SpecOps Major Ryau 'Cinotee
__________________________________________________________________________________
Ryau headed out of the room that his new commanding officer just 'interrogated' him and headed towards the personnel lift down the hall. A small set of instructions appeared beside the access port for first time users. It was basically a system of gravity conveyers and Grav-lifts that ran along the ships spine. Ryau punched in his destination on the console and then was instructed to place his palm on the scanner for an identity check. There was a pinch as the machine extracted a bit of blood, then cross referenced it composition to the one that Naki had submitted to the system and the door to the lift opened. He stepped inside and was whisked away towards the stern. However he started to slow and stopped behind a group of Kig 'Yar Snipers waiting for a group of Huragok that were attempting to remove an Unggoy that had fallen into one of the service shafts from the deck above.
Ryau sighed and waited for the path to clear. He eventually ended up pulling out the book he had purchased at the Spaceport on the history of the Sangheili state he was going to be living in. By the time the path was cleared Ryau was going to be late. The conveyer dropped him off in a hall lined with doors leading to other squad rooms. He put the old fashioned book away and wandered down the hall until he found the room labeled G18 in the Sangheili language. However the door was locked, the symbol glowed red. Nervously Ryau knocked on the door, a moment later is flashed white and opened. He stepped inside and saw D`rok and another Sangheili watching something that appeared to be humorous on a holo-pad. Another Sangheili sat on a ledge, relaxing.
"D`rok?" Ryau said, announcing his arrival.
"Cinotee," D`rok acknowledged.
"You left your data pad in the other room." Ryau removed it from his other pocket.
D`rok turned to look at Ryau and walked over. "Interesting...How did I forget such a thing as this?" Ryau handed it over and D`rok took it back and put it in his own pocket.
"I hope I have arrived on time." Ryau said.
"You were slower than I expected." He said.
"There was traffic along the route I took, sorry. What am I here for?" Ryau asked.
"You are here to meet us Cinotee," D`rok said.
"Should we get started then?" Ryau moved out of the doorway and allowed to the door to close behind him.
"That is your decision."
"Very well.... let's begin." Ryau was a bit confused on how or why it was his decision to begin something that he was told to attend for that reason.
D`rok motioned toward the SpecOps Major that had been next to him at the holo-pad. "This is K`an 'Retmar'ee. He is the Marksman and my second in command." Ryau nodded in greeting to K`an. Then D`rok motioned toward the other on the ledge. "And that is Sig 'Valhamee, he is third in command."
"Alright, and is that everyone?" Ryau asked.
"Yes, and you are the FNG." D`rok said, saying FNG in English.
"What is a FNG?" Ryau was confused, it was familiar but he couldn't place it.
"Well it is a Human term. Do you understand what they call English?" D`rok asked.
"Yes I do..." Ryau now understood what it meant.
"You are essentially, as the Humans would say, the Fucking New Guy."
Ryau sighed. "Well then...alright. Is that all?"
"No, is there a rush for something?" D`rok asked.
"It seems like there is something else that everyone would like to be doing at the moment." Ryau shrugged.
"Well the ship has just entered space, what else is there to do?"
"Perhaps some target practice?" Ryau had passed an armory on this floor and heard some Needle Rifle fire.
The SpecOps Major, K`an, looked at Ryau like he was crazy. "Not this early Major."
"Early? It is evening right now." Ryau said.
"The ship hasn't even entered slip-space yet."
"Does that even have anything to do with recreational shooting?" Ryau asked them all. If he remembered correctly, slip-space transitions on Covenant ships were very smooth.
"No but everything is in preparation for the jump right now."
"Oh, right then." Ryau sighed, these Sangheili were too set in their old ways. D`rok took a seat and Ryau did too. A moment later the ship gave a slight shake and it jumped into slip-space smoothly.
"Can we now make use of the firing range?"
"What is with you and the firing range?" K`an asked.
"Practice." Was all Ryau said.
"It will be nearly half a month before we reach our destination." He said.
"And it is good to keep up to date. Other than my practice on Sanghelios, I haven't been in combat for months." That was only partly true but it fit with what Naki and Zeik had forged for him.
"Tomorrow, youth," D`rok told him.
"Fine." Ryau gave up and D`rok left with K`an, leaving Ryau with Sig.
There was a period of awkward silence before Sig broke it. "Cinotee? Is that your first name?"
"No, it is Ryau." He said.
"Hmm," Sig hopped off his ledge. "And what is it that you do?"
"Could you please rephrase the question?" Ryau asked.
"Tell me about you."
"Well I was born in Zelso, never knew my family thought." Ryau began recall the story Naki had prepared for him.
"Oh you're a war baby?" Sig asked.
"I was born before the war the war began so no."
"Oh... So a militaristic family.. I see." Sig jumped to the next conclusion.
"No not that type of not knowing family, more like abandoned on the streets. Thought once I came of age, I joined the local academy and ended up here Cycles later."
"Hmm, I am Sig 'Valhamee" He said.
"Pleasure to meet you, Sig."
"I am Forty-two." He smiled.
Ryau chuckled and asked him a question. "How long have you been here?"
