Cake Island
Whoa - WOLFBANE 101's 3-year-old son ended up with a pretty cool birthday cake this year! (Louis Wu 19:14:56 UTC)

Cookout! Grenades! Cake!
rapture sent word that recently the Hushed Casket held a LANfest - 'Cookout! Grenades! 2' - to celebrate one member's house purchase and the anniversary of the first Cookout! Grenades! LAN (with a shout-out to Midnight, who couldn't be there because he's in Iraq)... and of course, they had a Halo-themed cake (pic 1 | pic 2). Nice! (Louis Wu 17:05:45 UTC)

Did someone say cake?
Stuntmutt mentions an update to his blog a couple of days ago - pictures, movies, guest strips... what more could you want? (Don't answer that.) Go read! (Louis Wu 16:14:03 UTC)

Why does the cake smell like baby oil?
RedvsBlue Episode 74, 'Right To Remain Silenced', has been released for sponsors, a bit later than expected... but man, it was worth it. My favorite character is back... and as fun as ever. If you're a sponsor, go grab it now. If you're not... it should be out by Thursday or so. Thanks to spartaneric for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 03:24:20 UTC)

Will there be cake?
Foo Mo Jive wrote to tell us that Podtacular has released their monumental 50th episode. This episode is completely devoted to various tips, including a few good ones regarding Terminal. They've also asked us to mention their new Podtacular Clan structure, which they've briefly outlined. Congratulations on your 50th episode, guys! (KP 06:14:35 UTC)

Cakehole - shut it!
Captain Spark turned in another 19 dialogue snippets - you can snag them from his website, or peruse them in our Dialogue Databank. He's baaaack... (Louis Wu 20:32:34 UTC)

Puncake!
Periodically, Bentllama spams our forum with random comments about his favorite breakfast food. If he weren't a Cananimator, we'd probably just ban the guy... but as it is, he tends to draw the forum locals into silliness (as he did last week). Today's One One Se7en gives you Stuntmutt's take on the situation. (Louis Wu 15:07:55 UTC)

A small note of sadness
This should really be posted on the bungie.org front page, but nobody ever goes there (mostly because it hasn't been updated in years)... we allowed our 7th birthday to pass unnoticed yesterday, and what might be worse... nobody noticed. (Bungie.org opened its doors on January 6, 1999, and has been serving the Bungie community every day since then. Without you, the fans, we'd be nothing - so thanks.) Eat some cake for us! Birthdays

Let us have birthdays every day,
(I had the thought while I was shaving)
Because a birthday should be gay,
And full of grace and good behaving.
We can't have cakes and candles bright,
And presents are beyond our giving,
But let lt us cherish with delight
The birthday way of lovely living.

For I have passed three-score and ten
And I can count upon my fingers
The years I hope to bide with men,
(Though by God's grace one often lingers.)
So in the summers left to me,
Because I'm blest beyond my merit,
I hope with gratitude and glee
To sparkle with the birthday spirit.

Let me inform myself each day
Who's proudmost on the natal roster;
If Washington or Henry Clay,
Or Eugene Field or Stephen Foster.
oh lots of famous folks I'll find
Who more than measure to my rating,
And so thanksgivingly inclined
Their birthdays I'll be celebrating.

For Oh I know the cheery glow
Of Anniversary rejoicing;
Let me reflect its radiance so
My daily gladness I'll be voicing.
And though I'm stooped and silver-haired,
Let me with laughter make the hearth gay,
So by the gods I may be spared
Each year to hear: "Pop, Happy Birthday."

