Two weeks later
Age of Reclamation [July 29 2552]
Varo, State of Zelso, Sanghelios
SpecOps Minor Ryau 'Cinotee

Ryau sat on a bench in front of the space port and reviewed the Covenant history on his data pad. He couldn't get in the spaceport at the moments because his promotion was still processing. Naki was inside getting the shuttle loaded with the equipment that she may need. Although the history is very interesting. Ryau glanced up and spied a SpecOps Officer walking across the courtyard. He went back to reading and tapped his hoof nervously, the shuttle was scheduled to leave in twenty minutes and he still couldn't get into the spaceport.

Ryau heard someone running and he looked up to see a young girl running towards the Officer. The girl hugged the Officers leg and hit behind him, she was clearly scared. Ryau glanced to where the girl had come from and saw what he thought was the girls parents running towards her.

"Careless woman, I told you to hold her!" The male barked loudly at the female as they stopped just in front of the Officer. The male was wearing a set of Major armor. Ryau turned off his data-pad and watched the incident.

"What happens to be the problem, sir?" The Officer asked, he sounded concerned.

"Not that it is your quarrel, but my mate is too imprudent to control the child!" The Major said harshly.

"Nihn, please..." The female begged, she turned her head to the ground and seemed uncertain what to do.

"S'hean i said silence!" The Major shouted. He turned to her suddenly and raised his fist into the air.

Ryau watched as the Officer stopped the Major from hitting his wife by grabbing his wrist. Everything became quiet, the tension was thick. Ryau stood up from his seat on the bench and prepared to assist the Officer if it came to that. The small group of other Sangheili that seemed to appear out of nowhere watched the confrontation.

The Major turned his head back and looked at the Officer, he was now enraged further. "You dare stop my actions towards me wife!?" The nearly deranged Major screamed.

"I will not allow you to beat this woman shamefully in public. So yes, I do interfere." The officer gave the Major a cold stare.

"Let go!" the Major screamed. Ryau stepped closer to the pair. He instinctively placed his hand on his hip for his weapon but he didn't have one there. So it rested on his data-pad case.

"There are two options for you. You can stop this childish nonsense or, and judging by your current actions you wish too, we can contest." The Officer warned the Major. The Male gave a tug of his arms which just caused the Officer to become more hostile. The Officer raised his voice. "Do not look at me in that manner unless you wish to fight, and you'll lose, I guarantee it!"

Ryau moved over to the Major's wife. "Ma'am please step back, with your daughter for your own safety."

"Uh, very well." The female said, clearly nervous. Ryau took her and her daughter a few meters away from the potential fight and stayed back. One of the other watching Warriors ran off to the Security officers at the Spaceport entrance to alert them of the fight.

Moments after Ryau had taken the wife back, the Major tore from the Officer's grip. The Major took a step back and reached for his Plasma Rifle, however before he could fully draw, the Officer had already drawn his Energy sword. "A drawn weapon demands blood! It is unlawful and illegal to take out a weapon in public" The Major yelled.

"You drew first!" The Officer shouted back.

"You restricted my wrist"

"You were about to commit an unlawful assault upon a woman!"

"What does it matter!?" the Major shouted back.

"It matters in the courts of Zelso; clearly you are not from here, sir; now stand down!!" The Officer stated firmly with a growl.

Before any blood was spilled the Spaceport's security officers arrived on scene. The Major was restrained with energy cuffs, much like the ones that the Arbiter will be restrained with in the coming months. The Security Officers released the SpecOps Officer and Ryau watched him go to the Major's wife and daughter. The Officer knelt down to the little girl and gave her a small necklace from the pocket on his hip. From Ryau's vantage point it appeared to be the Forerunner symbol of Hope.

Ryau left the small crown and headed to the door of the Spaceport. "I need to catch my transport, it leaves very soon." He told the Security officers.

"No the Spaceport is still closed for the March and our records do not show your Major status." The Security Officer said.

"He is with me." The SpecOps Officer said, coming up behind Ryau.

"Very well Officer." The Security Officer keyed open the gate.

Ryau turned around and walked backwards up the ramp. "Thank you Officer," He said.

"Ryau Cinotee... That is your name correct?"The Officer asked.

"Yes Officer, how did you know?" Ryau turned back and walked normally beside the Officer.

"I am the one recruiting you" The Officer Ryau now realized was D`rok smiled at him.

"Ah, you are D`rok. It is good to meet you," Ryau said,

D`rok nodded and Ryau walked over to a kiosk and purchased a book to read on the history of the State of Zelso while he didn't have access to the Data-net. He caught up to D`rok and he let Ryau onto the Phantom first. Ryau stood near the front because the back of the Phantom was packed with supplies. He caught a glimpse of the Pilot, Ryau thought that his emblem on the Pilot's back was interesting, it looked like a mandibled dragon blowing fire. The Phantom lifted off and Naki came out from behind the stacks of supplies.

