I'm not crying, because I don't want to.
Some of you may have noticed the little cake showing up next to yesterday's date at the top of the page - it marked the 9th anniversary of the inception of this site. It was blam.bungie.org back then, and in fact just a single, blurry picture stolen from Marathon... but it grew into the site you're reading now. And I'm still amazed by that. Thanks for the 3288 days of Halo goodness, everyone! (So no, SinisterSamurai, the cake was not a lie.) (Louis Wu 12:46:05 UTC)

Pancakes are Forever
bentllama, half of the Cananimators, stopped by our forum this afternoon to let folks know that he's left Bungie (where he's going, we don't know yet, but he says info is coming soon). John 'Anim8rJB' Butkus left last month for Blizzard, so the entire Cananimator team is gone! Good thing Bungie's not building Halo 4... it wouldn't be the same without the 'llama and JB. We'll miss you guys! (Go say goodbye, everyone!) (Louis Wu 20:57:57 UTC)

This cake ain't a lie.
Dan the Stick thought there wasn't enough cake on our front page, so he sent along a link to DigitalPh33r's blog - with pictures of a home-made Master Chief cake his girlfriend and her mother made for him. A lot of Halo cakes are just decals applied to the top layer of frosting - this one has a design that's actually squirted on there. Pure awesome. (Louis Wu 19:40:47 UTC)

Now THAT'S Devotion
James Center got married last weekend... and he and his new wife are such Halo fans that the wedding cake was Halo-themed! Check it out. (Louis Wu 11:55:40 UTC)

The cake is not a lie
Jenny Wright created this cake for her husband's 26th birthday - it was her first try, but she hopes they'll get better as time goes on. Tasty! (Louis Wu 18:02:16 UTC)

Ew. Just Burn the Hat.
Elnea's posted Episode 117 (!!!) of her Halo Action Figure Theater - things are looking grim for Admiral Norris! However, the fact that she actually modeled a UNSCDF badge for his hat makes everything better. That... or the cake. (Louis Wu 14:41:27 UTC)

Halo 3 Still Selling Like Hotcakes
VVM noticed a post at MajorNelson.com that updates us all on some sales stats. You might remember that the worldwide numbers at the start of December were a bit below 6 million copies of Halo 3 sold - according to MN, worldwide numbers are now at 8.1 million copies, suggesting that 2.3 million copies were sold in December. (Sounds like a lot of people got Halo 3 for Christmas.) Additionally, a worldwide sales total of 17.7 million Xbox 360s was announced - meaning that across the globe, the attach rate of Halo 3 is an absurd 46%. (That's not quite the 52% figure for the US alone, but still ridiculously high - almost one in two Xbox 360 buyers have also picked up a copy of Halo 3.) (Louis Wu 13:47:25 UTC)

Cake or Death?
Running Gun Studio has released Spriggs Episode 4 - it swings from manic to surreal to just plain daffy. Just over 10 and a half minutes of... weirdness. And high explosives. Go watch! (Louis Wu 20:27:57 UTC)

Getting Sent Off, Halo Style
Mariachi is getting married this week - and his friends threw him a Halo-themed bachelor party for him. No hot chicks in cakes... but custom medals, and appropriate lessons. Nice! Thanks, JeSteR 343. (Louis Wu 16:15:49 UTC)

Happy Birtday!
Chris Marshall pointed out a Bungie.net thread with pictures of a cake bought by a loving wife for her husband - the person who did the icing doesn't know how to spell 'Birthday', but other than that, it's great! (He also got to put his Legendary helmet on top of the tree.) (Louis Wu 14:07:20 UTC)

Master Chief Cake
Kotaku has a pic of a Master Chief cake made by a reader for her husband (well, commissioned, I guess). Rice Crispy Treats for brains! Mmmmm... thanks, Ross Mills. (Louis Wu 17:11:43 UTC)

Cake, delicious cake
The Bungie Weekly Update is live - it focuses on the new Heatmaps you can see in your Bungie.net profile, but also has dollops of info about upcoming downloadable content, the Halo 3 soundtrack, and a very cool coincidence; almost 3 years to the day from its release, Halo 2 will see its 777,777,777th game played on Xbox Live. You guys should all get on Halo 2 tonight and make it happen on its birthday, rather than one day later... As always, if you have any trouble with Bungie.net, you can access the Weekly Update in our Weekly Update Archive. (Louis Wu 02:54:23 UTC)

