Step 4: More sketching
This is a tad hard to explain. This is actually where I began to seriously feel the piece. I wanted it to carry a lot of information in a rather small space, so I started with the obvious... the Halos, on a new layer or two. All seven are at the bottom of the piece. I then started to think about what I wanted in the background. I have always enjoyed the look of High Charity... so that's what wound up there.