"Since the Human year 2526."
"That's a long time."
"Yes it is, I've been D`rok's third arm for many cycles."
"I see, well I need to go. I am needed elsewhere. I'll see you later Sig." Ryau nodded to Sig and left the room after Sig also said goodbye. He hopped on the Gravity conveyer after punching in the Special Operations Cabin block as his destination. The ride over was uneventful as he floated half a meter above the plasma conduits and other wires that also ran parallel to the spine of the ship. The conveyer stopped him at a Grav-lift tube and it took him up a few decks to the level that Naki was on. He plopped down onto the deck and followed the directions on his data-pad to the room he and Naki had been assigned. He came to the door and keyed it open. "Naki?" Ryau called.
"Over here." She popped her head out from behind a holographic room divider. "Just setting up your bed. They were out of standard cots so they brought in a regular bed."
"Oh great, that's good." Ryau walked over and sat on the bed. "Comfortable."
"Yeah, the bed makers on Joyous Exultation are known for making some of the best beds in the Covenant." Naki threw a pillow of a cart at Ryau, who caught it with out looking.
"Just because I lost my augmentations, doesn't mean I lost my training." Ryau launched the pillow back at Naki, the force behind the soft container of fluff knocked her back.
"I should remember that next time." Naki pulled herself back up and tossed the pillow onto the bed next to him.
"So you wanted to see me here?" Ryau asked.
"Yes, I need to check on the scar from the medical operation a month ago. Please remove your chest plate and upper body suit." Naki pulled a scanner out of a bag and Ryau removed those pieces of armor. The lighting in this room was actually better than the light in Naki's house he had been living in for the last few weeks, so he actually got a good look in the mirror of the scars that he had received from the incident with the Mgalekgolo when he was captured. Almost all of his left side and the upper half of his arm was fresh scar tissue, miscellaneous scars and scratches were all over his chest from his armor that was blown apart.
"Wow, I really took a beating from that Mgalekgolo." Ryau twisted around to get a look at his back.
"Yes you did, though we did a lot to patch you back up." Naki ran the scanner over the edge of the major scar and checked to see if it was properly healing. "Usually with an injury like this would keep you out of combat for at least a cycle, but we tested a new medical device on it and it seems to be healing faster and stronger than it would have with traditional methods."
"Well thank you for that." Ryau waited for her to finish and changed into his SpecOps uniform.
Naki yawned. "Yeah, you're our guinea pig. Its getting late, lets get some dinner and head to bed."
"Alright." Ryau caught the contagious yawn. "I'll follow you." Naki headed out the door and Ryau followed her through the gravity conveyer to the dining hall.

Ryau awoke to a loud rapping on the door. He sat up from his bed and groaned, he had been up late reading more of the history book. He shuffled over to the door and keyed it open. D`rok stood there ready to go.
"What is it, sir?" Ryau asked in a low, groggy voice.
"It is time to don your armor and retrieve your arms from the arsenal, do this hastily please." D'rok told him.
"Very well
" Ryau sighed. He headed back behind the room divider and suited up in his armor systems. He walked back out and looked to Naki. "Time to get up Naki."
"By the Gods, leave her be!" D`rok's sudden outburst made Ryau jump. "You can collect her things for her. Be a gentleman for once, Ryau." D'rok the roll of his eyes.
"I was just waking her
" Ryau muttered as he passed D'rok and headed for the armory.
"She was already awake, now hurry!" D'rok called down the hall after Ryau. Ryau hurried down the hall and slid into the the armory. There were two crates sitting on the counter behind the Armories grate, labeled for him and Naki.
"Excuse me, Weapons Master I am here to pick up the weapons for Ryau Cinotee and Naki Cimutee." Ryau said.
The Weapons Master pulled the files up on the holographic screen. "Very well Major, a Needle Rifle and Plasma Rifle for you and a Plasma pistol and Needler for Miss Cimutee." The Weapons Master picked up the sack of crates and slid them over to Ryau.
"Thank you." Ryau took the crates back to the the Cabin and set them on the desk in the room. Naki came out from behind the room divider wearing an orange set of Ranger armor.
"They were upgrading my armor so what they gave me was this for the time being." She pulled the helmet off and set it under her arm. "You get the weapons?"
"Yes, he had them all ready when I got there." Ryau opened Naki's box and handed her the Plasma pistol and Needler. She placed them on her thighs.
"Gods, this armor is much heavier than the harness I'm used to wearing." Naki groaned
"Suck it up Naki," Ryau chuckled. "You'll do fine."
"Yes I know." Naki giggled. Ryau attached his weapons to their hard points and they left for the nearest hangar. They headed though the gravity conveyer and down to hangar level. "How are you liking this transportation system?"
"Oh it's quick and efficient. Though the pinch from the blood test is getting kind of annoying." Ryau said. They were deposited on the lower deck of the hangar and Ryau spotted D`rok and the others standing around a stack of supply crates. Ryau walked over and nodded to the leader "D`rok." he said with the nod.
SpecOps Major K`an stepped angrily in front of Ryau causing him to jump a bit. "I spoke to you, Major!"
