or dealing with mass Flood assaults, but there's a few points they may have missed.
Your best loadout for dealing with Flood is a shotgun and an AR, with the occasional rocket launcher. Why occasional? Because the rocket launcher is slow, it's cumbersome, and there's a lot more Flood looking for you than the rocket launcher can deal with . There's also the inconvenience of "minimum safe range." Don't even bother with plasma weapons unless you have no choice - they'll overheat and you'll die; usually not an issue because infected Marines and Elites will bring reloads to you. Same goes for needlers. Use plasma grenades as area weapons only, because when you stick one to a Flood, he'll charge you. Ooops. If you have to use a plasma grenade, toss it at a wall or something it won't stick to. Fortunately, the Flood will bring lots of frag grenades to you.
Here's how it works. The Flood come at you in waves (Duh, they're called the Flood for a reason ), with Infected troops, carrier Flood, and infection Flood. You have to prioritize your targets to survive; be mindful of cover and the terrain, too. At long range, kill the carriers first - the resulting explosion is useful. At medium or close ranges, kill the Infected troops first. The carriers are slow, and if you back away from them, they're mostly harmless. Use cover - for example, in the Library, y ou can and should duck down and around the pillars and walls there.
In fact, that's most of the best way to kill Flood. Grab a rocket launcher, run forward to trigger the Flood, launch a rocket or two at long range, run back around the corner, swap the launcher for the AR or shotgun you dropped. The Flood will come at you around the corner (and behind you sometimes, so be cautious, check your six, and watch the detector). Empty your shotgun at the bumper crop of bipedal targets that come around the corner and any creeping Flood that gets close, then switch to the AR (relo ading takes WAY too long to be survivable here - very realistic) and hose down what's left. Running backwards from the remaining flocks of creeping Flood while firing short bursts from the AR at them will result in a lot of dead Flood. If you run out of s hotgun ammo before all the bipedal Flood are dead, run to the pile of dead bodies you've amassed - most of them had weapons you can loot for ammo - and keep firing with the AR. Reload your weapons at ANY lull in the action. Repeat as needed, and the Libra ry (and the other Flood levels) will be a walk in the park.
In short, use the shotgun and AR to keep a constant stream of fire, and make them come to you. Worked very well in Marathon, works extremely well against the Flood.
