Audacity Basic Tutorial

By QuickTactical (originally posted at Halogrid.com)

I was shown Audacity several months ago by Ghost147, who was shown it by MaritalBlaze, so thanks very much to them. Audacity is an audio editing program. For our purposes, however, it's for voice acting. Below is a quick and easy guide to recording and sending out your lines.

I: Downloading
Simply click the following link, and select the option in the red box shown below.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Next, select the option shown in the red box.

The next page you see has a list of download servers. Choose the one that's closest to you.
II: Installing
Installing is pretty simple. Just go through the wizard, and when you're done, open up Audacity.
III: Recording
Some computers may actually be able to hold your Xbox Live microphone plug. If not, use a good computer microphone.
In the below picture, you want to select what is shown; the Microphone input. Make sure the input level is at a good level (boxed in green). You may or not be able to hear yourself from your speakers, and you can also increase the input level by clicking the speaker icon on the lower right of your taskbar.

Click the Record button (below left), and speak your line. When you're done, click the Stop button (below right).

IV: Saving
When you're done recording your line, go to File>Export as WAV…

Next, select Desktop, and right click and select New>Folder. Title it whatever you want, and open it.

Finally, title the clip as “Line1”, or “Line2”, etc, as whatever line that is in the script for your character. Click Save, and go back to the program.
Before you record your next line, make sure to delete the previous one.

After you're done, upload your entire folder (if possible) to www.filefront.com, or each line to www.putfile.com. Make sure to copy the URL's of each line in Word or another program, and then PM me or e-mail your clan leader/filmer/editor with the URL's!
Simple as that.
