Games as Lit 08 - Second Halo Podcast Travis Knight let us know that the second episode of their Halo-centered podcast is live - this podcast focuses on The Cole Protocol, Contact Harvest, and Ghosts of Onyx. They won't be returning to the Halo books until the after the next Greg Bear book comes out - when they do return they plan to do an in-depth comparison of the Forerunner trilogy, Niven's Ringworld and Banks' Culture. Keagan Gillepsie's Reach For A Dream Wish Keagan Gillepsie, who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, informed Reach For A Dream that he was a tremendous Halo fan even though he hadn't played the games. His wish was to have a party with Master Chief for his 10th Birthday. As always, Master Chief came through and spent the day with Keagan. The Chief also presented Keagan with some UNSC hardware, including an Xbox 360, Halo games and a ton of Halo gear courtesy of Xbox and Reach For A Dream. Awesome! Thanks, TheOddOne.

Feet First Into Hell Using Kerbal Space Program tsarcorp used Kerbal Space Program (an alpha-stage sandbox-style space flight simulator game) to recreate some ODST drop pods. Not only does it look awesome, but all four of the passengers survived - proof of concept, let take this to NASA! Halo 4 on Amazon Gold Box It looks like Halo 4, or something related, is the next lightning deal on the Amazon Gold Box. The offer begins at 2PM PT, 5PM ET or 2200 UTC if you're into that kind of thing. It's unclear exactly what the offer will be and I'm also unclear on regional availability. Spartan Ops Episode 6 - Now Playable Today kicks off the second half of Spartan Ops Season 1 - Episode 6 is live now on Xbox LIVE. Before you can play, you'll need to download a 2.2GB support file that covers episodes 6-10 - keep this in mind if you plan to play with friends (or play at a specific time). Truth and Recon, Easy, 6:47 slYnki stopped by with word of a new segmented speedrun on Truth and Reconciliation. It's under 7 minutes! (This shaves two full minutes off the old record... amazing.) The end of 'Belly of the Beast' was the most impressive shortcut I saw, but there were a number of bits that made me shake my head. Halo 4 Hack Job Moa ran into a hacker during a game of Halo 4 - the unsavory individual was able to take out tanks, call in multiple ordnance drops and kill players with a single shot all by simply using the Carbine. Hey, at least the Carbine is useful now ;).

A Spartan Gets His Armor Earlier this month, Reddit user fiscal_ reached out to the Halo community about getting in contact with the Bungie Foundation. He was hoping to get some smiles out of his son, who had just undergone a liver transplant. With a ton of neat stuff in tow, Bungie decided to pay the Spartan-in-training a visit (pictures included), and to fit our Spartan for his armor. Great to see him smiling. Maptastrophe - the tributes continue In 2006, Insidi0us gave us Maptacular - an incredible romp through the original Halo multiplayer maps, with a lot of care on clean transitions and consistent scoring/weapons. A couple of years later, BigV1027 paid tribute with Maptrocity, a similar jaunt through Halo 3 maps. (Not quite as clean, but still a lot of fun.) Today, DefendTheHouse (the folks behind the spectacular Halo Mythbusters videos) released Maptastrophe, their vision of this concept realized in Halo 4. (Thanks, Nando13.) I love the idea. You Mod? TehBanStick was able to access hidden Halo 4 map files (by modding) and discovered some cool stuff (Monochron warned about spoilers, beware). It seems that the Reach DMR model is still part of the code, but what I find most interesting are the never before seen weapons, particularly the 'Bishop Beam'. Interactive Episodic Halo Storytelling TellTale Games, the company behind The Walking Dead episodic game (the final episode of Season 1 was released in November, and was available on Xbox LIVE in its entirety for $10 during the week leading up to New Years Day), has said it would be interested in fleshing out the Halo universe (among other places). Oh! You Pretty Thing FyreWulff uploaded hundreds of native 720p screen caps of Halo 4's campaign cinematics and levels. It is a nice reminder of how fantastic the art, cinematography and lighting is in Halo 4. Halo 4 Light Rifle Re-Imagined Prinz Eugn shared his re-imagining of the Halo 4 Light Rifle. He also provided a legitimate gameplay reason as to why he re-designed the weapon - the Light Rifle and the Binary Rifle are sometimes hard to tell apart. I have to agree with that. I go rampant on that junk I stumbled across a YouTube account called 'fatfinger' - has some pretty funny game-related animation. Two of their videos are Halo-specific: Video Game Therapist was released last November, and has Chief and Cortana working out some... issues, while GameStain - Halo 4 (out this week) shows us what Halo 4 brings to the table. Halo-Point Bullets
Kotaku reports how earlier this week, 'Dual Survival' on the Discovery Channel, featured an ammunition brand called 'Halo-Point' manufactured by Liberty Ammunition. If the obvious play on wording wasn't enough, the ammunition box even used Halo's signature font. As it turns out, Microsoft wasn't too happy about the situation and it seems that Liberty Ammunitions went ahead and re-branded their ammunition. Be sure to check out the article for more details. Breaking Halo 4: Tactical Jetpack Out of Adrift Nak3d Eli has kicked off a new video series - he calls it 'Breaking Halo 4'. It's all about finding glitches in Matchmaking maps... and the first episode looks at an invisible walkway (well, probably more than one) on Adrift.