"There you are Ryau, I see you've met D'rok" She said

"Yes, I was afraid I wouldn't make it" Ryau admitted to her

"How are you doing D'rok?" She asked him, turning her head to him

"I'm fine...what are you doing here?" D'rok asked her

"I'm assigned to Ryau" Naki said.

"For what?" D'rok asked.

"He's testing out our new armor systems"

"But don't you work in biology?" D`rok seemed confused.

"No, I study Forerunner Sciences" she corrected him, Ryau saw D`rok roll his eyes.

"Gods, are you going to just follow him around and carry things for him too?"

"I can fight"

"Yeah" He laughed "but why are you not with the jumpers? You clearly 'shoot better while falling' Naki"

"Oh you saw that..."Naki looked down and blushed.

"Nope, i just heard from a little 'bird'" D`rok said.

"That was an accident I'm usually much better" she assured him.

"Whatever you say, scientist" D'rok sighed and looked out the window silently.

Ryau took a seat by Naki and the talked a bit about the new armor for the rest of the flight. The Phantom flew into the hangar of the Leveling Strength and settled on a pad.

"I'll meet you in my cabin later, we'll check on the armor systems" Naki sail.

"Alright see you then." Ryau said. He got off the Phantom and D`rok waved him over.

"Ryau follow me." D`rok said. D`rok took Ryau to a café. Ryau followed closely as D'rok lead him through the café's hallway and into one of the many open lounge rooms. .Ryau entered first but heard D`rok lock the door after he entered. He glanced over at D`rok and he gave Ryau a sharp look.

"Sit down!" D'rok spoke loudly.

"Oh shit what is this about." Ryau thought as he sat quickly.

D'rok tossed his data pad onto the table and caused Ryau to jump a bit.

"What is it, Excellency?" Ryau asked, he was nervous.

"First off, don't call me glorifying names! I will not hear it!" D'rok demanded with a snarl.

"Very well… what shall I call you?" Ryau asked.

"You will address me by my name; D'rok Tallaham"

"The whole thing?"

"If it makes you feel better" D'rok chuckled.

"Very well" Ryau grumbled quietly

"Now..." D'rok sat and stared at Ryau for a few moments. Ryau sensed he was being overly intimidating. "What makes me want you to follow under my order?" D`rok asked as he cracked a smirk.

"Well..." Ryau started. He sat forward in his chair in an attempt to overcome his uneasy feeling."I presume you watched a recording of my pre-promotion skirmish"

"No, that does not answer my question. Now tell me: what makes me want you to follow my orders?"

"You tell me, you wanted me"

"A good answer, but don't be stupid. I know you are smart enough to answer the question."

"Well I'm smart and I'm good in combat"

"And?"

"I'm someone you think you can trust"

"Correction, youth, you assume I trust you; I do not! Your first answer was correct, however" D'rok chuckled, soon to smile again."What was the best mistake you have made in your career?"

Ryau had to think, his worst mistake would have to be that time he almost got vaporized by a Hunter, no Mgalekgolo's fuel rod cannon but he couldn't tell D`rok that, it would raise too many questions. "I got nothing." Ryau answered finally. "Is that all?" D`rok stared coldly at Ryau.

"What do you expect of me" D'rok asked.

"For you to be a good leader"

"Is that by appearance or are you just trying to avoid my questioning?"

"I-I..." Ryau stuttered he was caught.

"By my appearance!" D'rok shouted over the table. "Read the cover of the book!" D'rok continued to stare harshly at Ryau. Ryau could tell he wouldn't let him get off easily.

Ryau looked over D'rok, searching for something to aid him in his answer he was slowly forming in his mind. Then he saw D`rok's eye, and it came to him. "I expect you to be an experienced officer with an amazing sense of situational leadership."Ryau answered quickly, hoping this to be over.

"… Correct answer" D'rok smiled genuinely now. "Welcome to Far Beyond Provocation, kid. We are bunked in the Special Operations room G18. I will see you there in twenty units." D'rok stood and turned out the door. As he began to leave; he stopped quickly and looked back at Ryau. "I recommend you start now; it's a long walk"

After D`rok left Ryau gave a sigh. "Well that was close..." He stood up a grabbed D`rok's data-pad off the table. "Damn, he forgot his data-pad." Ryau headed out of the cafe and checked with a wall console. His SpecOps Major rank had finally gone through and he was authorized to access more of the ship. Including, the personnel lift that ran up and and lateral to the ships spine. He could be at room G18 in less than five minutes.
