
- FilePlanet now has downloadable versions of the Xbox wmv movies: hi | lo
- pc.ign.com has more gameplay footage (filmed off the screen at the show) - thanks, Sokar and Sikora
I'll be organizing screenshots, updating the movies page, adding new concept art and fan fiction, and putting up my own impressions and comments over the course of the next few days - it's amazing how much information there was, and how hard it is to slam it all up quickly. :) To apologize for the lag, here's a bonus shot of the bottom of the Covenant Dropship. (Louis Wu 14:54:55 UTC)
March 15, 2001 Link to this post What you should never say to a cyborg Someone should hire this guy. Ian McConville, creator of the Gun Models here at HBO, has submitted an entertaining little comic for your perusal. If you like the style, visit the Mac Hall website (soon to move here). Oh, yeah... you can find the comic in our Miscellaneous Art section. (Louis Wu 17:59:27 UTC)

August 31, 2000 Link to this post The Bench looks at helmet envy Thanks to Mark Levin, who found another Bench comic relating to Halo. (Xian noticed one way back in early March, on our forum.) This one's pretty old, too... it went up in early February. However, I couldn't find any record of it either in our forum archives, or in the r.net forum archives, or on our news page. Old news can be good news. ;) (Louis Wu 12:12:39 UTC)
August 23, 2000 Link to this post Bungie Jumping does Hamish Mojo reminded us that we'd forgotten his comic site, Bungie Jumping, in our links round-up yesterday. Heh... his latest comic pokes fun at a pillar of the fan community... stop by and take a look! (Bungie Jumping has been added to the Funnies section of our Links page, as well. Sorry, Mojo.) (Louis Wu 02:28:31 UTC)
August 22, 2000 Link to this post Battleground: Halo wakes up Woohoo! Shame on us for not noticing sooner. Battleground: Halo, dormant for a bit, is back in the saddle, with new updates, a comic, and a new bit of fan fic. We were getting nervous there... ;) (Louis Wu 21:00:47 UTC)
