Halo 2 Weekly Update
Ross Mills found a VERY old ActionTrip comic (September 2004 - two months before Halo 2 was even released)... looking back at the situation at the time (this was published right around the time that Halo 2 went gold - following an insanely busy 6 months in the Bungie offices), it doesn't make a lot of sense, but hey - it's a comic, and it's sort of Halo-related. Beta slots for UK residents
Ross Mills pointed out 6 separate places in the UK where folks on that side of the pond can try for a beta slot - each site has 100 seats to give away. Go get 'em! (I like BritXbox's contest. :) ) (Louis Wu 12:21:40 UTC)

Marvel's HGN Ad
A couple of days ago, Ross Mills pointed out that there was an advertisement for the Halo Graphic Novel in a Marvel product he was looking at. It's a pretty nice ad, with some heretofore unseen pics in it - so we're putting up a copy (189K). I have trouble believing Marvel would have a problem with the free publicity. Rampant Rumor-Mongering
On April 1, we posted a (fake) press release from Jagex, the company behind Runescape; it announced Halo: Online, a Massively Multiplayer online role-playing game based on the Halo universe. This press release was created by Ross Mills, a longtime community member and current employee of Jagex, and while he thinks the concept is cool, he created the press release for April Fools because he knew it wasn't real. Don't tell that to The Mole, though - this writer, over at Blogcritics.org, suggests that this sort of game is EXACTLY what Bungie is working on right now. According to The Mole they're going to announce it at E3... and release it this fall. Let me go on record as saying that I believe The Mole... is smoking something that's almost certainly not legal in this country. (Louis Wu 13:44:12 UTC)

April Fools - the Wrapup
So, yeah. It's April 2... which means the silliness that is April 1 is over again, for another year. For those who might be more optimistic than discerning, the following stories were (for better or worse) not real: Halo on the PSP, Halo - the MMO, One One Se7en: the Book (I think), The Squadron Ep 17, Halo for the DS, the Helljumpers' pink makeover, the silly Xboxic story, and Halo 2 on OSX. Everything else was legit. If you wondered why HBO didn't seem to do anything this year (even the MMO press release wasn't ours - Ross Mills wrote that), it's pretty silly - we DID do something, but it got spoiled at the last minute by someone posting it on our forum. I didn't have any time left to paper over the damage - so it was easier to just pass on it. Seems silly to totally waste the work, though - c0ld, KP and I spent a goodly chunk of time on it (some of us more than others)... so you can view it here, for posterity. It ain't perfect... but it was sort of fun. Maybe next year we'll have better luck. (Louis Wu 03:59:10 UTC)

Marine Armor for Auction
Ross Mills found a UNSC Marine armor set for sale on eBay(uk). It's not completely finished - but a bunch of it is. (I'm wondering what happened to the model's arm...) Four days left, nobody's bid yet. (Louis Wu 15:43:03 UTC)

It's Just A Jump To The Left.
Wow... I could have SWORN today's One One Se7en was recycled... but the only Rocky Horror strips I could find were from Ross Mills, and they're not really the same thing at all. Anyway, the joke SHOULD have popped up before now... it amazes me how much fodder there actually is for this sort of thing. (Louis Wu 18:05:39 UTC)

Halo for cheap - in the UK
Over in the UK, it looks like Halo 2 has been released as an 'Xbox Classic' (similar to the US 'Platinum' category?), and is selling for £16.99 (just under $30 US). That's better than the US Amazon price of $33.95... though it wouldn't pay to order from the UK, for a few reasons; it's PAL, for one, so it won't play in the standard NTSC Xbox, and the shipping would easily swamp your savings anyway. For UK Halo players, though, it's a great deal! Thanks, Ross Mills. Update: Thanks to 3of9, who pointed out that here in the US, you can buy Halo 2 from Wal-Mart for just $17.82. Beat that, ya brits! I want a GIANT version of that.
I was a little hesitant about posting this, since I'm afraid that some of the people who see it from a front-page post won't bother to learn the context, and Roger Wilco will come off as a much harsher person than he really is... but it's just too funny to pass up on. Ross Mills posted a note this morning, lamenting the 'end of the golden age' of the HBO forum; some people (mostly newcomers) agreed with him, some people (mostly folks who've been around for years) suggested that the whole quality thing is cyclical. Roger Wilco chimed in with a pretty positive message, overall... but the opening is... well, harsh. Funny... but harsh. But Funny. Funny enough that it's worth a front-page mention. If it amuses you, and you don't recognize the name... search our news for him; you might find a few other things of interest. (Louis Wu 19:21:43 UTC)

Trautmann Roundup
A couple of interesting entries in Eric Trautmann's weblog - thanks for notice goes to Rampancy.net. Trautmann's 'The Art of Halo' made the Locus best-selling Gaming-Related Books list this month - it joins all three Halo novels on the top-5 list. (Locus is a big science fiction/fantasy mag.) And Ross Mills asked 5 questions which Eric answered - the first is an interesting discussion of game stories (and where Halo fits). Check 'em out! (Louis Wu 11:55:57 UTC)

Mjolnir Mix, by the Video Game Pianist
Ross Mills pointed out a website called 'Video Game Pianist' - it's some really nice piano work focused on (wait for it) video game music. There's a really nice version of the Halo 2 Theme (Mjolnir Mix) - but the only way to get it on the website is to download an entire CD's worth of video game music (70 mb or so). This may appeal to many of you (almost certainly DOES appeal to many of you)... but it's overkill for those who just want to hear the Halo piece. We've gotten permission from Martin Leung, the Video Game Pianist, to host the theme here; 2.7 mb, MP3 format. If you like what you hear, explore the site! (Louis Wu 01:50:16 UTC)

More goodies for sponsors at RvB
I was pretty sure one of these was already posted... but maybe not. Over at Red vs Blue, there are two new Sponsors-only vids; a third clip shown at Barenaked Ladies concerts last summer ('Sublime'), and a look at Red vs Blue in days gone by released on an EGM cover disc at one point. Both are pretty funny. Thanks, Ross Mills. (Louis Wu 13:18:09 UTC)

Melissa, by the numbers
Ouch. Penny Arcade mentioned that a piece of artwork donated to their upcoming Child's Play charity auction was Halo-related... to be specific, it's a wonderful depiction of Melissa, the Operator from the I Love Bees game. If you couldn't make it to the auction, this image was available for sale on the creator's website. Unfortunately, the traffic they sent to that site managed to shut it down. Luckily, I grabbed copies of the pics before that happened - the overall picture is here, and a closeup is here. Maybe once the furor dies down, you can get in and buy this, if you're so inclined. Thanks to Ross Mills for the first heads-up. (Louis Wu 00:28:25 UTC)
