On the Outskirts of New Mombasa
For those waiting breathlessly... it's Tuesday, so it's time for another chapter of Mike Miller's Legendary Walkthrough. This one looks at Outskirts... and the bane of Legendary in general - jackal snipers. Go read, go watch. (8 new movies.) (Louis Wu 17:58:53 UTC)

Halo 2 Legendary Walkthrough
Mike Miller has come to be known as a pretty amazing campaign player; if you don't know the name, you haven't been reading our news. The man has graciously agreed to share his knowledge and skills with the Halo community; we will gradually be releasing a Legendary Walkthrough of Halo 2, created by Mike. It contains general tips, specific strategies, and, because images sometimes teach better than words, video supplements for showing off techniques. Right now, we've got an Introduction (with plenty of general hints for Legendary-specific gameplay), and a walkthrough of Cairo Station, complete with 11 individual videos (in both QuickTime and WMP9 formats). Please - grab only what you need; our bandwidth has been hammered pretty hard this month. Thanks! And thanks to Mike, for the start of what looks to be a spectacular resource! Notes from a master
Having trouble with that second hangar bay on Cairo Station on Legendary? Mike Miller has summarized some of the existing resources out there to help you through, as well as adding 3 of his own movies. Amazing to watch, they show me how far behind the curve I really am, reflex-wise... but that's okay, because the entire post, as a whole, gives me enough info to actually get through this area. (One small trick that Mike took advantage of in his first video, but didn't spell out in the post, is that if you leave grunts alive from a particular wave, the next wave of elites won't drop down; this can give you a small breather - just make sure you keep at least one grunt alive until you've killed all the elites from that wave. You can see him doing this at about 1:30 into the first movie.) (Louis Wu 16:11:36 UTC)

Mike Miller Looks at Legendary
I missed this when it was first posted, but found it after reading another forum post (thanks, Alex!) - Mike Miller sat down and wrote out a pretty sizeable review of gameplay in Halo 2 on Legendary. There's some really, really interesting info in this post. Tips on weapons combos, honest talk about what works, and what doesn't, gameplay-wise, discussion of improvements (and degradations) of various visuals - this one is well-thought-out, well-written, and comes from someone with impeccable credentials (if the name Mike Miller doesn't mean anything to you, search our movie database - or maybe our news database is better, since his most recent movies aren't yet catalogued). Check this one out! (Some spoilers for folks who haven't finished the game yet.) (Louis Wu 12:14:42 UTC)

PoA 0 Shot
pushbak, inspired by Mike Miller's gunless Belly of the Beast performance, has submitted a new run through the Pillar of Autumn, doing the entire level on Legendary without firing a shot. (Lots and lots of grenades, and melee attacks... but not a single shot.) The movie is 8:03 long, and 28.1 mb large, in QuickTime format. You can grab it from Mythica.org. (If bandwidth gets tight, we'll add another mirror.) Enjoy! (Louis Wu 16:56:45 UTC)

The Essence of Sack
Yesterday, we released a short vid showing Mike Miller clearing the Belly of the Beast fight on Truth and Reconciliation without firing a shot - on Legendary. You might remember 'Legend', Mike's last video, showing some pretty slick Legendary gameplay. Well... he's followed it up with a sequel. Legend 2 is 7:36 long, 28.6 mb big, in QuickTime format... and contains some of the most balls-to-the-wall gameplay I've seen. When I clear out the Maw elevator, i do so from the safety of the corridor, so I can run away when the Spec-Ops Elites and Grunts don't all die in the first volley. Mike actually wipes out the lot from INSIDE the elevator. His 'hog handling is gorgeous (though he dumps a lot of 'em off edges...), the sniping is spot-on. And, as usual, the plasma grenade planting is beautiful. Half the video is devoted to outtakes, showing you he's human (some are hilarious)... and the final tidbit has to be seen to be believed. Absolutely worth the download. It's at Mythica.org and files.bungie.org for now; as always, we're happy to post mirror links. (Louis Wu 10:49:54 UTC)