"I'm sorry sir, I did not hear you." Honestly Ryau did not hear what K`an had said.
"I think you had, but instead chose to ignore me" K'an accused with a growl
He gave a mental groan realizing that this one was going to be an asshole and they wouldn't preform well together. "I heard nothing from you sir, I have just arrived too" Ryau said.
"My voice is never hard to hear!" K'an spoke loudly, he seemed to be offended. "You were right next to Sig and he heard it!"
"What did you say? Ryau asked timidly.
"I said hello"
"Hello sir, then." Ryau said quickly just to get it over with. "Wow...all that bullshit from not saying hello? This guy has problems." Ryau thought to himself.
K'an gave him a dark stare "Watch yourself" he told Ryau as he took a step back towards his resting lean spot was.
"Ryau" D'rok cut in.
"Yes sir?" Ryau asked, thankful for someone else to talk to.
"This is your first campaign?" D`rok asked.
"No, it's not" Luckily Naki had used some of the campaigns that Ryau had done when he was a Spartan.
"Where else have you been placed?"
"I was involved in the battle over what the humans called Arcadia and Bliss." Ryau said rather confidently.
"Good, Have you ever dropped?"
"Orbital? Yes, but it has been a long while, I was on a recruitment tour for cycles before being assigned to Science Major Cimutee's detail" Ryau said.
"Why are you assigned to her?"
"To provide support and protection, and I knew her from training" Ryau made up that last part to make it seem more likely that he and Naki were close.
"Hmm
" D'rok paused. "As of now we are going to be with the second invasion force, it leaves right after the first. Our target is the populous human city named New Alexandria. I will be informed more of this at the pre-invasion officers briefing and I will fill you all in as I learn objectives myself. Any questions?" D'rok stopped and waited for any responses. Ryau wanted to ask what planet but he feared he knew the truth. "I want you all on your phantoms in forty-five units."
Ryau watched D`rok walk off towards the meeting, K`an turned over at Sig, Ryau and Naki and shouted orders. "Alright young and lively; hop aboard!" Ryau and Sig headed for the lifts. "And miss
" K`an chuckled at Naki as she followed behind Ryau.
Ryau was pulled up into the Phantom by its gravity lift and strapped in to the brace that would keep him steady while the Phantom would descend into the planet's atmosphere. Naki hooked in across from Ryau and sealed up her helmet. As the Phantom began to lift off Ryau looked around for D`rok. Umm, are we waiting for D'rok?" Ryau asked.
"He is taking another phantom... I get the joy of leading you" K'an sighed.
Ryau paused for a moment. [I]"Well Fuck, the guy that seems to dislike me is in charge of me for now." He looked back to K`an. "Very well. If I may ask, what do they call the planet we are invading." It was time to make sure.
"They call it Reach..." K'an answered
"R-reach?" Ryau's lower mandibles went dry, this was Reach, the place where he called home for twenty years after he ended up here. The planet with the largest UNSC Military complex. He remembered how it ended, the planet would fall. But he never expected to be the one invading.
"Yes, but why the stutter?" K`an asked.
"No reason" Ryau faked it, even as a former Spartan there were things he was afraid of.
"I doubt that for some reason" K`an said.
"Do not doubt, please" Ryau said. He caught a look from Naki that said she knew what he was thinking.
"I will if I feel necessary"
"There is no reason to be worried, there is no problem, I have just heard a lot of this place they call Reach" Ryau made a decision. He was here to live and not become a number in the massive death toll that this war already had."Fuck it. I found Michelle, or Naki now. I need to live, she needs to live."Ryau thought to himself.
"Very well... don't show your inner emotions; I warn you, youth." K'an advised him. "The heightened figures don't like it."
"I won't" Ryau said coldly
"Good" K'an looked out the window.
Ryau looked at the floor as the Phantom began to shake as it began to descend into the atmosphere. A few other Phantoms flew in close formation beside the one Ryau was in. D`rok came of the comm network and began to inform them of the plans. "Listen, Provocation; you are heading towards the human city of Alexandria, what they call it. I will be landing right behind you and will further brei-" with a sudden shake, the comm line went dead.
Ryau looked up watched K`an undo his harness and checked on some of the worried warriors. He went over to the window to see their progress and turned back. "Provocation! We are close to the destination. When we touch ground where we are needed, I will be your lead until Tallaham arrives. Understood?" K`an said.
"Understood" Ryau replied in sync with Sig.
Ryau glanced at Naki who barely replied to K`an's orders. Her eyes were locked though the visor of her helmet at something outside the window. Something bad had happened, Ryau could see it in her eyes and that caused him to worry.
As the Phantom settled to the ground and the other Warriors started to disperse, UNSC Army Troopers were already on the platforms above them. Gunfire hailed from above, cutting through the bodies of the Unggoy and bouncing off the shields of the Kig 'Yar and Sangheili. Ryau hopped down onto the ground bellow and ran for the cover of a World Cuisine Kiosk. Naki ran over behind him and leaned into the door jam. Ryau raised his Needle rifle and took a look around. "Welcome to Reach Ryau. Welcome home."
