RvB at Lincoln Center Video Festival

July 23, 2003

What a long way they've come. The RedvsBlue crew has drawn an enormous amount of attention. Their Blood Gulch Chronicles are superb examples of well crafted videos using the Halo engine as well as hilarious script writing. It's only fitting that they were invited to the first annual Film Society at Lincoln Center Video Festival.

Being a native New Yorker, I obviously attended! What a pleasure to see the folks running the show talk about how cool the Halo engine is and how it's pushing the envelope in this new form of artistic expression, machinima.

I got to see alot of early examples of machinima, as well as some very current cutting edge stuff. And to see the classic Warthog Jump by Randy Glass as well as Episode 1 of the BGC interspersed there was a trip! And just like they did for us fans at E3, they made a special video just for the festival. Lucky for you I had enough space on my camera to record a good portion of it. They plan on releasing it on their site soon, but you can watch most of it here first! The surprise ending is not in my capture, so you definitely have to get their official version when it's released in the next few days.

After the festival, the RvB crew was very gracious to their fans and offered to go have some pizza with them. I think I was the only guy in the crowd that actually knew the area, so I lead the way to the best pizza within walking distance, Famous Famiglia at Times Square. Burnie bought 3 pies and we all wolfed it down in no time flat. Meanwhile, Jason and Burnie talked to everyone like they were buddies. Awfully nice of them.

There was an actual after-festival party at the remotelounge, but it was getting late for me, so I had to bow out. The remotelounge has webcams all over the place that folks can control and take self-portraits of to be posted on the web. If you're lucky, the guys may be in some shots of that night's online gallery.

All in all, I had a great time, and not only did I get to see more Halo inspired goodness on the big screen, but I also learned alot about machinima. There's the Official 2003 Machinima Festival which is also taking place here in NYC October 25, which I'm definitely going to attend. Who knows, maybe the RvB crew will be there as well?

Look at that! RvB and Halo makes it into a bonafide *festival* It looks a little empty, but believe me, by the time the show got started, the theater was PACKED. One of the funnier segments, Cory Arcangel's powerpoint presentation on how to hack a Nintendo cartridge.

Here is Cory Arcangel, the Nintendo hacking guy. I just put him here because I think he's a trip. There was a Q&A session at the end, Burnie answered quite a few questions. Spreading the love. (Jason is at the far left, poking his head over the guy with the red shirt)

Burnie and Jason. By now you should get the joke with Burnie's shirt. At the end, Burnie and Jason were met by many folks that wanted to express how much they liked RvB. Burnie surrounded by adoring fans.

Look at that! A NY roach. Burnie sez "A Texas roach would eat a NY roach for lunch." RvB treats a bunch of fans to some free pizza. Posing for shots.

More group shots Jason signed a condom. Please put that up on Ebay. Folks wanted anything signed, even their ticket stubs.

Burnie signs the program notes. I'm the only cool cat that is actually wearing a genuine RvB shirt! I ROXOR! Their exclusive new video! Not complete, but that's ok, it saves the surprise at the end. Go to their site for the whole thing!