Chocolate frosting + pound cake = win.
I spent yesterday evening at the birthday party of Miguel "Ding" Chavez's oldest - and yes, it was a Halo party. We discovered that old and wily often beats young and fast... remember that. (Louis Wu 13:35:40 UTC)

Love is a many-splendored thing.
Dan Rhine and his fiancee were married on October 6. They had a pretty cake. Why do you care? Because they're both avid Halo players, and Halo was there. He and his friends spent the morning trying to collect the IWHBYD skull. "Rock Anthem to Save the World" was played during the reception. And the groom's cake had a Halo cake topper. Fate had them meet as foes on Xbox Live, but these rings have made them brothers. (Well... spouses, anyway.) (Louis Wu 14:09:45 UTC)

Mister Chief Cake!
ElephantDropBomb put up a pic of his brother's birthday cake - Frankie would be proud. Update: Vincabo was inspired to post pics of his own Mister Chief cake, made by his wife last year. Also a Halo 3 cake. What a wife! (Louis Wu 14:32:35 UTC)

A cool cake, a week late
Sometimes I just hate how busy things get. A bit over a week ago, Tex turned 19... and had a cool Halo party. A day or two later, she showed me the cake, which totally rocked... and which I promptly forgot to post. So I'm posting it now. Sorry, Tex. (Louis Wu 17:31:16 UTC)

Mister Warhol
Jared Rea pointed out some Warhol-like Halo art, done by the same person who created a set of Mister Chief cupcakes a few months ago. If you want to make your own, she's even supplied the stencil. Coolness! (Louis Wu 13:08:29 UTC)

Launch Writeups
Wow. So I was going through mail that came to email addresses other than halo@bungie.org, thinking that I'd make a summary of all the news that hadn't gotten posted in the last couple of days before I STARTED posting - but the list is so enormous that I'll never get through it unless I just start. So - I'll do my best to combine like items, but beware the news flood! First up, some release night shenanigans around the country (and the world):

I think we should probably call it a day after those; I'm sure there are HUNDREDS of writeups of local launch things (there were, after all, over 10,000 stores in the US, 1,000 stores in the UK, and uncounted numbers in other countries all open for this event), but we'll say this is representative. (Louis Wu 20:00:23 UTC)

Get Some Head
bs angel wrote this morning to tell us about her Halo 3 Countdown activity today, which was baking a Halo 3 themed dessert. She made a pretty cool cake in the shape of a pink Mjolnir helmet. Go check it out and leave your compliments to the chef at Hawty McBloggy. (KP 18:17:52 UTC)

Tafiti - Halo-themed search
Microsoft has kicked off a Halo-themed version of Tafiti - go check it out. Tafiti is a search front end from Microsoft; it uses Silverlight (Microsoft's Flash-like layer) and Live Search to bring you lots of Halo search goodness. It requires Silverlight, which is available (for free) for both Macs and PCs, and it currently doesn't work on Safari 3 (though it does, for some reason, work fine with Safari 2) - but other than that, it should be a piece of cake to use. HBO's content, for the most part, isn't indexed yet (there was a mixup on the URLs they trawled, I think), but there's plenty of other Halo content out there on the web - and this is one pretty way to find it! Thanks, Jamey. (Louis Wu 12:08:01 UTC)

An Edible Masterpiece.
This is simply astounding. Will sent us a link to a video he created to show off a Halo cake he made for a friend. It's... amazing. You have to watch it. It's available at break.com, in Flash format, or you can download it from us in WMP9 format (20.2 mb) or QuickTime format (21.8 mb). This is absolutely the most impressive Halo cake I've ever seen. Mashed Jaffa Cakes
At Bungie.net, you'll find a really short Bungie Weekly Update - Frankie is totally insane, and is lucky not to be dead right now, and he also broke all sorts of speeding limits in the last 24 hours, but we love him anyway. Go read about some general, but heartening, plans for the Halo online community in the coming months. (As always, you can read it in our Weekly Update Archive, as well.) (Louis Wu 23:31:40 UTC)

Happy Birthday, Halo 2!
Today is the second anniversary of the release of Halo 2 - and fans want to say 'Happy Birthday!' Black Guard collected shots from around the web of Halo cakes, and Mattbluhalofan actually created a special pic just for today (155k). Play some Halo 2 today to celebrate! (Louis Wu 16:12:02 UTC)