A Halo Birthday
Hehe - last weekend, I attended the birthday party of Miguel Chavez's oldest son with my kids (Rafi turned 10). The party had a Halo theme... but I didn't put up any pics or a writeup because... well, because Rafi is 10. The cake, however, was designed by Gruntsbane, over at Halo Babies, and Mig sent THEM a bunch of pics... so go check it out! (Louis Wu 22:09:43 UTC)

That projector costs ten grand.
Today's Bungie Weekly Update takes a close look at the new office space, with some very nice panoramic shots of the space and a list of nearby eateries (though I'm sure Bentllama is gonna kill Frankie for neglecting the Original Pancake House RIGHT NEXT DOOR). There's also a pretty awesome Mister Chief Etch-a-Sketch. Go read! (Louis Wu 01:13:04 UTC)

Wow - it's been a year?
Exactly one year ago today, a fan project that took on a life of its own kicked off. By the time it was done, some folks were clapping, others were shaking their fists - but all agreed it had made a mark on the fan community. Its mastermind just popped up for cake. (Louis Wu 09:13:58 UTC)

The llama speaks - with a mic
bentllama has updated his weblog with a couple of common-sense items - if you're sending someone a Friends request on XBL, you might consider actually TALKING to them and telling them who you are and why you want to be their friend... and if you're without a headset mic, should you REALLY be playing in team games? (Well, that second one might be a little harsh... but they're both things to think about.) Just your friendly neighborhood pancake-lover, trying to make your Live experience less stressful! Caaaaaaaake...
Eric 'Siva' Salzman, who's posted some pretty nice desktops in our Wallpaper section, celebrated his wife's birthday a few days ago with a Halo-themed cake (front and side views). (The X is for 'extraordinaire' - a fine epithet for a wife.) Siva says, "This is the first time I've tried to incorporate Halo into food and it was fun!" Go ahead - try this at home! (I'm only wishing I got to this on the 14th, so Mrs Siva X could have had another birthday present...) (Louis Wu 10:04:22 UTC)

Not a single pancake!
There's an interview with Nathan Walpole, better known as bentllama around the Halo community, one of the Canadian animators on the Halo 2 team, over at Simpatico/MSN. Nice read! Thanks, Farhang. (Louis Wu 16:39:38 UTC)

Not a single Pancake mention
Looks like Dr. Nick found that Canada.com article as well, but he went one step further, and found THIS article on the Canadian contingent on the same site. It's a good read, even if they DO call Anim8rJB and bentllama the 'Canimators'... and it looks like Sep7imus has taken issue with a couple of other... um, interesting phrase choices. Halo 2 LE - for cheap
I'd leave this until the morning, because I'm beat... but it's pretty time-sensitive; there were only 500 to begin with, and 150 are already snapped up. ecost.com is offering the Limited Edition version of Halo 2 for $42.99 - awesome price! Thanks to bentllama, who took time out of his busy pancake-filled schedule to shoot this news along. (Louis Wu 02:29:21 UTC)

Towel Shortage, Ketchup-Flavored Pringles, and Trisquids
The Bungie Weekly Update this week can be found at the forums on the Major League Gaming website - there's lots of good stuff, but what killed me was that Sketchfactor was in New York this week, and didn't call. I would have bought him pancakes! (There's boatloads of more exciting stuff - go read.) Heads-up, surprisingly, came from Frankie. (Usually a fan beats him to the punch.) (Louis Wu 01:34:16 UTC)

Silent Cartographer... in a mini.
Stephen Cakebread, a programmer on the Project Gotham 2 team at Bizarre Creations, dropped a note in our forum about 'a mostly complete copy of the silent cartographer exported as a circuit which can be loaded in the gotham 2 engine'... a tribute to the level as a driving challenge! (Before anyone gets their hopes up, it's unlikely that he meant this construct would ever get released... though I think it would be really, really cool.) (Louis Wu 20:52:20 UTC)

Bill Murray's coming by later to sing.
What's a birthday without presents? Some HBO regulars put together a small collection of presents for Stuntmutt to celebrate the One Year Anniversary of One One Se7en.

Of course, there are plenty of others that feel like this might be the perfect time to hang up the pencil... but hey, never listen to the naysayers. They'll just say nay. (Louis Wu 18:12:10 UTC)

Baking cakes for others to eat
3Suns pointed out an article at Gamespy that suggests that Halo might be responsible for opening the door in Japan to First Person Shooters (a genre that has traditionally done poorly there). Give it a read! (Louis Wu 10:53:39 UTC)