Guns Don't Kill People...
Mike Miller, a man who knows how to play Halo and make movies about it, has dropped off a film called 'Guns Don't Kill People...' If you're at all insecure about your Halo-playing ability, don't watch this. T&R's 'Belly Of The Beast', on Legendary... in under 4 minutes, without firing a shot. (An interesting side effect of not shooting seems to be some glitching in the triggers for the sword elites; they still come out, but not in their normal pattern.) We're hosting this (QuickTime format, 13.7 mb) on files2.bungie.org. (I'm still trying to decide whether I'm in awe of his skill, or whether I hate him for making it look so easy.) Legend
So I'm lookin' through the uploads folder, and there's this huge movie, and the name rings a bell. Someone named Mike just sent an email about it. Half the guys I know are named Mike... could be anyone. So I grab it and I start watching it, right? And it's a little slow... another black-and-white legendary thing... I'm thinkin' I've seen too many of these... oh, good, there's some color. Okay, so he's playing through pieces of the game, big deal, why am I was—hey, he's pretty good with that plasma pistol! So my son wanders into the room, and we watch him take down a few elites with nice snipershots. And then there's this balls-to-the-wall jump-out-of-the-banshee attack on a Wraith. Cool. Something's tingling, though - I've seen this style before. About the time we watch The Best Gold Elite Kill Ever, I'm scrabbling back through my email, trying to place this guy. Hmm... random AOL address, nothing's jumping to mind. The Steel Trap is definitely rusted. A quick search... Mike Miller sent in two of the best vids we've seen (In Too Deep and Winning Isn't Everything), and now he's taken the hat trick with Legend. 30 mb, QuickTime format, 8:32 long. There's a copy at Mythica, too, just because I haven't stressed Brian enough recently. You gotta watch this, just for the outtakes at the end. And that elite kill. (And the pair following it.) And Mike - I'm really sorry I didn't recognize the address. Though I must say, having the movie unfold like that was worth not knowing. Update: We've got 4 mirrors to tell you about for this film - Coerce.net has mirrored it, as has clarksbrother, in three places (here, here, and here). If our main sites begin to lag, grab a mirror! (Thanks, guys!) (Louis Wu 00:19:50 UTC)

This is like the gun I used in 'nam.
Six months ago, Mike Miller put together a film called 'In Too Deep'. It rocked. Well, he's back - the new one's called 'Winning isn't Everything', and it rocks, too. 19.2 mb of QuickTime goodness - it's just over 4 and a half minutes long, and it's filled with a combination of tricks (most of which have been documented right here on this site), cool sequences, and fantastic audio choices. Timing (probably the most critical feature of a Halo vid) is spot-on... and there are some sequences that simply have to be seen to be believed. (Check out the Elite Wraith driver kill that starts around 1:07.) If you're looking to make a Halo video, and you want to figure out what works... watch this. 20 mb is big... so any mirror offers will be greatly appreciated. Update: Blade, who's in the process of building Team Ice, a Halo/Starcraft gaming website (with updates coming soon), has agreed to mirror BOTH of Mike Miller's movies - you can grab In Too Deep and Winning isn't Everything off his site. Thanks, Blade! (Louis Wu 16:49:33 UTC)

In Too Deep
Mike Miller has created a movie called 'In Too Deep (Things to Do in Halo When You're Bored)' - it's 6:22 long, 20.7 mb large, and pretty much covers everything in our Tips and Tricks section in one easy lesson. (Okay, not everything. But an awful lot of it.) Mix in some humor, nice timing, a decent score, and a Monty Python quote I've been waiting to see in a Halo movie for over a year, and you've got entertainment. Currently housed at mythica.org and the Psyjnir.com Hotline server- but we're happy to post mirrors if you want to provide bandwidth for this. (Louis Wu 19:14:42 UTC)
