They're Random, Baby!

Show me the money!

In November, 2005, HBO and Bungie collaborated on a charity auction to benefit hurricane victims in the southern US. Because eBay handled the actual selling, and MissionFish (an eBay-affiliated organization that deals with charitable auctions) ensured that the donations we promised were actually made, figuring out exactly how much money went to the Red Cross wasn't as simple as adding up the auction prices. On top of the basic fees, there were twists - like eBay will donate insertion and final value fees for auctions that donate 90% or more to charity (but will not donate gallery fees, special duration fees, or scheduled start fees). We set this up so that Bungie supplied all the goodies and paid all the shipping charges, HBO handled all the listings (and after-auction headaches), and the buyers supplied all the cash for fees and donations. Below you'll find the breakdown of how it all added up.
