Use the plasma pistol to kill elites on legendary, but DON'T OVERCHARGE IT!! Overcharging it wastes battery life, overheats the gun instantly, and can miss. Instead, shoot the alien as fast as you can and its shields will be down in seconds. Pause to let the gun cool down and finish of the creature with it.
