Games as Art - now on YouTube

Waypoint - it's what's for dinner
So I don't know how many of you have Halo Waypoint's website on your regular visit list... but if you're a Halo fan, you really should. As usual, there's a Weekly Wrap-Up post that lists all the goodies they've posted this week (highlights from there, for me, included the Cryptum Glossary Update (really useful for this content-rich novel), the Master Chief Pyrography (Kassie's got way more skillz than me!), and the MC Sneakers (gawjuss). There's plenty of other stuff there, though, that doesn't make the roundups - Chris Burke covered the World Cyber Games Holiday Heroes tournament, and (as This Spartan Life's Damian Lacedamian) interviewed Frank O'Connor and bs angel. Mr. Vociferous returned to his Vintage Fisticuffs series, with a piece called Grand Canyon, looking back at Halo's Two Betrayals level and a critical battle therein. (Glorious.) And Chairleg Productions (search our news for some of their past work) focused on the question "Should Games be Considered Art?" - the resulting video is a really fun 8 minutes. Console Wars Episode 2
Chairleg Productions started a series called 'Console Wars' back in mid-2008. The first episode was very good. (Higher-res download links are available in this post.) Then there was silence, for 2 years. Today, they're back, with Episode 2... and the result is fantastic. Funny story, great video effects, nice cultural references... definitely worth a watch.

Chairleg Discusses Console Wars in a new Podcast
Chairleg Productions has posted a podcast discussing some of the special effects and how they took care of them in their latest production, Console Wars. (We mentioned it on Tuesday.) If you haven't seen the video yet, you should - since our newspost, which contained links for an SD flash version and a downloadable HD QuickTime version, they've put it up on YouTube, and we provided a couple of mirrors (the HD QuickTime, and an HD WMP9). Chairleg offering a Halo 3 Cutscene in HD
The Chairleg Productions crew is planning on releasing some new machinima in HD, and to test whether their server can handle the load, they're releasing a Halo 3 cutscene (the ending of Floodgate) in QuickTime H.264 HD format. Swing by Squarecoin's forum post for details and a download link.

Daytime TV
Wow, it's gonna be one of those days. In rapid succession, the MPRRS reviewers passed the latest submission by Chairleg Productions - entitled 'Daytime or: How I learnt to stop legislating and love the Ninjaman', this one is a break from their recent MPs series - it's a look at violence in videogames, and possible alternatives. MPs Ep 3: The Cure for Invincibility
Chairleg Productions has released Episode 3 of their MPs series - you can grab it at their site in WMP9 format (38.3 mb), or, since it passed the MPRRS, you can use our mirrors (WMP9 version | QuickTime version). Tetris Forever
Chairleg Productions released Episode 2 of their new series, MPs, this week. This one is shaping up to be amazing - really high production values, including fantastic audio, beautifully-integrated effects, and really smooth cinematography. Humor continues to be high, and character development is really strong. We're helping out with a mirror of the WMP9 version (40.2 mb), and providing a QuickTime version as well (40.6 mb). MPs Episode 1: 26th Century Boy
Chairleg Productions has created a number of Halo-based machinima projects - most (all?) have met with critical success. They're funny, they're well-filmed, they've got high production qualities. They've got a new series just beginning: MPs. They submitted Episode 1 to the MPRRS last week - and were given a high passing score. They asked us to hold off on release of this film, though, to allow for more time in making other episodes; we're nothing if not accomodating. It's Thursday, so it's release day for 'MPs Episode 1: 26th Century Boy'. It's funny, it's big and beautiful, and it makes us want more episodes. it revolves around the lives of a team of Military Police who are decidedly unmilitary. The Editing Process
In what has to be one of the more amazingly coincindental bits of timing this week, Chairleg Productions has released a new movie entitled 'The Editing Process' today - you can download WMP9, QT7, and PSP versions from their downloads page. This video focuses on the making of the Halo movie... and if it wasn't for the fact that it actually takes TIME to make a movie like this, I'd swear they used our brand-new Halo Movie Cynics database for its content. It's brilliant - and I don't just say that because I'm in it (sort of). Go watch - and if bandwidth gets tight, we're happy to put up mirrors... this is funny stuff! Waiting in Line - now in QT
Last night, Chairleg Productions' Waiting In Line passed the MPRRS - we'd already posted a note about it, and Chairleg said they weren't looking for hosting... but passing the MPRRS means we're happy hosting versions the original host isn't offering - so for folks who'd rather watch QuickTime (and who don't want to settle for the PSP-formatted version), you can now grab a full-size QuickTime (23 mb) of this video from us. Waiting in Line
Chairleg Productions has posted a new movie - it's called 'Waiting in Line', and it's available in WMP9 and MP4 formats (the latter for PSP). Origins of Machinima
Arcadian Flame, of Chairleg Productions, submitted a short history of Machinima to the MPRRS. It passed. It's pretty funny. Big Boys and Wicker Baskets
ChairLeg Productions continues with their Nephrons series; 'Nephrons - Minus Four' passed the MPRRS last night. Hugh is still insane, Mike is still in prison, the Blues are still better at insulting than the Reds. The reviewers liked the quality, the jokes (except for one reviewer, who found it 'quite boring' but passed it anyway), and the plot (except for those who didn't get it). British humor, you know. Nephrons - Minus Five
The next episode of Nephrons ('Nephrons - Minus Five') has been released by ChairLeg Productions - and it's passed our Movie Peer Review Rating System. You can grab it in PSP-friendly form (368x208, 16.2 mb, MP4 encoding), directly from their site... or in PC-friendly form (standard 640x480 formats) from us; WMP9 format is 44.3 mb, QuickTime format is 40.6 mb. Nephrons - Minus Six
Chairleg Productions came out of - well, pretty much nowhere a couple of days ago with their well-received Tale of Two Countries. Today, they're back, with another MPRRS-approved film, this one called 'Nephrons - Minus Six'. It's not yet Episode One, and indeed you will one day have the opportunity to meet a real-life Nephron... in the meantime, get acquainted with Jimmy, and the rest of the cast! A Tale of Two Countries
Arcadian Flame, of Chairleg Productions, has put together A Tale of Two Countries - an attempt to highlight some of the differences between the UK and the US. Chairleg uses (appropriately for this site) the Halo engine in this display. The Movie Peer Review Rating System passed this by a wide margin.
